 – "I believe in second chances."

At the archery range, Nick began practicing, shooting arrows at the targets. Underneath his breastplate, he had his orange camp half-blood shirt. He was wearing his usual jeans paired with his red chucks.

He closed his other eye as he pulled the bowstring farther along with the arrow. He was estimating the distance and the force he had to use so he could aim for a bullseye. Right when he released it, zap! The arrow was shot. He ran to check the target, where the arrow hit. Again, he missed. It was so close though. He just found it difficult because archery wasn't his forte. He just sighed and went back to his position to try again.

Oh Minyeol ~ Daughter of Boreas

"That's the thing about pain. It demands to be felt."
She's been in the Archery for long just watching this guy who sucks at Archery. She's been itching to teach him his posture and it's not just about closing his other eye. duh. She thinks but then at his last attempt, Damn. This is it. She marches towards Nick and shoving him away from the target as she shoots toward the guy's arrows slicing them to half before she even hit in bulls eye. "Sorry. I just had to do that." she sighs as he grip on her bow softens. Like omg, you'd be a disgrace in the family of archers if you kept being like that! <- she wanted to say but, she kept her cool as this is not a right time to scream at this guy.

Character's Powers

Powers of a Daughter of Boreas:

  1. Children of Boreas can create an incredibly cold wind around an opponent, the wind will follow them no matter what for a short time. The wind would make the user feel as if it’s 15 degrees (fahrenheit), distracting them and making them vulnerable to attack.
  2. Children of Boreas have the ability to conjure up to ten long lances of ice which can surge forward and impale an opponent.

  1. Children of Boreas have the ability to create a dome shaped torrent of wind, roughly two or three times the size of the user, which can be used to block attacks for a very short time.
  2. Children of Boreas can heal themselves by using ice, absorbing frozen energies which can freeze molecules, renew damaged cells, and also stop bleeding. This can be used to quickly heal minor wounds and slowly heal major, but not fatal, wounds. Ice healing only affects children of Boreas, Khione and Ice/Snow Nymphs as they are the only ones who can draw power from the snow.

  1. Children of Boreas are inherently resistant to the cold, including hypothermia and frostbite.
  2. Children of Boreas are inherently stronger during the winter or on any cold days.
  3. Children of Boreas always emit an aura of coldness, making others around them feel slightly cold. The user can shut it off for a long time if they choose to.
  4. Children of Boreas can turn water into ice or make it severely cold with a cool breeze.

  1. Children of Boreas have the ability to hover or fly, however, the longer they fly the more it drains them.
  2. Children of Boreas can apply the power of 3rd or 4th degree frostbite to an opponent’s weapon, freezing it to the point that it becomes fragile and easily breakable. It only lasts for a short time, after which the weapon reverts to it’s normal temperature.
  3. Children of Boreas can create armor and weaponry out of ice. The larger the size and quantity of the weapons, the more energy is drained. They can also infuse existing weapons with ice in order to make them stronger.
  4. Children of Boreas can call upon the icy winds in order to speed up their movements and attacks.

3 Months After a Character is Made

  1. Children of Boreas can create a hail storm, with up to baseball size hail for a short time. The storm will produce powerful, freezing winds. The hail will fire in whatever direction the user wishes, the user will be somewhat drained once the storm subsides.

6 Months After a Character is Made

  1. Children of Boreas can create an ice dragon lacking wings, a semi-living construct creature of ice that could be called an ice drake, no larger than 2 to 3 times the size of the user, to fight for them for a short time. This drake attacks with frost breath which can damage and freeze opponents. While the Drake is active, the user has a hard time moving and afterwards must rest between making another one.

9 Months After a Character is Made

  1. Children of Boreas can shed their flesh and transform their bodies into pure cold air which grants them temporarily immunity from attacks as well as drastically enhances their current ice powers. This ability only lasts for a short time and the user will be left heavily drained and unable to move for some time and could possibly faint after the ability dissipates.

  1. Children of Boreas are often ambidextrous, a trait they share with Notus' children.
  2. Children of Boreas have a natural preference for places in the Northern Hemisphere, the further North the better. They also prefer anywhere cold in general.
  3. Children of Boreas are naturally skilled at ice fishing.
  4. Children of Boreas make excellent navigators due to their ability to always find North.

