Star of the Sea Beautiful
Ethan Conners had bad luck. It ran in his family. Ever since his grandparents had run-off together without their parent's permission, it seemed that the worst of the worst would happen to the Conners. Their businesses closed, missed airplanes, important papers would suddenly disappear at the time of need. Ethan's parents had died in a freak accident when he was twenty. Despite this he tried to keep a good out look on life: he was young, smart, and darn-tootin' good looking. He thought his life had turned around when he saw Aglaea walking into his life.
Needless to say, after push came to shove, Ethan was left alone with a little girl. Sure It wasn't his dream plan, but she was a goregous little baby with bright blue eyes and a shock of white-blonde hair. He decided to name her Maribelle, and she was the light of his world. He settled down, moved to the suburbs outside of Atlanta, and set out to make a life for his little girl.
And he made her a life. She grew up surrounded by friends in a place where she could run around and be free. She trusted people unconditionally and was as cheerful as a little girl could be. Her life was blessed and she glowed with an inner-sparkle that seemed to attract people, almost like a sun pulling in orbiting planets through it's own gravity. But when she was twelve, the Conner's luck struck again. He father died in a freak accident on his way home from a business trip and she was left alone.
Having no immediate family, Maribelle was put into foster care. She was much too old for adoption, and her easy personailty made her an exemplary candiate for a foster home. Now, this isn't some sob story here. She was placed in a good home where she was treated kindly by her foster mother, Carol. Carol cared for Mari and the bright innocence that seemed to flow from her, and encoraged Maribelle to follow her dreams and fight for what she believed in, no matter the cost. Maribelle took that advice to heart.
While shopping in Atlanta one day, she was approached by an older man. He told her he worked for a modeling agency and that she had major potential in the industry. Carol, noticing the man, called Maribelle over; but, the man had already slipped a card with his 'information' on it to Maribelle. When she returned home she collected the money she had saved up over the years from random babysitting jobs and took a bus to Atlanta, calling the man on a payphone to take her to the agency. Carol checked Maribelle's room to find an empty bed and called the police, but by then it was too late. The 'man' Maribelle had met was long gone, traversing down the road in a black van, with Maribelle bound in the trunk. Maribelle had been taken. She was barely thirteen.
Her young looks and light was used to attract older men who favored girls on the younger side of the spectrum. She was dressed up in pretty dresses, rare jewels, and paraded around parties for lecherous men in other countries. She was used. For the next three years that they had her they keep her skinny, to hold onto her young-waif like looks; and keep her constantly drugged, to keep her from fighting. The spanish-speaking clients from central and south america would refer to her as their 'La Mariposa Rota' inspiring her nickname: Mari.
It wasn't until she got older that they brought her back to the United States.
She was sold to some man who was intrigued by the inner light she seemed to shine out. He seemed to have been collecting children who had caught his eye recently. Her constant stream of drugs had lessened, allowing her skills to sharpen enough to notice the man's children. They seemed to want to help them escape. She finally, after all of these years of abuse, saw her way out.

General & Misc Info
I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best
Mari is harsh and not trusting due to her years of abuse. She is quick on the attack, usually keeping a small dagger on her person at all times in case she should need it. She is generally not trustful of men and is nothing at all like the girl she used to be when she first entered the trade. Her innocence was shattered but the light that shined through her as a daughter still does. Now it on seems like a shattered mirror, she still shines, but instead of a beautiful beam, you see the broken reflections of scattered beams.
