Oh Seung-Hyun had a promising future laid out for her when she was 18 - good grades, a large sum of money behind her name due to working and she had a boyfriend who supported her every action. Of course, that all changed when she got pregnant after her 19th birthday and gave birth to a son, Si-Hyun, at 20. Her good grades began to count towards nothing, her money was spent on providing for her new son and her boyfriend soon left her, leaving her alone in the flat she was forced to rent with the remainders of her money. Quickly learning that she couldn't live on her diminishing funds, Seung-Hyun got a job as a waitress in a popular restaurant nearby where she received many tips.

Seung-Hyun and her son lived well for five years, missing becoming homeless countless times. It wasn't until Si-Hyun was 13 and developed a grave disease that the money Seung-Hyun was making was split between medication and medicinal necessities and the basic needs to live. A few weeks after her son's diagnosis, Seung-Hyun went into prostitution. For the next 5 years she did prostitution one and off when the money from her job just couldn't be stretched far enough. One night, in 1995 Seung-Hyun met a rich man who said he could give her any amount of money she wished for if she birthed his child. Sceptical at first but knowing the money was needed for Si-Hyun she agreed and within the night she left impregnated and with a large abundance of money. For the first time in years it'd seem that she could finally be safe from debts and money worries. On the 18th March 1996 she gave birth to a boy who she named Jae-Sung.

For the first few years of Jae-Sung's life was spent debt free but it soon declined when Seung-Hyun began to depend only on the money from the restaurant as she had given up prostitution after meeting Notus, finding no other need for it. But the need to care for two boys soon caught up to her and she found herself reverting to old ways. There would be many nights where she'd come home with a man or a more than one and bed them in her room, leaving a slowly recovering Si-Hyun to look after Jae-Sung. A lot of the men that were more frequent had tried to interact with Jae-Sung who'd run away to his room or his aunt, Hyo-Yeong's house. Due to the frequency of this, his aunt's home became his second home and he'd spend many nights there, so much to the point that Hyo-Yeong had unofficially adopted him.

One night, when Jae-Sung was nine, one of his mother's frequent customers had slapped Jae-Sung, calling him a liar when he said his mother didn't really love the man. In tears, Jae-Sung ran to his aunt's house, who, when she found out about it, called social services and demanded to have the house checked out. Within a week, Si-Hyun had been sent to live with his father, and Jae-Sung was adopted by his aunt who provided him with everything his mother couldn't. On his tenth birthday the two moved from Busan to Seoul.

Due to his encounters with the men his mother brought home, Jae-Sung closed up slightly and was never really social, but as he moved to Seoul and lived with his aunt, he became a bouncing and bubbly boy who couldn't stop speaking. For his aunt it was amazing to see a shy boy change into someone so active and social, a polar opposite. Since the transfer Jae-Sung became fairly popular in his new school.

Jae-Sung had a consistent life for the next two years until his 12th birthday when he was snatched away on his way from school. It happened when he had been walking home from a hip-hop dance group that ran at his school. Not five minutes before, he had parted with his best friend and took a known alley as a short cut. By the end of it, he had been grabbed forcefully by the collar of his shirt and blindfolded quickly. Before being knocked out, Jae-Sung remembered being pushed into something that sounded like the back of a van.

Weeks after being kidnapped Jae-Sung was forced to join a Seoul gang, notorious for it's killings across the city. One of the first things he learnt was to keep his mouth shut, and slowly, he reverted to his old closed up self. The gang itself was a complex ranking of skill, social class and the means in which they were recruited. Naturally, Jae-Sung was at the bottom of the pile being the youngest and having no skills when it came to executing gang-like affairs. One of the gang's major powers, a crime syndicate called Chan-Woo had taken an interest into Jae-Sung and often took him away from the other gang members to tutor him in academic lessons and lessons on how to kill. In reality, Chan-Woo was a satyr who had joined the crime scene in hopes to find young demigods. He quickly took to Jae-Sung being one and had began to train him in using a gun that was always loaded with celestial bronze bullets as he knew the demigod's first monster encounter was approaching. Fully aware that in Camp guns weren't allowed, Chan-Woo planned to transfer Jae-Sung to a sword when he reached a suitable age.

A year from his kidnap Jae-Sung experienced his first monster attack in the form of a harpy. Having been told by Chan-Woo to keep his weapon raised at all times, Jae-Sung was on alert. He had been instructed to keep the gang's drug source in a secluded building under careful watch. Usually he would've been with an older member, but this time he was alone. When he had been going over the grams of a substance, the harpy attacked, slashing at his shoulder. Dazed, Jae-Sung shot randomly in the direction that he saw the bird-like creature fly in, hitting it once in the wing, causing it to flee from the scene. That night Chan-Woo transferred Jae-Sung to his home town of Jeonju.

For the next three years Jae-Sung was taught how to use twin swords in an effective way that made him deadly. Going from the main base in Seoul to a smaller, more elite branch in Jeonju had been tough for Jae-Sung - many of members of the gang used him as a punching bag and there would be countless nights were Jae-Sung would cry himself to sleep. A few weeks after his 17th birthday Jae-Sung, accompanied by two of the Jeonju's leaders, went to an apartment complex where Jae-Sung would make his first kill and become an official member of the gang. The trio went up to the penthouse where Jae-Sung was told that the only people living there were a woman and her sick son. Breaking and entering Jae-Sung searched the rooms until he found the woman's bedroom where an aged woman with a teenage son sat on the bed, enjoying the TV. Shakily yet swiftly, Jae-Sung ended the two people's lives. Greeted by joyous faces, Jae-Sung was escorted back to the base in Seoul where he was accepted as a full member.

A few days from his first murder Jae-Sung had found out that the people he had killed weren't wealthy socialites, but instead his mother and Si-Hyun. Upon finding out, Jae-Sung threw his gun into The Han River, only keeping his twin swords who took the form of souvenir chopsticks. Following the discarding of his weapon, Jae-Sung fled from the gang in hopes to find his aunt once more. Chan-Woo, who had witnessed Jae-Sung detaching himself from the gang, smiled and told the other members that he had been killed in an accident with no further details. After weeks of searching, Jae-Sung came across his aunt's home and knocked on the door where a woman, considerably shorter than he remembered, greeted him with open arms and massive smile. From that day on, the two resumed a lost routine that they once shared.

One night, when Jae-Sung was out at a school meeting, Notus visited Hyo-Yeong and told her of Jae-Sung's parentage and what she should do if she loved him enough to be safe. He also told her what had happened to him during his kidnap and told her to forgive him due to the forcefulness and pressure that he was under. He left with no further words and left Hyo-Yeong to her decision. After weeks of thinking, Hyo-Yeong accompanied Jae-Sung to Camp where she let him go.
