Aaron's main characteristic is his loyalty to his friends. He is fun and loving to those he cares about, but when necessary can be a serious and protective mama bear. He isn't the most funny demi-god, and doesn't understand most forms of humor. Thus people don't share jokes around him, as they will have to spent five minutes explaining the joke to him until he gets it. Aaron has many heroic qualities, he dislikes injustice and doesn't tolerate cruelty. He is a natural, charismatic leader, though that doesn't change the fact that he is constantly doubting his decisions. He is very critical of himself, and constantly needs reassurance from others.
Charlie Jennings was an archaeologist who specialized in Ancient Greek Architecture. Ever since he was a child, he was infatuated with Greek history. During an expedition in Crete, Chalie and his team of scientists stumbled across a wall of a maze, which they believed to be a part of Minos' Labyrinth. Around the patch of wall, they discovered several random items, such as vase shards, wooden stools, and carpet fibers.
While his associates all focused on one main area, Charlie's intuition led him farther away from the main dig. With him was only his assistant and various tools. After several weeks, he broke through the ground down into what it seems was a cavern the size of a small room. He had pierced the circling, immediately a deep purple mist flew out of the hole into his face. His shock caused him to lose his balance and fall into the hole. Around the walls of the room were ancient carvings and images that were vaguely familiar.
At the center of the room an alter rose out of the stone ground. On the alter laid a long gleaming Celestial Bronze sword. Charlie approached the weapon. Curiously, he observed the artifact, there was something special about it, but he couldn't pin his finger on what. Picking up the sword, he felt an overwhelming force to travel up his arm. He felt stronger and more powerful. He didn't know what the weapon was, but it was an important artifact. He swung it around not aiming at anything else in the bare area. Then the sword transformed into a ring, which placed itself on his finger. Now more than ever he felt that he couldn't just give it up. He decided not to add it to the haul of artifacts he would bring back from the expedition for their benefactor. Therefore, he kept the weapon hidden so he could study it further.
After continuing to search through the area, the expedition eventually headed back to the United States to present what they had found during their venture. Their benefactor, a middleaged woman, inspected each item that was brought back, excluding the new ring Charlie wore on his finger. Some items she selected for her collection, but others she suggested they donate to the remaining items to whatever museum they wished. When he and his associates when to leave, their benefactor called Charlie back.
- "I don't think what you've shown me today is all that you found." The woman let her words hang in the air. "So tell me what you're hiding from me." The woman knew Charlie must have been hiding something, after all, she knew he didn't have the funds to be able to purchase an intricate piece of jewelry like the ring he now flaunted.
- "I'm afraid, I don't know what you're referring too. We've given you the inventory logs, and you've seen our haul." Charlies was slightly wary. He wasn't that obvious with the ring but could feel that she knew more than he thought she knew. He had always gotten a strange ambiance from the woman, but could never understand what was different.
- "Hand me your ring." The woman demanded. Shocked, Charlie relented and twisted the piece off his finger. He placed it in the woman's outstretched hand. Instantly, the rings flashed into the sword Charlie had seen in the cavern. "Well, well. Isn't this interesting. This is exactly what I needed to bring me." Confused, Charlie started questioning his sanity...he had been studying with this woman for months before he left for Crete, and he knew there had never been any mention of a sword or ring.
- "You're crazy, there was never any talk of a sword...we were trying to uncover the ancient labyrinth."
- "Now that's where your wrong, Charles." She waved her hand, "This silly venture was only about this sword. It belonged to my father in-law..kind of." Charlie stared at the woman. There was no way the sword was less than a few thousand years old... "Oh isn't this amusing," the woman laughed as she witnessed, the slight fear and confusion on Charlie's face. "Don't worry, I'm not dangerous...well, not currently. Although I'm rather annoyed you didn't just give me the ring at first. Why the need to hide it?"
- Charlie stammered, "I didn't know it was that important to you." He slightly started backup up towards the exit of the room.
- "Nono, I wouldn't do that If I were you. We're not finished. I'm sure you can tell who I am by now. After all, you've studied my family history for your entire life."
- "Um, no offense but I have absolutely no clue who you are."
