At first glance, Abraham might not look to be the most outgoing person; his dark clothes and inexistent smile in public are a dead giveaway that he'd easily just be another good-for-nothing teenager. However, with friends and people he likes, Abraham is easily the most playful person you could meet. His happy-go-lucky personality naturally draws people in and his witty sense of humour keeps them entertained. Although he can be a very nice, open, and non-judgemental person, some think that his intense loyalty and somewhat short-temper would be his main flaws. When angry, Abraham's blood boils and tosses like the waves of the sea. He can be utterly ruthless to those who double-cross him, but he tries his best to avoid uncomfortable situations like those. Abraham likes to think of himself as a fair and just person, but sometimes he can't help but be biased. He doesn't feel jealousy like some around him, but every once in a while, he'll feel like he's not up to par with everyone else.
Abraham enjoys talking to other people and has always dreamed of going on an adventure. He would do anything to travel the seas and fight the kinds of imaginary monsters that he regularly sees in his favourite storybooks and video games.
On what was just another normal day, Nikki was out and about with her loving boyfriend, Brendan. After a quick shop-till-you-drop session (that Brendan seriously did not enjoy) through the urban jungle that was Toronto, the two decided to make their way down to the waterfront where the great Lake Ontario resided. Whilst in a nearby ice-cream shop, Nikki noticed a man watching her as she ordered her double mint-chocolate and Brendan's Triple Rocky Road cones. He was good-looking. Very good-looking. Jet black hair with sparks of grey and stubble that made pronounced his masculinity and gave him a sharp-edge look. He was wearing white board shorts and a blue plaid shirt with pure black aviators that rested on his disheveled hair. His age was something she couldn't guess since he couldn't have been anything more than a little older than her. Not knowing who he was, she dismissed the subject and returned to her date.
A little more than a year later, single and bored, Nikki decided to return to the beach where she had her last date with Brendan. She could barely get over him, he was her everything but learning that he cheated on her was something she couldn't take. It felt like he was the drug that she needed, but just couldn't have. And that was when she remembered. The handsome model-like man who was checking her out that day a year ago. If only I could have dated him instead. He seemed like a real man, nothing like...Brendan. As if God had answered her prayers, there he was again. Strolling down the beach, his body glistening as the sunlight shone on him. It was as if she was in a movie. Within seconds, he was in front of her and he suddenly stopped as if he himself had seen a goddess. Nikki wasn't anything special. She was Canadian-born, her parents were immigrants from India. She had light brown skin and a slim, curvy figure with brown hair that ran down to her lower back. With a dazzling white smile, the man sparked a conversation with Nikki. It was all too good to be true she thought. It was around three months into their relationship when her boyfriend told her the truth.
"The thing is babe, I've been lying to you this entire time. You're amazing, and you deserve to know the truth. Who I really am. What I really do."
No, please. Don't ruin what we have. I don't want to lose you. "Don't tell me. I just...don't want to lose you."
"Let me show you."
That night, Nikki must have fell for him all over again. Poseidon. God of the Seas. She made love to a God. Well wasn't that surprising. Poseidon could only stay for so long though, he had to leave. Work was to be done in Olympus, and as a part of the Big Three, his job was one of the most important ones. He told her everything she needed to tell their child. And after only three months, he was gone, into the blue. Literally. He actually walked in the sea and vanished.
Around a year later, Nikki was in the hospital, ready to give birth to her newborn child. No one but her mother was at her bedside. The man who had gifted her this amazing new child was nowhere to be seen. But she knew why. She knew what she would tell her child. Nikki knew the dangers of her bringing this new life into the world, but somehow, she just couldn't resist it. Part of her wanted something to remember him by, another part of her just didn't want to erase this one from existence. It felt wrong. Hours of labour later, the high-pitched screaming of a caramel coloured baby echoed through the halls of the hospital. Into the world came Nikki's newborn son. She would call him Abraham, after the man who was a great leader. He'll become a great leader, just like his father. That was all she could think of as she raised him, her beautiful little demi-god.
