Leila met Ryan's father in a Car Dealer, while she was applying. He went by the name Eric and 'worked' as a Car Technician. He took quite a liking towards her, so they got to know each other and eventually began dating. One night, both thought it was time to take it to the next level, so they did it, thus making Ryan. The next day when Leila woke up, she was alone. Looking to the small table besides the bed, there was a plate of pancakes, glass of orange juice, a ring and a note. Frowning, the mortal grabbed juice and began drinking it as she read the note, which said: Dear Leila, I am not who you think I am. Remember how I used to talk about the Greek Gods? Well, I'm one. I'm Hephaestus, to be honest. You are an amazing woman, so don't bring yourself down for me leaving you. Know that me leaving was necessary. Our child, which is probably developing inside you this moment, will be a half-blood. Once he becomes an adolescent, give him the ring and explain everything to him. As he grows up, please make sure he learns about Greek Mythology without him knowing who he truly is. There will come a time when he/she will see things that you can. Just know it is normal. When that time comes, send him to Camp Half-Blood, long Island, New York. Thank You, darling. Yours Truly, Hephaestus God of Forges. Respecting Hephaestus's wish, she passed the whole pregnancy happily. She had found out about being pregnant around two weeks after he left. When the time to give birth came, her whole family was there to support her. Ryan was born on a rainy October 23rd.
As he grew up, he was a happy and healthy child. He was apparently allergic to sea-food. The first four years of his life it was just Ryan, Leila and her family. Once he turned 5, Leila met a man named Eric (Not Hephaestus. A real Eric). Ryan hated him for an unknown reason to even Ryan himself. He simply hated him. He always cried, refused to listen to him, do anything or let Eric touch him. Leila eventually got pissed at her son, even if he was just 5. A year later, she came to the decision to put her six year old son up for adoption, as she was 'madly in love' with Eric. When she told her family the news, they were pissed at her. Leila's parents disowned her and decided to adopt Ryan before he was put in Foster Care. His grandparents knew he was a half-blood, as Leila had told them, as well as who was his father. They had also been handed the ring Hephaestus left Leila for Ryan. Since Ryan's cousin was also a Son of Hephaestus, they decided that he would train Ryan. Jacob, Ryan's cousin, was ten years older than Ryan. Three years later, while Ryan was 10, his lunatic birth mother and her husband tried to win Ryan's custody back. They had two daughters and needed someone to be their... servant. So basically, they just wanted Ryan, so he could be their servant -or slave- to do their dirty work. Ryan's grandparents luckily won Ryan's custody. A year later, while Ryan was 11, his grandfather died due to a heart attack. Three months later, his grandmother died to a brain collapse. It was really hard for Ryan, so he slowly began slipping into depression. A month before his grandmother died, though, she gave him the ring and told him it was from his biological father. From then on, Ryan never took it off.
Apparently, his grand-mother told his Aunt that he was a half-blood Son of Hephaestus, because when Ryan's grandma died, she immediately gave him a shelter. She took him in as her own, as well as Ryan's uncle and their 15 year old Daughter, Chloe. Chloe was Jacob's mortal half-sister. He then received help and was out of the depression he was in. Ryan then had a happy and peaceful year with his aunt, uncle and cousin. Jacob didn't live with him because he was married already.
It all went downhill once he turned 12.
His aunt and uncle, Kayla and Jeremy, decided it was time to tell Ryan of his heritage. Ryan had always suspected Greek Gods were real, so he wasn't THAT shocked, surprising Kayla and Jeremy. They then called Jacob and told him to come over, which he did. Jacob then examined the ring and once he found out how it worked, he taught Ryan. Now that shocked Ryan. Nevertheless, he accepted it. Jacob then proceeded to begin training Ryan, starting with a sword.
Six months after training and spending much time with Jacob, he was attacked by a dracaenae. Ryan was a bit shocked, but he expected to get attacked more, since his trainer's scent, as well as his, would attract more monsters than usual. He immediately summoned his sword and as soon as the monster lunged, he dodged. After doing the same over and over again, he lunged and swung the sword across it's neck, slicing it's head off and effectively turning it into dust.
Another six months after intense sword training, Ryan experienced a harpy attack. Using the two daggers Jacob gave him, he snuck behind the harpy, but couldn't take it by surprise. The harpy quickly noticed Ryan and lunged hungrily. Jacob shrieked, but activated his sword and swung it across the harpy's body multiple times, failing. On one of the tries, the sword came across the wings, damaging them greatly. Now that the harpy was heavily injured, he swung it across it's skin, turning it into dust.
While he was 13, he was attacked by a flock of Stymphalian Birds. Luckily he lived in New York and was nearby the subway. He ran to the subway and after sneaking past the guards, a train passed by him very quickly, distracting the four birds and giving Ryan time to run back home. After that, his training with the bostaff, sword and daggers intensified.
While he was 14, he encountered a hellhound in the woods while he camped with Jacob. He threw his daggers at the hound sharply. They each landed in each shoulder blade. He then activated his sword and lunged at the same time the hellhound did. The monster and the half-blood were just blurs fighting. One of the times Ryan lunged, he swung the sword across the hound's stomach, turning it into dust.
While he was 15, he encountered a giant scorpion. He then active his staff, not the sword. He whacked the scorpion in it's soft underside and then activated the sword, multiply stabbing it, yet dodging its attacks at the same time. Minutes later, the monster had turned into dust. Deciding he was old already, Jacob intensified the training to a harder level.
At 15 and a half, he was attacked by yet another monster. A flock of three stymphalian birds. This time, he was attacked on his way to the subway to get to a friend's house. He just increased his speed, as he was almost there. Reaching the station in time, he distracted the birds and was able to get to his friend's house on time.
While he was 16, he was attacked by a fire breathing horse in his aunt's backyard. Now this way more tricky, as he didn't have a shield to protect himself. Activating his sword, he ran to the forest, which was close. He dodged every attack and when the fire tried to turn him into a human torch, he used the trees to shield himself. Using his daggers, he sharply threw them to the horse, hitting it's to back legs. He then ran to the horse and swung the sword across it's neck, turning it into monster powder.
While he was 17, he encountered yet another harpy. This time, the harpy was inside Jacob's house. How did it manage to get in? He had no idea. He then decided to do something different. Since he was watching Jacob's house while he was in a business trip, he snuck into Jacob and his wife's room and took his bow and quiver. Jacob had told him about the bow, but it was for emergencies. Jacob had told him the first time he went to Jacob's house after training. He then lured the monster into the backyard and climbed to the roof with not much difficulty. The harpy was flying to the roof, as well, but it reached Ryan first, making him fall to the ground. Groaning, he notched an arrow and aiming at the wings, he released. He injured the wings after another arrow and proceeded to use his sword to kill it. He lunged and swung at it's neck and stomach, turning it into dust.
At 18, Ryan decided to head to camp, wanting a change of environment. While on his way, he was attacked by a dracaenae. He quickly summoned his sword as the thing lunged. Dodging every attack and trying to lunge at the monster, Ryan twisted his ankle, making it harder to kill the dracaenae. Just as the dracaenae lunged to finish it's meal off, he swung the sword across its stomach, cutting the body in half, and turning it into dust.
He had already said his good-byes to his aunt, uncle and Chloe, and was now in front of Camp Borders, saying his good-byes to his good ol' cousin, trainer and half-brother, Jacob. After Jacob left, he was attacked by another two harpies. Chuckling, he limped three steps backward and was inside camp. He then limped over to the Camp Leader and explained everything. The camp leader quickly led him to the infirmary to get him healed. After that, he led Ryan to the Hephaestus Cabin, where he now resides.