- "Damn, you mortals are so dimwitted. I'm the goddess Ariadne, the divine ruler of the Labyrinth, that you were trying to find. Honestly, this sword belonged to my father, and it was used to slay the Minitaur. I wanted you to find the Labyrinth to expose the divine world to the mortals, after all, it's not like I have a throne on Olympus to be celebrated by the Olympians. If only you knew how boring the life of a lesser-known goddess is, you would understand. Regardless, we are not finished together."--
Over the next few months, Ariadne used Charlie's pull in the scientific community for her bidding. She had the eventual intention of outing the other gods, but there was only so much she could do without the Olympians noticing her ploys. Additionally, the mist-covered up most of what Ariadne attempted to expose. Finally, after using Charlie for a long time, she sort of started falling for him. After all, even though she was a goddess, she still had standards and wasn't going to sleep around with everyone she saw. But she felt as if she knew Charlie, even though she was using him as a personal scientific slave.
Unbeknown to Ariadne, Charlie had started to develop feelings for the goddess. After all, few could judge him, she was attractive and besides the fact that she kinda intimidated him, he liked everything about her. He had always had a slight crush since they started working together before he even knew who she was, and part of him wished she was a mortal so they could be together.
One evening, while they were both working late, they both broke their stoic fronts and filled the next few evenings with nothing but passion. Their relationship continued until their child was born. Ariadne insisted they give the child a Greecian name, but eventually the parents compromised. They named the baby Aaron Adrian Jennings. They tried to co-parent the child at first, but that only lasted a few months. The gods had specific rules: they couldn't be in the lives of their children directly. Ariadne tried to circumvent the rule because in all honesty she believed the gods had forgotten all about her and wouldn't care. After the first few months, she found out that the Olympians had discovered her child. She wasn't going to tell Charlie, because she figured he would die in a few years and she wouldn't have to explain herself to him. In case things went wrong, she had a sword identical to her's created. Before her plan was complete, Charlie figured out what she was trying to do. He tried to stop her, but in her rage, she caused Charlie to have a heart attack.
The divine spat had increased the attention the Olympians were giving the situation. They forced Ariadne to give up the child. With the father dead, Ariadne transformed into an old woman and left the child at a fire station in downtown New York City. She left the sword with him, in the form of a silver ring, while she took her bronze ring with her. Then she disappeared.
Aaron had a pretty normal childhood...for an orphaned demi-god. He didn't know much about his parents and didn't have the slightest clue about his true heritage. The only thing he had to remember his parents by was the silver ring and a locket, both hung on a chain he wore around his neck. He never took the chain off, because it brought him peace.
Aaron was a troubled kid, but he didn't carry any grudge against his parents. He had been told his father died of a heart attack, and his mother died in a fire. Aaron had no reason to doubt the story and preferred to simply believe it. Some of the kids he grew up with on the city block, had just been left by their parents and were given to homes within the area for care. Aaron took this as a blessing, that even though he didn't know his parents, at least they didn't specifically leave him, so they could go off and live their lives.
Aaron was an overall happy kid, he stood out with the other kids on the block. He wouldn't stand for injustice or bullying, and always tried to stick up for the weaker kids, even if that meant he got physically hurt. By the time he was 12, he was one of the older kids in the area, and he looked out for the younger ones. He treated them like a family because after all they were the closest thing he had to a family.
His best friend was a gothic kid, who was much skinnier and smaller than Aaron. The kid's name was Barron. Aaron never remembered when he met Barron, one day he was just there. Aaron was under the impression that he lived several streets over, but he never saw exactly where Barron lived. Barron was a satyr who was sent from Camp Half-Blood to watch over Aaron. Due to Aaron's mother's slight rebellion, and questionable loyalty to the Olympians, they had Barron watch Aaron to find out where his loyalty would lie. What they hadn't know is that Aaron had no clue about his heritage, nor had any opinion on Greecian supernatural loyalty.
One evening, before their curfew, Aaron and Barron were playing a pickup game of Tennis at the community park district several streets over from their homes. Aaron was 14 at the time. The sun was setting, and they were about to pack up and go back to the apartment his foster parents rented. That's when a giant Equine charged into the tennis cage, it ran directly at Aaron, but Barron run up and jumped in front of the demigod. Aaron was terrified, the creature pounced on Barron. Aaron shook off his shock, and jumped up trying to tackle and get control of the animal. As soon as he landed on the beasts back, it bucked and a stream of fire came shooting out of his nose.
Aaron fell back off the monster, when he hit the ground, his chain broke, and the locket and ring flew off. Frantically, he reached for the locket, but instead grabbed past the ring, and caught it on his finger. Immediately, it transformed into the mystical sword, his mother had crafted for him. The monster was charging at Barron, who was frantically trying to...pull his feet off? Aaron watched as his best friend shed his lower half, and showed his hairy legs and hooves. Barron dodged the beast one more time, meanwhile, Aaron charged at it, with the sword in his hand, lept up, and slashed near the monster's carotid and jugular vein. The hours, falling unconscious toppled over. Aaron used the blade to slash deep into the monster's body, turning it to dust.
