Mara was a young woman living on a small ranch on the outskirts of Las Vegas, Nevada. She lived with both her parents as they helped her with the lovely little ranch they lived on. Though there were many animals on the ranch she was more drawn to the little insects; Bees. She spent most of her time tending to the beautiful little honey bees caring for them to the point she treated them like the other animals on the farm, rather than the pest others assumed them to be.
Mara continued to tend to the little bees every single day, spending much of her time with them. She eventually came to know much about each species of bee from the honey bee to the hornet. As she studied and researched these things she caught the eye of Aristaeus, disguising himself as a young Asian man named Jericho. The pair hit it off, though her parents didn’t approve of the young man, they presumed to be just a tourist wanting a taste of the local woman. Even though she was a grown adult she still listened to her parents diligently, but for the first time in her life she wasn’t going to listen to her parents.
As weeks drew into months she continued upon seeing the young man, confiding in her friend about the things that were going on, though she couldn’t confide in her best friend as she’d left a few years prior due to an incident occurring. She continued to see the young man and then things eventually got serious up to the point she ended up doing the dirty which ended up in her getting pregnant. Upon finding out she told the young man, who seemed excited. She was hoping to take things to the next level, but for some reason she had a feeling it wouldn’t happen.
A few days passed and the young man was gone and with no way to reach him, she grew devastated. She now knew her parents were right about one thing: Jericho was only there to sleep with her and then leave. She was so devastated and upset at this point. One thought struck her: How was she to tell her parents that she was pregnant? That wasn’t going to go over well and she knew it. It took her almost a month to gain the courage to finally tell them what had gone on.
When she finally told them it was like hell had come down on the house. So much yelling and crying. All of it was too much for her, but her parents were happy for her, but at that moment they were angry that she’d defied their wishes and still gone to see that man. After a few days they accepted that they were going to have a grandchild, but they made their daughter stay home, and only allowed her to go into town if her mother was with her. It was if she were a child again only allowed to do things if her parents allowed it. She hated every moment of it, but she wasn’t going to complain about it.
A few months later, January 21st, 2000, she gave birth to a baby boy whom she named Connor Ryuk. She loved the boy and showered him with all the love she could possibly give. Her parents were elated to meet the young man both being very excited to be grandparents. A few months later she received a letter in the mail from Jericho. She opened it up to find that it explained why he left and that he was, in fact, the Greek god Aristaeus. She was in shock, as she wanted to know why someone would create such a lie. She continued to read the letter as it explained that the boy was a demigod and that he had to go to a place called Camp Half-Blood when he was 13 or 14. She didn’t buy it for a moment and in turn threw the letter away never once telling anyone about it.
At the age of 6 Connor started elementary school, yea he went a year later but there was reason for it. His mother kept him home as to help her tend to everything from the honey bees to the horse. She even sat him down to teach him Taiwanese as it made it easier to communicate with his grandparents, who didn’t actually speak english. It was a little awkward when he started school, a he didn’t know how to interact with the other kids his age. Instead he decided to keep himself quite and to only speak when someone would initiate a conversation, which rarely happened. Since he was rather quiet he was an easy target for bullies and the chastised voices of his peers. He never once complained or told on them, as he wanted them to eventually become his friends. Though, he knew in his heat that would never happen.
2 years later, age 8, His mother started dating someone and he was happy for her. He seemed like a very nice guy, but in reality he really wasn’t. He was manipulative and cunning only using her to get what he wanted. A few months later and she eventually married the young man not once catching onto his true colors, even failing to listen to her son when he said some really weird accusation like: That he’d hit him, and that the new bruises on his face weren’t from falling off the playground at school. She decided not to believe him, as she thought he was a good man, and would think so always.
His mother's new husband wasn’t a great man, and only he knew it and eventually his grandparents caught on. They caught onto this rather quick when he told them that they weren’t from the playground that they were from that man. Eventually the man convinced her that her own son wasn’t needed in their ideal family. So one day she dropped him off at his grandparents house for a weekend visit only for the weekend visit to turn into weeks and then months. He waited and waited for his mother to come back, but she never did. She didn’t want him anymore and it made him extremely sad, because his mother was the one person, in his mind, that actually loved him. He spent the days that he didn’t attend school waiting for her to come back. This went on for almost a year until he realized that she wasn’t ever coming back.
