Personality[]

For the most part, Ryver is a very easy girl to get along with. Even with her ADHD, she is considered fairly calm. She's very friendly and can make friends pretty easily with just about anybody. Not to make a pun, but she goes with the flow most of the time. But, she does have her moments. When you get her angry, watch out. Her rage is something you do not want to experience. And most of the time, she doesn't remember any of her actions when she snaps. She is loyal to no end, doing anything for anybody who has given her friendship. She can also be very protective over those she loves. But, the closer you get to her, the more you notice her sarcasm and witt. She uses it heavily on those she's closest to, meaning no harm.

History[]

Marina's parents were from Havana, Cuba, but moved to Belmar, New Jersey of all places way before she was born. Her parents were quite rich by the time they had her. They had a beach house, meaning Marina could visit the beach whenever she wanted. She was always quite fascinated by the ocean. The way it was so beautiful, yet so dangerous. Knowing it could be completely calm one minute and then a complete hurricane the next. She took swims in the ocean daily and aspired to be an Olympic swimmer. She was quite good at this, too, getting medals all the time in high school swim meets.

Finally, when she was 18, she got her chance to try out for the Olympic swim team. She trained every day for hours, sunrise to sunset, using the ocean as her preferred method of doing so. Her parents rarely ever saw their daughter. Only for lunch and dinner. One day, she was training as usual when she felt like someone was watching her. She ignored this, remembering that it wasn't really a private beach, so of course there would be people there. But the feeling continued and when she finally looked over, she saw a man. He had jet black hair and stunning green eyes. She didn't know why she was drawn to him, but she walked over.

The first thing he asked was what she was doing. He was at the beach pretty often and always saw her swimming. She told him her story and he seemed amused. He finally asked her name and she gave it to him, asking his in turn. He told her Arroyo and she was interested. She had never heard the name, but she thought it didn't quite suit him, but she decided to not question it as he invited her to a bar. She got drunk and it's pretty explanatory what happens next. It was a perfectly cliche bar story that she wouldn't remember in the morning.

Months passed and she didn't know she was pregnant until she was 3 1/2 months along. She decided, for her baby's safety, she would lead her boyfriend, a full-blood Cuban named Ruben, to believe that the kid was his. He fully believed her and was ecstatic to be having a child. That is, until she was born. Ruben wasn't there for the birth at Marina's request. He found this odd, but went with it. She gave birth to a healthy baby girl she decided to name Ryver Starr Sambora. A letter appeared from Arroyo, who explained that he was really the god of the sea, Poseidon. Most people wouldn't believe this, but she did. There was also a necklace for Ryver, a bottle with sand in it laced in a gold chain. Engraved on the bottle was her name with waves underneath.

Ruben was finally allowed to visit "his" daughter once they were asleep, once again at Marina's request. He came in and picked up the baby, marveling at how beautiful she was. He cooed to her and spoke to her. When she opened her eyes, he knew she wasn't his. Nobody in his or Marina's family had green eyes. This drove Ruben crazy and he even tried to drown the baby, shocked and frustrated that she wasn't dying. When he pulled her out, she wasn't even wet, which freaked him out. He demanded answers from Marina, who just told him that the father was a random man she met at a bar one night.

Ryver noticed she was different early on. She couldn't read well, for she had dyslexia. She couldn't pay attention, for she had ADHD. Her mother refused the school's attempts to get her to take medication for the ADHD, causing Ryver to get detentions quite a bit. She never really had any friends. It wasn't any better at home, though. Her mother and step-father had had a son of their own named Richard. Ruben treated Richard like the golden child, yet beat the crap out of her. She wasn't allowed to ask for anything that her mother gave her, which was very little because of Ruben.

She never had a set school. They would get close to figuring out she was being beaten and they pulled her out, putting her in yet another boarding school. She never felt safe, even when she was rooming with 3 other girls who seemed to be okay with her. Finally, the summer she turned 9, Marina gave her up for adoption after she was attacked by a harpy and handed her the necklace Poseidon provided at her birth. She was adopted by a family in Long Island. They raised her on a horse farm and regularly took her to the ocean. Very early on, she noticed she could do things with water that others couldn't. It seemed to bend at her will, go wherever she wanted it to. She could swim and not get wet and stay underwater for as long as she wanted, being able to breathe. She never told the family, for she thought she was a freak. She also never told them that she was attacked by monsters pretty often and she couldn't figure it out. Luckily, she accidentally came across that her necklace could turn into a sword, so she's been able to defend herself.

The attacks have gotten more common the older she has gotten, so a friend of hers, who turned out to be a satyr, helped her get to camp.