- "Come on, we have to go. Now!" Barron lept up from the ground and grabbed Aarons wrist. Aaron who was too stunned and troubled to protest followed his friend back to the apartment. They grabbed their few belongings and ran out of the building. "You have to trust me, we have to get far away from here because they know you exist. That's just the first, there may be others not too far behind." Barron shouted as they ran down the street. Aaron didn't know what to say, he only followed his friend. He didn't have any specific ties to the city block, besides the other kids.
- "No, I can't just leave the others, what if that thing comes back for them?!" Aaron shouted.
- "Don't worry, it doesn't care about them, it only wants you," Barron replied without a second of hesitation.
"Well, that's comforting." The boys sarcastically continued to run away from the apartment and parents he had known for his entire life. Eventually, they got a cap, and Barron handed a wad of cash over to the cabby. He drove them to Long Island. Once their, Barron led Aaron to Camp Half-Blood, while he explained what was going on. Along the way, he told Aaron about the Greek Gods, and explained how they were real. The only thing he refused to tell Aaron was the identity of his mother. He knew that would be more important once they got to camp. Finally, they made it. Aaron arrived at what he didn't know was his new home.
Powers of a Child of Pandia:
- Children of Ariadne have the ability to cause someone to believe that they are trapped inside a labyrinth, disrupting their senses into seeing anything else for a short time. While under its effect, they become more vulnerable to attacks.
- Children of Ariadne, while a labyrinth is summoned, have the ability to create 1 to 3 lesser monsters (those classified as “easy” in the Monster Encyclopedia) nearby them within it; these monsters, however, will not be controlled and will attack anyone they see.
- Children of Ariadne have the ability to create a large portion of a labyrinth wall to protect themselves until it corrodes after a short time. The walls can be created at all directions to create an absolute defense, but drains more energy from the user. Conversely, this can be used to imprison enemies.
- Children of Ariadne can cause a person to feel/be lost, as if they don’t know how to reach their desired destination and wander off aimlessly which may induce distress, confusion and loss of concentration, for a short time. The effect can be used on a larger number of people, but drains more energy.
- Children of Ariadne have the innate ability to find their way through/around any sort of puzzle, maze or obstacle without any aid, as if they have a psychic compass within them. They are also able to perceive any kind of hidden obstruction, trap or dead-end within a 10 meter radius around them.
- Children of Ariadne have the innate ability to see in multiple directions at once, allowing their senses of sight to become more finely attuned to their surroundings.
- Children of Ariadne have the ability to create a real labyrinth which traps anyone inside it for a short time. The user has total control over the creation, such as altering and closing its walls or even expand the maze at any time. However, a larger maze will consume more energy from the user. The maze has a roof over it and cannot be teleported out of.
- Children of Ariadne can conjure a very durable wool string that can be used to navigate around a place, mislead or ensnare victims, bind or strangle enemies, hold or suspense things firmly, weave fine cloth or in any way possible. The longer the string, the more energy it drains. The string can also be conjured from the ground or from any surface.
- Children of Ariadne can increase or decrease a person's passions, whether the purpose is to weaken one’s will to fight, or to motivate them to do a certain hobby or to love, etc. The longer this state is maintained, the more energy is drained from the user.
- Children of Ariadne are able to teleport themselves through the mazes they created. The further the distance traveled, the more energy drained.
- Children of Ariadne have the ability to construct paths out of materials found around them that they can use to take them anywhere (up into the air, over trees, etc.) but as they move along the path, the path behind them slowly corrodes. The longer they use the energy required to make a path, the more they are drained.*
- Children of Ariadne have the ability to enchant a localized location into becoming an illogical, yet illusory, maze which traps anyone inside it. With this ability, the user can cause a building’s passageways to lead somewhere else such as an upstairs flight lead to the basement, a closet room lead to the rooftop, lead a door back to itself, and so on and so forth. The larger the area of effect and the longer it is held, the more it drains the user.*
- Children of Ariadne have the ability to materialize a shadowy form of the Minotaur into existence which is capable of both fighting and dying under their control, in a sense; afterwards, it will vanish and drains the user extensively. However, the Minotaur conjured is weaker than its real counterpart would be.*
- Children of Ariadne have an excellent sense of direction, and are able to navigate and locate any location with ease, rarely getting lost.
- Children of Ariadne are typically willing to help others, even to strangers.
