Chad Bryant was a nobody in everyname of the word. He was a botanist working as a florist in a failing shop that was left in a state of disrepair-- due to his interest in plants rather than the actual job or shop. They were the only things he really understood. And they brought her into his life. She was beautiful. Way out of his league. Too much for a nobody like him. But when she talked to him he felt like somebody, he felt so special, and he fell in love with that feeling. Eventually she announced that she was pregnant, but that she could not stay with him. She told him that she could not stay with anyone for long- but that she would return with his son. She kept her promise, but after giving him his son, she left again. He was broken.
For a while he lived for the son, Adam. He worked harder on his shop, tried to actually make a living for his child so that he could be raised in a good home. But then she came again. She apologized for leaving, said she was sorry for what happened- but that she had to do it, and that she missed him. For a while he was happy again. Then she did it again. She left. Once again she came back with a daughter, but this time she told him the truth. That she was a Goddess, and her children, demigods, were her last gift to him. She would never see him again. He name the daughter Evelyn, life, after the woman. She was his life.
Chad was never the same. He fell deeper into his work, focusing on the plants that drew Demeter's attention towards him, in the hope he might once again gain her favor. He worked enough to pay the bills on the apartment he rented, and to hire a nanny to watch the children until they were old enough to start school. Mean while the two children practically raised each other. They were each other's mother and father, and sometimes the neighbors would help out with the two ramshackle children, but they were often perturbed by the children's strange relationship.
As Adam and Evelyn grew older they grew to hate the father who never care for them. They saw themselves as the only two important people in the world, the fabled Adam and Eve. They had tasted the golden apple of knowledge that others could never grasp and were beyond the others. The world was their own and they deserved to play with it as they will. At the ages of 15 and 14 they ran off from the home that was their cage and into the world that was their playground. No one came looking for them.
Now for normal children life on the streets would be hard. Adam and Ev were not normal children. They were running scams on anyone who took pity on the children, stealing their wallets and valuables before they even realized they were being pickpocketed. As they grew older they became ring-leaders of more elaborate schemes. Ev would distract, mean while Adam and some drifters would raid the place stealing any valuables, car parts, or merchandise they could get their hands on. The siblings had little use for the money, sure they used as little as they needed to survive in the city, then the rest they used to cause the merry chaos that Gods make when bored. Toying with the minds and ideas of others, weather it be by causing a giant venus fly-trap to randomly appear or messing with someone's mind in the dark. They lived for the thrill of making and controlling the rules of their world. That is until someone got in the way.
One day when running a common scam, Adam and Ev messing with the mind of some poor john who tried to save the seeming damsel-in-distress, they were caught by some guy. He said he was demigod too, that he was working with the Broken Covenant, trying to right all the wrongs in the world. He kept asking them why they felt the need to do this, break the laws, torture some guy, when they didn't have too. He said if they went with him they could have a new life. They didnt want a new life. They wanted to run their little world the way they had for years. He threatened that world. Adam killed him.
Eventually, in Civitas, the member's absence was noted. The rest of the mission part had returned and reported that he dissapeared in the city where the tracks of two demigods had been reported. They went in for revenge. They found the siblings soon enough. They hadn't covered their tracks well enough to go completely unnoticed. That day instead of fighting together, Adam and Evelyn got split up. They tried to run, and agreed to meet up at the far side of town. Ev never made it. She was taken hostage by Civitas, to be used as bait to get the brother who murdered on of their brother-in-arms.
Adam would not be separated from his sister for long. He made sure to get noticed, so he could be picked up by this 'camp' that the BC was fighting against. After a few days of blatantly making his presence known, he was picked up by a group of demigods on their way to camp.
