Forums: Index > Debates > Sock Policies and IP Checks

Ok, so as many know we have strict policies on this wiki about sock accounts, especially with our rules and character limits, we've had multiple occasions of users abusing multiple accounts to get around these  limits. However, I found out today that Wikia will be cracking down on reasons they allow IP checks. They will only check for shared IP's in matters that break Wikia's ToU policies, they will no longer do IP checks for wiki's regarding any rule breaks that are specific to that wiki.

This could be a problem for us in handling people who make socks to get around our rules, Flame suggested a new policy and some type of system in place where we expect "x" amount of "evidence" which is then voted on by the wiki as to whether suspected users will be deemed socks.

Now something like this could get hinky, so before even considering bringing any ideas to vote, I want to hear input from other users.

Bach already explained my proposition. Sockpuppeting is a confirmed and fairly consistent issue on the wiki, and we can't have people avoiding rules left and right.