In his early years, Nikki would sometimes get dirty looks for being the single mother. Especially since she was of Indian descent, those who shared her culture would frown upon associating with her. It was only Nikki and his Grandma who were in Abraham's life. He didn't have much of a childhood, moving from place to place because of his mother's job. Abraham didn't ask about his father until around the age of 6 when he watched his friends from school get dropped off and picked up by either their fathers or their mothers.
"He was a man of action and he loved his outings at the sea. He'd go for weeks at a time. We even met at the beach, honey. He could never sit still, like the sea. I think you've both got the ADD gene. ", his mother would tell him often. Abraham's father was also Greek, which was another reason why Nikki and her family was shunned by their Indian relatives and friends. As a child, Abraham would always see things that no one else could. People with one eye, pets that didn't look like they could be domesticated or fit into a handbag for that matter.
At 10 years old, Abraham knew he wasn't like everyone else. He hated what he was born into. He was constantly moving since his mother was serving with the Canadian Navy. Dyslexia and ADD always had him failing in his classes even though he swore he would do well if he could only read the work he was assigned. Abraham was always at sea, but that was what made his life worth living. He swore he could look out through the portholes and over the deck all day long since it made him feel as if he was at home. Sometimes he would wonder if that was why his mother had chosen the life at sea. It was as if she was always looking for something. It couldn't have been his dad though, he was dead. He had died in a car crash right before Abraham was born. Abraham didn't have many friends, every time the Navy stationed the family in a new area, they would have to leave before Abraham could really get close to anyone. Life at sea could get boring though, and once in a while, Abraham would wish he could go on an adventure. One day, his wish came true.
Venice, Italy was beautiful. Abraham was 11 years old and it was as if he had found the place where he wanted to live for the rest of his life. His mother had quit the Navy, opting to go into Marine Engineering instead. After receiving her first paycheck, she took him out to watch "Clash of the Titans", it was featured in Italian but it had English subtitles. Either way, Abraham knew he wouldn't enjoy the movie since he wouldn't understand a thing. However, he was mesmerized by the way the hero, Perseus, battled the evil monsters and saved Princess Andromeda. Leaving the theatres, the candy-filled and sugar-high little Abraham jumped up and down as he describe the entire movie, scene after scene to his mother. She couldn't help but smile as her baby was feigning death as he re-enacted Medusa's death. "Mommy, I wish I could be a demi-god, that was sooo cool!" Nikki laughed out loud and told him that it was just a movie. I'm so dumb, Abraham thought, Gods and Heroes aren't real.
Seeing that it was getting dark, Nikki decided to cut through an alley a few blocks away from their home. As the two strolled through, Abraham could hear hissing from behind the dumpsters lining the walls. The two slowed down, for fear of a wild animal and decided to turn back. But that was when they saw him. Right behind them, literally inches away from their faces stood a pale woman in a large black overcoat. Abraham was too short and he couldn't see much. All he saw were the snake-like body that slithered out from underneath the coat. They didn't look like any Nikes he'd seen. "Sorry, excuse us.", said Nikki as she tried to maneuvre her way out of the dangerous situation. The pale-faced beauty/snake-thing began to come even closer and began to draw its hand out from inside it's coat. She seized Nikki's arm and wouldn't let go. The hissing from before began to draw closer, getting louder by the second. Before they knew it, both mother and son were surrounded.
Abraham didn't know how to react and he started crying, "Mommy, I'm scared!"
Nikki didn't panic. She had forgotten to wear her perfume. She should've known. How could I have been so careless? Within seconds, she was out of the woman's grip, and she threw herself into a fighting stance. She looked down at her child and yelled, "Now! Run! Take my cellphone and speed dial number 7"
Abraham began to cry harder as he saw two more things coming out of of the alley. Their red eyes flowing through the shadows as if they were from hell itself. "But why mommy?!"