A couple years later, age 11, and it was a few days before his birthday when he received a package in the mail and a letter. When he opened the package up, much to his astonishment, it was a skateboard. The letter only read: Have fun with your new present it’ll come in handy one day. He didn’t understand what that meant, but he wasn’t going to ponder it as it was exactly what he had always wanted. His grandparents were completely against him having a skateboard, but they let him keep it, because after all it was a gift. He took the skateboard with him everywhere not ever leaving it somewhere for others to take. Connor eventually became great at riding his skateboard sometimes going to the skate park and hanging out with the people there. The boys appearance at the time, kind of awkward nerd look, gave off the air that he probably sucked at skateboarding, but that proved to be wrong as he skateboarded pretty well. He spent much of his free time at the skate park, just hanging out with the people there. None of which went to school with him.
A couple years later, age 13, and the boy was headed out to the skate park, just to hang out with some of his friends. As he made his way towards the building, it was a little late outside, the cover of night clouded the figure that had started following him. As he walked a few more paces he heard the inhuman sound of growling, and he turned around slowly only for him to freeze in place as he took in the sight of the creature. It was a rather large dog and it scared him especially upon the creature charging towards him. He just stood there in shock until the large dog was mere inches away from him, and he ran. He ended up turning and running down the alley way between 2 different pawn shops. He didn’t know what to do and he was obviously filled with dread as he heard the sound of the large creature running, but lucky for him the alley was a rather small one, therefore the creature wasn’t able to fit. He noticed a door, with breakable glass, to his right. He thought for a few minutes before realizing that he had no other way to go unless he wanted to be do chow. He picked up his board and started slamming it against the glass a few hits and the glass was broken, and he was able to get into the store.
Upon entering the pawn shop it was completely deserted which was rather odd considering they usually stayed open 24 hours. He wandered through the pawn shop trying to find an exit that the creature wouldn’t be able to reach, but that was deemed rather hard when he hear the shattering of glass and he knew the creature had managed to make its way inside. He started running again only to find himself face to face with the creature. He looked at his skateboard and used it as a weapon to wack the creature with. His grip on the skateboard loosened a bit and he ended up gripping one of the bearings and accidentally twisting it. The skateboard turned into a short sword which went right through the creature, cutting it right down the middle just as the police sirens could be heard.
The police didn’t believe his story about the dog and deemed it as a lie. They took him home and his grandparents were extremely surprised that he’d break into a pawnshop and lie to get out of trouble. They were extremely disappointed in him and they let him know by grounding him for a long time and making him work to pay off the expenses for the property he damaged.
Age 14, and someone called Morpheus came to his dreams. Connor had started dreaming about the perfect person, which ended up being a guy. He didn’t mind the dreaming, but they started becoming more vivid as he started dreaming more of this young man. Little did he know he punishing him and the boy in his dreams, cursing the two to see each other in their dreams only, forever be plagued by each other’s subconscious problems, and to fall in love. The twist to this cruel curse was that neither would meet til one was mortally wounded. It was a rather cruel fate, after all Connor only wanted to meet someone who’d love him back and care for him like the people around him didn’t.
A monster attack came, as the dreams became even more vivid. The boy in his dreams was rather different than what he thought him to be, and eventually they started speaking to one another. The dreams were sometimes his own and sometimes they were random dreams that made no sense to him, but as the time went on the setting didn’t matter. The other person in his dream, he soon came to find out was named Cedric, would often tease him and make stupid jokes about him, but instead of making him upset they didn’t. He didn’t know, but at that time he was falling for the other. The god Morpheus would revel in the thought of the two finally falling for the other only for them to met when the other was dying.
2 years and 2 monster attacks later and the boy was now 16, and some creatures called satyrs had apparently found 2 demigods that had gone to the same school. What were the odds that happened? One was him and the other someone named Cedric. Upon hearing the name he was in shock, because how could he exist? He was just a figment of his dreaming imagination right? He didn’t know what to think so instead he just heard the words the satyr spoke. Mostly about a camp and learning about his parentage. He didn’t know what to do so instead of thinking about it and pondering what to do he decided to rush in head first and go with the flow.
He went home and just packed the little bit of belongings he had into a bag before writing a note and leaving it for his grandparents. They ended up flying to New York and then going the rest of the way by car.
