Parents' meeting and Garret's birth:
Raphael Clover has trained almost his entire life to become a professional assassin. However, despite being a professional, that does not mean he is perfect. He had one job go awry. His job was assassinate his target while he was sleeping in his penthouse and because he's being protected by bodyguards (the target is scared someone will try to harm him), firearms would attract too much attention, so he had to break his neck. However, when Raphael was about to kill him, one of the target's bodyguards as well as one of the target's friends unexpectedly enters the room right when he was about to finish the job. He manages to kill the target in the way he was supposed to, but when he was about to escape, Raphael notices the target's friend and bodyguard can see his face and the friend looked like he was recording a video or taking a picture with his phone. Having to act quickly, he stole the friend's phone and threw the two out of a window to fall to their death. He then quickly destroys the phone by dropping it in the target's toilet (he was wearing gloves, so no fingerprints) and escapes the building without being noticed by anyone else. To sum up, he nearly had his face and identity revealed, resulting in the deaths of two innocent men.
After this job, he decides to retire as an assassin, because to him, one bad job is one too many and he felt guilty that he caused two deaths of innocent people. The only other person who knows about his status as an assassin and his last job's failure was his loyal younger sister, Alice Clover, who was living with a rich family known for owning an airline. She decided to help him in his time of need because he took care of her ever since she was a child before he became an assassin. So he got a job working at her family's airline as a pilot after sending him to flight school.
Then one day in a French restaurant, a very beautiful woman, who called herself Aphrodite (Raphael thought it was a nickname), suddenly decided to sit in the table Raphael was sitting in. At first, Raphael tried his best not to get involved with her, but after giving her a chance to talk and having a nice dinner, they did fall in love with one another and did... well.... you know. After a few months with her, Aphrodite tells Raphael she must leave him, but Raphael does not try to argue or deny it, leaving a sword that can transform into a heart-shaped pendant to remember her by. About 6 months later, he receives a letter in the mail from her saying,
"Raph, it's me. We need to talk. Meet me at the restaurant where we first met. I have a... surprise for you."
He arrived as soon as he got the letter and was definitely surprised to see her there... And with a baby in her hands no less! He was confused at first but after a talking just like they did the first night they met, she tells him she really is Aphrodite from Greek legends and that she gave birth to a demigod, and that he will eventually live a dangerous life. Saying this she gives Raphael a letter to give their son after reading it himself, she tells Raphael not to let their son open it until "Something happens that tells him he needs to open it". She also tells him because she is a goddess, she can rarely or never be with him again, and just like before he accepts it and takes his son, naming him Garret.
After Aphrodite left Raphael, Raphael remembered her words and trained Garret in everything he was taught for as long as Garret could remember. Garret's life revolved mostly around combat and stealth training. Raphael and Garret also constantly traveled around the world, so Garret didn't have time to make friends before he had to get back to traveling. He also got some basic schooling from Raphael, however not much because Garret's ADHD and dyslexia made that difficult. But to him, it didn't matter. Raphael has already made Garret a powerful force when it comes to combat and made him a great tactician so he could find the best way to assassinate someone, so to Garret, a formal education would just be a waste of time.
At age 10, he was capable of beating up people much bigger and stronger than himself, though he never actually killed anyone yet, it was obvious to Raphael that he was capable of doing so. At age 11, he received a gift from his mother: A bow and arrow set that could turn into a ring.
At age 13, he received a deck of metal cards from his mother. At first, he thought the cards to be impractical and inefficient, but after his first encounter with a monster, he grew fond of using them because he is able to use them as shurikens, and they are just as effective as real shurikens as well. He also uses the to slash things at close range. Soon the cards became his favorite weapons in his arsenal.