"Just do it!", she yelled, fighting back tears. Abraham grabbed the cellphone from her hand and began to run down the alley. "έλα εδώ", said one of the Scythian Dracanae in front of him, trying to grab his little body. Somehow Abraham translated that into "Get over here!". Abraham wondered how his Mother knew what the monsters looked like, but realized she could probably see them like he could. Before his grandma died, she always said that the monsters were just a figment of his imagination. Abraham slid under through its legs, seeing the scaley lining on them. Picking himself up, Abraham was about to dash out of the alley when he heard a loud crash and saw as the Snake-lady tossed his mother across the alley and towards him. A resounding crack made him shudder as his mother's nearly lifeless body lay in front of his feet. She lifted her bloody head for the last few seconds she had on this earth.
Abraham slowly turned towards his mother, barely believing what was happening. His eyes red from crying, he shouted, "Mommy!", hoping his screams would drive the evil monsters away. "You really are a demi-god, honey, I love you!", Nikki whispered back to him as she placed a necklace with a trident charm on the end in his hand. "Run, baby! Be safe and find your father!"
"Be safe and find your father"
Those were the words he repeated to himself every night. Abraham couldn't stop but wondering. Isn't my Dad dead? How am I a demi-god? I couldn't even fight those demons back, I'm no Perseus, I'm just a wuss.
Abraham never speed dialed the number that his mother told him to call. Instead he called the Police. It seemed like the rational decision at the time. Single mother and former Canadian Navy Officer' murdered in Venetian alleyways. Robbery gone wrong. Nobody believed him, it was just a bunch of local thieves that were on a rampage. At least that's what the cops thought. They didn't know what he saw. The monsters. It had been two years since then, Abraham was in a military boarding school back in Canada. His favourite class was P.E. It was the only time he was in the water. That's where he felt all his worries wash away. Abraham wore his mother's trident necklace religiously, it was all he had left. Well that and that old piece of crap Motorola Razr that his mother tossed him the day she died.
As class was ending, Mr. Vertes, Abraham's Ancient History teacher, asked for Abraham to stay behind while everyone else left. At first, Abraham was afraid he was in trouble, but in all actuality, Mr. Vertes only wanted to congratulate Abraham on getting his first A. "Perhaps you should look into a career in history, you seem to be doing pretty good with the Greek parts especially." Abraham accredited it to his partial Greek heritage, but Mr. Vertes was nonetheless as supportive as can be and insisted that he take the AP version next year. It was why he liked his Ancient History teacher so much. It was like he understood everything Abraham was going through. As Abraham left the classroom, he sensed someone stalking him through the hall. Turning around, he saw one of the upper classmen. "What do you want, Javier?"
Javier was a big, fat bully. Literally. Everyday, he and his cohorts would pick on Abraham. "Hey, Retard kid, what were you talking to that dumbass teacher about?"
"Nothing, asshole, leave me alone.", Abraham said grimly as he attempted to walk away. He wouldn't let that smelly idiot, Javier, anger him. He'd been doing it for nigh on a year and Abraham was getting tired of it.
"Was it about your mom? Yeah, I'd guess so. If you're stupid, then she must have been the queen of idiots! I mean, who goes into an alley at night?", Javier said, sparking Abraham's rage and giving something for his equally idiotic friends to snicker about.
Abraham stopped. He clenched his fists and his eyes began to water. "Don't you dare talk about my mom that way."
"Why, what're you gonna do about it, crybaby?", Javier replied, snickering at his witty comeback. "Come, fight me. I know you want to...", the stocky boy said as his voice grew deeper until it finally hit a raspy, bellowing pitch. "Come fight me, half-blood."
Within seconds, Abraham turned around, half confused and half blind by anger. The bully whom he once hated grew a little less stocky by the second and instead of chubby cheeks and stubby fingers, the bully-no-the monster grew nearly 7 feet tall and gained features that would only be naturally gained through steroids and a shit ton of testosterone pills. The hairy, sharp-toothed man was salivating at the red and hairy lips as it came closer towards Abraham, hungering for demi-blood blood.
