Personality Camp Life Basics General Info Personality Hugh is a quiet person. He is reserved, especially when not at camp, more because of the need to maintain his cover. He is greatly ashamed of what he did in that fateful quest, despite not actually remembering any of it. His curse is a heavy burden he carries in secret, afraid of being thrown to the side or considered some kind of freak. Because of that, he avoids personal attachments, maintaining his friends at a safe emotional distance in an attempt to minimize the damage that his inevitable departure would cause. Still, he likes making friends when he goes to camp, it's the one time of the year when he leads a life that is almost normal. Life at Camp Hugh only really stays in camp during winter, doing some visits once in a while during the year. Staying in camp is a bit painful, seeing all the things he's been missing and having to keep his secret from everyone. He doesn't really keep friends through the year, but always makes a few during winter, despite not wanting to have anyone become attached. As many die along the road, he usually manages to go about camp without people questioning his lack of memory, even if he seems like a jerk sometimes. Being in Camp Half-Blood is a great relief, on the other hand. For someone who wakes up not knowing his own name, spending two months remembering all the small things he did is a huge relief. He enjoys having some time to himself, where he can watch movies, listen to music, read and still remember it the next day. It's also a great time to train, something he does dutifully. History Family Info Early Life/Firsts History Mina Maddock was born into a middle-class family, but quickly broke out of that sphere when she had her modeling breakout. Leaving her parents behind, she moved to a big apartment in New York as her career grew fast and Zeus quickly took notice. Approaching her after a photoshoot, they initiated an affair who would last for almost 4 months, when he moved on to other passions and left her pregnant. Mina seriously considered abortion, but ended up going through with the pregnancy. However, Hugh's birth caused a blow on her career she would take years to repair. Her resentment of the child was obvious, leaving him to be raised by nannies while his mother went all over the world to regain her former prestige. Hugh, however, wanted nothing more than to earn her praise, failing miserably and she grew more and more distant, too involved in her own world. Mina developed quite the drug problem and didn't really try to shield her son from that. Whatever childish adoration he had for her quickly faded away, making him a detached, quiet kid. When he was 8, she OD'd on coke and died a few weeks later from complications on the hospital. He got the news in school, which prompted Dane, the satyr watching over him, to take him to camp before things got too critical. Discovering that his father was a literal greek god, the boss of the gods on top of all, was reinvigorating for a kid who spent his childhood treated like trash by his mother. In Camp Half-Blood, Hugh shined and grew like never before. The following four years were the best of his life. Today, however, he doesn't remember any of it. At seventeen, three campers left on a quest to move an article, on a request of Melinoe for her children. They failed miserably, being ambushed and captured, prompting camp to send a rescue team due to the quest's sensitivity. Hugh was the leader of the rescue team, composed by two children of Mnemosyne, Anthony and Ralph, a son of Hermes, Tyler, and a daughter of Epiphron, Jocelyn, Anthony's girlfriend. At first, everything seemed to go great. They rescued the three campers, who were too weak to continue and were sent back. Ariadne had agreed to help them, giving Hugh the means to avoid the multiple traps placed to protect the artifact, and they progressed fast. Then, it happened. Hugh's temper exploded with Anthony, starting a big fight between the two, and in his distraction, Tyler and Ralph triggered a trap, summoning a Lydian Drakon. After Jocelyn broke the fight, they turned to go against the monster, but Hugh was too angry at Anthony to let go just like that. When a spray of poison was aimed at the other boy, Hugh just stood there, watching him be corroded. The drakon was clearly too much for them to handle, so when he found himself standing alone with Jocelyn, he acted on instinct, throwing her over his shoulder and flying away as fast as possible. Upon arriving into a safer place, Hugh was in shock over what he had done and Jocelyn was so enraged she could have killed him with a though. She yelled at the sky for justice, invoking the parents of her dead companions to curse the man who had them killed. And they were happy to oblige. An audience was held on Olympus, where Mnemosyne cursed him to eternal amnesia whenever he was not at camp, while Hermes gave him a restless, wandering spirit to keep him on the move. Hestia managed to convince Mnemosyne to restrict the curse in order to allow him to survive, having him remember his identity as a demigod, training, the location of camp, etc., aside from making his forgetfulness less acute when it came to practicalities of life. Zeus couldn't protect his son from the wrath of the two gods, but instead bound Jocelyn to him, so that whenever he returned to camp, she would know and return to inform him of what happened and who he really was. Children of Zeus have the ability to flow an electrical current into any sort of metal weaponry which will shock anyone it strikes; the current can only be maintained while they are holding the weapon. Children of Zeus can send an electric current through their body which gives them the ability to move extremely fast for a short time; however, they cannot have a weapon drawn so the speed is purely for evasion. Children of Zeus have the ability to emanate a field of electrical energy which stuns anyone nearby them for a short time; while maintaining the field, they cannot move. Children of Zeus are innately resistant to both electricity and lightning. Children of Zeus have the ability to hover or fly, however, the longer they fly the more it drains them. Children of Zeus have the ability to call upon the winds to speed their movements or attacks; this can also be used oppositely to slow the movements or attacks of others. Children of Zeus are able to call to their aid a flock of birds, that will then help to either defend or attack, but only for a short time. The amount of birds varies depending on the size and nature of the bird type. Small birds, such as pigeons, up to a dozen or more, however large predatory birds, such as eagles, only a couple at a time. Children of Zeus are able to cause a booming thunder to sound, that stuns an enemy for a few seconds. More Images Hugh owns a Celestial Bronze replica of the swords used in the 300 movie, commissioned to the Hephaestus' Cabin when he was deemed trained enough to own one.
