History[]

Parents meeting: Emily Archer was a beautiful young woman. She lived on the west coast of California. She was a very skilled surfer and spent most of her days at the beach. One day, she entered a surfing competition. She was only matched by one other competitor. His name was John Tyler. John won the competition, with Emily placing in second. Afterwards, the two became friends, surfing together for the next few weeks. Then, they became more than friends until one day they had an affair. When Emily discovered that she was pregnant, John confessed. He told her that he was a greek god (which he had to demonstrate) and that he could not stay with her. He left her to raise Shayne alone. 9 months down the road, Emily gave birth to Shayne.

Early life: Emily moved to New York, leaving her old life behind her. She picked up work whenever she could, and still they struggled. Shayne went without many things a normal child would have. His early childhood was difficult. He grew up in a terrible neighborhood in New York, constantly being jumped and chased. This, however, made him who he is today. It made him a survivor. He had been in enough fights that he was actually surprised if he made it a week without an incident. He still had bruises that reminded him that he had to fight to survive. His mom struggled to support them bit they still scraped by. Unlike most demigods, he didn't have dyslexia. He did have ADHD though. He excelled in school but didnt participate much so must people didn't recognize his intelligence.First Encounter: Shayne's first encounter came when he was 11. He had just gotten out of school and was walking through the schoolyard, when Darin came running towards him. That was strange because Shayne hardly new him. He was an odd boy, who hung out by himself. Shayne had never even spoken with him, but he always eyed Shayne suspiciously. He ran straight into him, and he would've fallen if he hadn't seen Darin coming. Darin seemed worried, maybe even scared. He pointed to the sky and for a moment Shayne thought the kid was crazy. He was pointing at a flock of birds. "Um...yeah so?" Shayne asked. "We gotta go. Come on man just trust me." Darin pleaded. He didn't wait for an answer, taking off down the sidewalk. Shayne didn't understand but he wanted to know why this strange boy who was always so calm, had suddenly fled the school because of some birds. He raced after him. He easily matched Darin's speed and began to ask "why..." before he felt a sharp pain in his right calf. He stumbled and fell. He checked his leg and found a sharp feather stuck in his calf. He yanked it out, confused. How could a feather be sharp? He

looked up at Darin for an answer. He seemed to understand. "Stymphalian birds. Their beaks'll tear right through ya. Oh and they can shoot feathers." Shayne sighed. "Thanks for the warning." Darin helped him up and handed him a dagger. Shayne took it and unsheathed it. It was about a foot long, hilt included and emmited a faint glow. The blade was golden colored to which darin explained. "Celestial bronze. One of the few materials that can slay a monster." Shayne still didn't understand but he took off with darin, holding the dagger. They ran another block but the birds were nearly on top of them. Just when they were about to be swallowed up by the swarm when Shayne took off down an alley. He yelled insults at the birds getting most of them to follow. He didn't know what he was doing but he knew he had to do something. And then it hit him (metaphorically speaking). He had read something about these stymphalian birds. Something about Hercules' sixth labor and...bells! That was it! If he could create a similar noise then maybe he could defeat these death pigeons. And then he got an idea. With a burst of energy, he sprinted towards a street light, banging his dagger against it until the noise of metal on metal filled the air. To his astonishment, the birds parted, flying crazily about. In the commotion, darin caught up to him and together they ran to Shayne's house. When they got there, darin explained that he was a satyr and that he was Shayne's protector. "You're a demigod," he said. Shayne interrupted "woah, woah, woah. How come I'm just now finding out about monsters." So darin explained how monsters could track demigods by their scent. "The gangs in this neighborhood that you're so fond of. Their scent covers yours. But as you age your scent gets stronger." The two went home hoping for better luck tomorrow. Getting to Camp: Finally, at age 13, it happened. Shayne had had one or two monster attacks since the Stymphalian birds but Darin had always helped him. But soon, darin wouldnt be able to protect him. It was late, the sun was setting, and the street lights were just beginning to flicker on. He had been at his friends house and had lost track of time. Now he just hoped nobody took interest in a lone 13 year old on the streets in the dark. Of course, as always, things went wrong. A gang of large boys, well older than Shayne, approached from the other side of the street. He had hoped that theyd just pass by without a problem, but no. They formed a circle around him, trapping him. He balled his fists, prepared to fight. And that's when the gang changed. They grew a few inches, their muscles thickened, and their faces became ugly and disfigured. "Laistrygonians!" Darin exclaimed. Darin seemed to come out of nowhere. He distracted the gang and Shayne slipped away. He took off running but Darin caught up. "Shayne. This is getting out of hand," he said. He told him about camp halfblood and that they had to go there. They went back to shaynes house where his mom told him as much as she could about his father. When she finished, darin recommended that Emily drive them to Camp. The Laistrygonians would be searching for them. They couldn't risk traveling on foot.Emily drove them to an area with no sign of a camp. Shayne said goodbye to his mother and took off with his protector towards halfblood hill. As they climbed half blood hill, three tiger sized hellhounds shot out of the bushes. Shayne ran to the beach where a small object caught his eye. It was a ring. Strangely enough, he had a sudden interest in the seemingly random piece of jewelry. He fought back his urge, and told himself, "Don't pick it up." But his urges got the best of him. "This is stupid," he

muttered, but he scooped up the ring. It felt warm and emitted a faint glow. It was golden in color, and had silver waves etched on both the inside and outside. Engraved on the outside was the word τυφωνας (Tyfónas). Typhoon. Howd he know Greek? He placed the ring on his finger but nothing happened. Frusterated, he yanked it off. Suddenly it grew into a full length Greek sword, its name now engraved on the hilt. A trident decorated the upper part of the hilt. It glowed with enticipation. One of the hellhounds had pursued him to the beach and bared its teeth. It lunged. He sidestepped and slashed the hound, leaving a large gash in its side. The hound snarled and turned toward him. It leaped into the air but Shayne quickly ducked. However, its claws still mamaged to catch him as it flew over him, leaving 3 long cuts on his back. He stood up but immediatly sank down to his knees. When he finally managed to get back on his feet, the hound pounced, knocking him on his back, pinning him down. It raked its claw across his face leaving a scar that went vertically through his right eye (not damaging his eye). Luckily, his sword arm was free. He jabbed the hound defiantly in the neck

over and over until it collapsed. Upon returning to half blood hill he found darin standing over two hellhound carcasses. An older boy stood next to him with a bow. Shayne assumed he was a sentry. Darin met Shayne with a grin. Then he noticed the sword and frowned. "Whats that?" Shayne shrugged. "Some sword. Found it...on the beach." Darin shook his head. "No. Its no coincedence. Its a gift- from your father. Celstial bronze. It'll kill a monster but it wont harm a mortal." Shayne touched the tip of his new blade- although he wasn't sure why- and Tyfónas changed back to ring form. He slipped the ring on his finger. "I'm not feeling so good man," he said before collapsing on the ground. When he woke up, he was in the infirmary. He'd made it.

His primary weapon is a sword called Τυφωνας (Tyfónas) or Typhoon. It is a Greek, celestial bronze blade, about 3 feet long and leaf shaped. In its dormant form, it is a celestial bronze ring with silver waves. His secondary weapon is a celestial bronze dagger that he keeps in a scabbard around his waist. He later names it Παλιρροια (Palírroia) or Tide.