"Holy shit, you're one of those man-eater things... you're a Lastro, uhh"
"Laistrygonian. And you're my dinner, Abraham Fable. Mmm...Ham."
Abraham swiftly turned and ran, "I can get this fucker back later, I don't wanna die here. Not in friggin' school!" Leaping down half a flight of stairs, the young man dashed out the front entrance of the military school. He was running his fastest and the Laistrygonian was still in sight. Dammit, I need like a weapon or something, I don't think I can outrun this guy...
Mere moments passed by since Abraham had crossed the road, hoping Senor Bloodthirsty would get hit by a truck or something, but to his luck, the monster cleared a bus using all his pent up speed and narrowly avoided several cars and a squirrel. Ducking into alleys and such, Abraham made his way down to the pier. This was his hideout on the days when nothing was going his way. His quiet abode was about to be his resting place. At least if I die, it might as well be where I belong. By the sea. Abraham ran into an abandoned warehouse that he was familiar with. It had a ramp near the back that drove straight into the water so workers could unload shipment from smaller cargo ships.
By the time the Laistrygonian had caught up, Abraham was nowhere to be seen. He was hiding behind one of the boxes, holding his breath so the monster wouldn't hear him. "Come out, come out, wherever you are."
Abraham listened for Javier's position as the monster tore through wooden crates that lined the warehouse floor. "Oh I can't wait to get my hands on you. I'm wondering if I should bring you to my cousin. Fabio really loves to bake and I'm sure Half-blood lasagna wouldn't be that bad..."
The Laistrygonian had settled down a little and for a second, Abraham thought he was gone. A shuffling sound came to his left and Abraham began to back away to his right in fear. Oh shit, what do I do, he's gonna be coming around the corner any sec- "Oof!" Abraham looked behind him in terror.
"Miss me?" The Laistrygonian was right behind him. "I like to play with my food!", the monster said, its eyes blaring wide and an evil grin on its face. Abraham screamed in fear and crawled out of the cramped up space as the Laistrygonian swiped at him. A claw caught him in the back before he was fully clear of it and he could feel a burning sensation on his back, as his blood trickled down.
Abraham could hear sirens as the Laestrygonians chased him to the back of the warehouse by the ramp leading to the lake. Damn, someone must have seen this piece of shit. He's not that hard to miss anyways.
"You cannot escape me now, mortal. You can try to swim, but I am faster. Come face your fate."
Abraham's blood boiled. His mother had died to monsters, his father had left him as a child. But now this? He barely got to live a happy life. His last three years on this earth were equivalent to that of hell. A bully turned monster. No luck with school because of dyslexia. Damn, he didn't even get to beat the last level in Assassin's Creed. Abraham clutched the Trident charm on his necklace. Tears dropped and cleansed the little charm. Abraham looked up, his eyes red and damp. "There's no way I'm dying here. Not now. Why don't you just go to he-no...Tartarus!", he shouted. Suddenly Abraham felt a rush of strength, his necklace glew and behind him, he heard the sudden rush of waves. His eyes never left the giant and within seconds, as if all his anger took form, a giant spout of dirty lake water blasted straight into Javier, knocking the monster back several feet.
The Laistrygonian swore in Ancient Greek as he slammed into the concrete floor. From a distance, Abraham heard the sound of tires screeching and car doors being slammed shut. From within his pocket, his phone vibrated. Pulling it out, there were no messages except for one written in ancient greek. "αριθμός Τύπο επτά".Press the number seven, he translated into english. Without question, Abraham flipped his Motorola Razr open and held down the 7 key. The phone chimed in the tone of a conch shell being blown and in seconds his phone transformed in a double edged celestial bronze blade that runs about 3 and a half feet long with a leather wrapped grip and a hilt that was ice cold. It felt just right in his hands and at the bottom of the blade was a blue trident and along the blade was the Greek word for "Waterfall" written sideways, "καταράχτης" (Kat-ah-rack-tees). It finally makes sense. This is why mom told me to use the phone that night.
