James: Nice to meet you Remi. Do you mind if I go first? James gathers a burst of wind and uses it to hurl himself into the air above Remi. A second burst changes his direction, causing him to plummet downwards, swords first.
Remi:Without looking up Remi murmurs a quick spell that causes him to disappear in a flash of fire and reappear on one of the floating isles
James: James's swords embed partway into the ground as James attempts to absorb the impact with a role. He groans as he gets to his feet, silently cursing the wave of heat that Remi's teleport created. Why'd it have to be fire? As he yanks his swords free of the ground his searches for Remi. Spotting him, James leaps into flight and slashes his swords through the air, summoning a mighty blast of boreal wind in attempt to dislodge Remi from his perch.
Remi:Remi is blasted off his feet by the wind only to hit a nearby tree. Slightly dazed Remi casts a spell that causes some of the fire from the pyres to form fireballs, roughly the size of beach balls and directs them towards James.
James: Dag blast it! James flies erratically, trying to avoid the blazing orbs, but the heat makes him sluggish. One catches on his jacket, breaking his concentration and causing him to spiral to the ground. James lands hard, rolling several times and putting out the fire. Just my luck. He pulls himself to his feet, muttering. The one thing I really can't stand and I come up against it in the semifinals? Why couldn't it be a Poseidon guy, or a Palaemon guy? He calls out to Remi. Who are you, a son of Apollo?
Remi: Remi walks to the edge of the island and looks down at James Nope, Hecate He then p'ulls out eight throwing knives, charges them with electricity, and starts throwing them at James
James: James jumps clear of the first few knives, calling on a whirlwind to block the rest. Hecate, huh? That's tricky. I really can't deduce your abilities from such a broad scope. James launches once again into flight, quickly soaring over Remi and landing several meters behind him. If I can't anticipate you, I guess I'll need to be unpredictable myself. James calls on another wind, this one acting on an island of higher altitude that James hopes is outside Remi's line of sight. Slowly, the island begins to accelerate towards Remi, propelled by the wind.
Remi: You really should learn more about your fellow demigods Remi casts another teleportation spell, dissappearing in a blast of flames and reappearing on top of one of the automon birds. As he appears he pulls out a bright blue potion and drinks it revitalizing his energy and magic. Children of Hecate can see in all directions at once, its impossible to use sneak attacks on us.
James: Well played, but doesn't that make you dizzy? James realizes that this may mean that if he can pull a completely invisible attack of some kind, it may be extremely effective as Remi most likely lacks experience dealing with unexpected situations. James's thought is cut short when the moving island smashes into his, sending both islands spinning in different directions. James quickly returns to flight to avoid falling off. Well, how about a head-on attack? James rushes Remi, blades dancing.
Remi: I am used to it, and they are just as ineffective Remi spins his staff using it to block one of the swords, but the other catches him on his right arm, stumbling back from the blow Remi casts a spell and sends a blast of thermokinetic energy at James using his left hand.
James: Ugh! James falls all the way to ground, landing hard. Blast! James crawls painfully to his feet, and summons a small cyclone of icy air around himself, rapidly cooling him and freezing his perspiration into a frosty coating that cracks as he moves. I feel like I've been working in a forge in Cairo... in the summer... in a heat wave... if Cairo was torn from the planet and hurled into the sun. He picks up one of his swords, but the other is stuck fast in the ground. He tries desperately to tug it out, but he is weary from the heat and flying.
Remi: You really should try and conserve your energy Remi g'oes back to the bird and casts a spell to make it come to life, and has it take off into the sky.
James: James lets go of the sword and turns towards the bird. Really? You're going to try and beat me with a bird? Wrong move Magic-o. James does his best to shake off his lethargy and thrusts his arm out towards the bird. A glacial blast of focused wind tears across the arena toward the automaton, threatening to freeze the machine and cause it to plummet to the ground.
Remi: Remi casts a levitation spell just as the blast hits the bird, the bird freezes up and falls to the ground. Oh no what am I going to do now Remi then casts a spell that causes the hanging vines to grow and attack James in an attempt to restrain him.
James: James slashes some of the vines to pieces with his single sword, but the rest entangle him. You have quite the... hmph... eclectic selection of powers there. He struggles in vain, trying to escape the vines, but they continue to wrap around him.
Remi: Remi floats down in front of James Yes, being able to cast spells gives me quite the array of abilities
James: James suddenly grins. Can you do this? A frigid gale roars into existence around James, carrying hundreds of tiny slivers of ice that slice through the vines like butter. James rapidly expands the diameter of the cyclone, hoping to pull Remi into its razor embrace.
Remi: Probably Remi casts a spell that heats up the air around him, causing most of the ice slivers to melt however, some do not and scratch Remi. However as you have already seen fire is much more my style Remi summons several more fireballs and sends them flying towards James
James: James is ready for him and quickly compresses his whirlwind into a small, intense dome of freezing wind that causes the fireballs to flicker out before they reach him. Oh come on, it's been fireballs and heat blasts from you this entire match. Did you think I'd never find a way to counter them? The dome dissipates. James rolls his shoulders, cracking his vertebrae. I was pretty tired, but I think I'm getting my second wind! Pun intended. James, now free of the vines, yanks his other sword free of the ground and lunges toward Remi, feinting a slash with his right, and instead slashing with his left.
Remi: Remi quickly shifts into his wolf form, his smaller size allowing the blades to pass harmlessly over his head, Remi then lunges towards James, returning to his human form in an attempt to land a right hook to James' head.
James: The blow connects, knocking James to the ground. James quickly rolls to the side to escape any follow up attacks before springing to his feet. Alright, you asked for it. Let's see how well you fight when you can't see! James snaps his fingers and a rush subzero wind begins to whirl around him, freezing the moisture in the air into large fluffy flakes. Have fun with my blinding blizza‒ James is interrupted loud ringing sound that echos throughout the arena. His mini-blizzard dies, spreading a fine layer of snow across a few meters of the ground. This match was timed? He asks, confounded. None of my others were. He shrugs and turns toward Remi. Well anyway, you are a premium opponent. I don't know about you, but when I wasn't sweltering I had a great time. He grins and holds his hand out to shake. Really though, this would have gone very differently if you didn't have so much blasted fire.
Remi: Yes it was a rather fun match Remi grasps James' hand, then releases it and leaves to head back to his cabin.
Remi moves on to the last round, congrats and good luck