Garret, at 13 years old, is in Hoboken, New Jersey because his father had a out of state conference, when suddenly a harpie attacked him while Garret was wondering about his mother. With no suitable close range weapons to fight it head on, Garret was forced to try to escape using his bow and arrow to take it down. He saw a man selling smoke bombs on the street (how convenient!) and used them to escape the harpie's sights and escaped onto the roof of a two-story building. He took a few shots but they weren't enough to actually kill her. Just when he ran out of arrows, things seemed hopeless for him. So in a last effort, he threw his metal playing cards at the harpie, but discovered they can be lethal because they lodged right into the harpie's arm! So he kept throwing his whole deck at her, cutting off the feathers off her wings, forcing her to the ground, and finished off the harpie. After telling his father about the battle, Raphael told him about the existence of Greek myths and that he was a demigod, a son of a goddess of Olympus. At first Garret didn't believe him, but considering he was just attacked by a real life harpie, the hearing that he was a son of a goddess didn't seem that crazy. And Garret knew he was telling the truth because he knows his father and would tell if he was lying or not. Not to mention Garret had always known his father wasn't telling him something about his mother. He was shocked by this news but the shock didn't last long. Garret asked Raphael why he didn't aid him in the fight and he replied that he was told a certain force kept him from seeing what's really happening, so he will never know about an attack until it's already happening or has already happened. Raphael did not tell Garret of who this goddess is, because she herself told him not to tell Garret yet. He also told him that his cards were made of celestial bronze, so they were capable of harming the harpie. But seeing as Garret had a limited amount of cards and arrows, he gave his sword to Garret, saying that if he ever ran out of arrows or cards, he could use that.
At age 15 (3 days before his 16th birthday), Garret still trains in combat and killing. By this time he has made at least a few flawless assassinations with little aid from his father. Garret soon arrives in Seattle because his father got an invitation to a party from Alice. After the party Garret is outside Alice's home sitting at the base of a statue of a Spartan holding a spear, which Alice purchased for decoration, waiting for his father to take him back to the hotel they were staying at. When suddenly two hellhounds appear and attack him. Luckily he had his weapons with him so he could fight. During the battle, Raphael sees that Garret is struggling with something and runs to him, but the hellhounds destroys the Spartan statue and the spear impaled Raphael. When this happened, Garret becomes outraged and tries to kill the hellhounds with his playing cards. But during the battle, three demigods and a satyr, all of which looked about his age, sees the hellhounds and aids Garret to kill them. Garret tried to get help for his father to no avail as there were no doctors or hospitals nearby and the demigods and satyr are no help because nectar or ambrosia would kill Raphael anyways. Raphael tells him he needs more training now that he can't train him anymore. Garret did not understand and Raphael had little time to explain before he passes on and that he must go to a place called Camp Half-Blood and he gives Garret the letter his mother left him. The letter stated,
"To my son, first off, I must say I am sorry I never had a chance to see you myself. As your father has no doubt told you, I am a goddess of Olympus and you are a demigod. I don't want to say who I am just yet (I want it to be a surprise!), but you will find out soon. You have probably already been attacked by monsters who want to see you dead and I am willing to bet that you haven't exactly killed them with ease. Because of this, I can now tell you of a place where you can prepare for to battle these monsters called Camp Half-Blood. If a demigod and/or satyr arrives to come collect you, go with them, they will take you to camp. If no other demigod or satyr comes to help you, on the other side of this letter is a map that shows where this camp is. Go there and train yourself. Perhaps you will even be able to surpass your father in strength and assassination skills. (Yes, I know he was an assassin , he talks in his sleep) I will claim you as soon as you arrive. I wish you a good life and good luck. And who knows? Maybe we'll be able to talk to each other face to face someday. I'll be looking forward to that. ;) "
After reading this, Garret calls Alice and tells her of Raphael's demise. Though she was sad, she knew his death would happen someday. She tells Garret that she has a copy of Raphael's will, stating that if he dies, that Alice will become his legal guardian. She also know about Raphael's wife being a goddess and Garret being a demigod, as Raphael told her years ago. Knowing that going to camp will be important for him, she allows Garret to go to camp. After this, two of the demigods and satyr explain that they were there for the third demigod, who happened to attend the party as well, and that since Garret was a demigod too, they offer to escort Garret to camp along with the demigod they were there for, to which he agrees to. With that he escorted him to Camp Half-Blood with no trouble, and as he arrived at the gate, he was ready to be claimed and finally know who his mother is.