Abraham walked up to the giant that was still dazed on the ground. "Go to Tartarus, you monster!", he shouted just as he plunged his new sword straight into the Laestrygonians chest. The scuttling off footsteps caught him off guard and Abraham looked up to see police officers with guns trained on him. "Step away from the boy, or we will shoot!"
Abraham knew they wouldn't be able to tell what he just did. It would be like last time. For some reason only his mother and he could see monsters. The police officers probably thought he murdered the annoying school bully, Javier.
It didn't take long for Abraham to realize he wasn't going to be going back to school the next day. At least not right away. According to the Judge that presided over his case, Abraham was declared a criminal for murdering an innocent bully in cold blood and it would be up to five years until he went back to school. Not that he was complaining, though he would miss his Ancient History Teacher, Mr, Vertes.
Abraham was sent to the nearby Juvenile Detention Center for underage criminals. Getting dirty looks from the kids around him had scared him only a bit, but after learning who exactly he was and what he had done, most of the other inmates just left him alone. Most of the kids were there on little charges like petty theft or taking a fight a tad too far.
News travelled fast around the prison and after making a few acquaintances, Abraham realized that there was a new kid coming into town. He was apparently a rich kid's son, but he was caught for petty theft. Greedy and rebellious don't mix well, Abraham thought. It didn't take long before the kid got caught in some deep trouble with one of the older gangs in the juvie. One of the extremely large kids started to pick on him and began to start a fight. Before long, Abraham started to see through the mist and he noticed how the boy actually looked. He - no it was tall and furry. It resembled a big, fat bull on the top, while it had the physique of a man. Standing at around 6'7", the monster had two horns on either side of its head and glared hungrily at the measly little boy standing in front of it.
Abraham knew he had to do something instead of turn tail and hide. Pretending that this all was not happening wasn't going to help him very much. Instead he turned and ran at the Minotaur whilst shouting, "Hey! Yeah, you fat load of bullshit!" Abraham smirked at his comment and nearly lost his footing as he sidestepped a swipe of the Minotaur's arm.
- Children of Poseidon can fire a powerful blast of water with high pressure, the equivalent to that of a powerful fire hose.
- Children of Poseidon have the ability to conjure a weapon out of water which can be used for combat; however, only one weapon can be conjured at a time and it cannot be bigger than the one who conjured it. They can also make small non-combative objects out of water.
- Children of Poseidon can densify the water pressure in their own bodies, hardening their muscles and skin to the point where they are immune to physical attacks for a short time.
- Children of Poseidon can innately breathe and heal slightly faster underwater.
- Children of Poseidon can keep themselves and everything they touch dry in the water, unless they choose to become wet.
- Children of Poseidon can make air bubbles form under water, some large enough to contain allies and sustain them for a moderate time before popping.
- Children of Poseidon can survive falling from high altitudes as long as they land in water, they can also go as deep into the ocean as they desire without any effects from the water pressure.
- Children of Poseidon have the ability to create minor earthquakes, only large enough to knock anyone in the immediate vicinity of the user off their feat, and only for a few seconds.
- Children of Poseidon have the ability to Water Travel, a sort of teleportation; the further the distance, the more is energy drained, and there must be a substantial amount of water at both ends.
- Children of Poseidon are able to telekinetically move water at a high rate. The larger amount of water used, the more energy it drains.
- Children of Poseidon are able to summon and telepathically command equestrian animals, such as horses, giraffes, zebras and hippocampi. They can also do the same with all animals that dwell in the sea, the more animals summoned and the bigger they are. The more energy is drained.
- Children of Poseidon can create the octopus form, a body of water formed around the user into a protective barrier of water with eight or so whip-like limbs which can be used to grasp or strike an attacking opponent or to intercept and seize incoming projectiles. The longer this form is maintained, the more energy is drained.