  • Nick: Okay, that is the girl he likes. How in the world did he manage not to give up yet? He was taken aback by her actions, of course. He did not even realize she was there before his arrow was sliced into half. He just stared at the lifeless bow and looked back at her. "I'm sorry... may I ask why did you do that?" He did not mean to sound rude but he was merely asking, curious why she had to do that that it made him scratch his head in confusion.
  • Minnie: "I'm sorry.. may i ask if i ever blinked and closed my other eye while slicing your arrows on the target that missed the bullseye?" she imitated his innocent face but she was eager to help this hopeless guy so she pat his back indicating for him to fix his posture "stand straight." she ordered sternly
  • Nick: "But don't archers close the other--huh?" He was stopped when he felt a pat on his back. He was all the more confused why she was doing this. "Uh... okay?" He stood up straight just as she told him. He looked back at her, waiting for the next instruction.
  • Minnie: "They do, but most of us do it when our target are very distant from us or when it tends to move too much but here you see" she points at the target "I don't even call it long range." she holds his shoulders to indicate that he needs to lower his ribs in order to be balanced. Then she taps Nick's feet with hers. "Move, stand at a right angle to the target, with the tips of your toes against an imaginary line pointing at the center of the target." She points as if she's creating a line. " Your feet should be shoulder's width apart, stradling the shooting line. " she coaches
  • Nick: Thank the gods. Is this his new year present from them? What did he do to deserve this? To anyone else, this might seem like torture having such a strict instructor but for him, it was somewhat a taste of heaven. It didn't matter if she wasn't being sweet as long as it was her he's with, he's okay. He could feel his heart beat go faster when her hands touched his shoulders. He couldn't help but be stiff in her presence. Again, he moved like she said. "Like this?" he asked while he looked at his feet that moved apart from each other at shoulder's width. He was feeling so dumb. This couldn't have happened if only he was sparring with a sword but he could consider this a blessing in disguise.
  • Minnie: She released an exasperated sigh "What the hell is making you so stiff?" she says with her forehead creased and her eyes kind of widened
  • Nick: "Oh--" He was surprised it was too obvious so he shifted his shoulders and stretched his neck a bit. "Sorry. I'm just not really used to this. But I will be, I promise," he assured her so she won't be disappointed. This was it. This was the chance for him to prove himself to her. May the gods be in his favor. He cleared his throat. "And then?" he asked, waiting for further instructions. He looked at her then a small smile formed on his face though he was hoping she didn't see that. He just couldn't help but think how adorable their height difference was. He almost wanted to pat her head.
  • Minnie: It may seem that this girl is short but once she noticed his smile, she flicked his forehead. "Smile at me when you have something to show." she's really underestimating him but she believes that it's the best way to make them learn. "Nock arrow UNDER the nocking point on the string. Listen for the sound of a "snap" as arrow connects to the string. Index feather AWAY from the bow"
  • Nick: "Ow!" He quickly put his hand on his forehead. That was one painful flick. His forehead must have had a red mark by now. "Okay, sorry," he said sincerely as he looked back at the target to bring his focus back. He nocked the arrow and did the rest of her instructions. "Alright," he said.
  • Minnie: "Place your fingers in such a way, that you "hook" the string with your index finger above the nock, and middle and ring finger under the nock. Do not use little finger." she said before lifting her own bow and arrow and doing what she said as a reference for Nick "Like this."
  • Nick: How many years has he been in camp? Two? Three? And yet it was just today that he finally realized how wrong he was in placing his fingers on the arrow. He watched as Minnie demonstrated and tried to copy what she did, looking back and forth at her. "Okay."
  • Minnie: "Hook the string at the first groove. Make sure to maintain a deep hook" she says more calmer now as she was focusing on her own movement now rather than Nick's as she wants to be sure that she's teaching the right thing for him
  • Nick: "Done," he replied when he finished. She seemed very serious about teaching him and it made him think, Hey, she isn't so bad. She has her good sides too. "What next, ma'am?" Her seriousness was too contagious.
  • Minnie: "Set your bowhand on the grip on the inside of your life line, on the meaty part of your thumb. Thumb points toward target. Nock arrow UNDER the nocking point on the string. Listen for the sound of a "snap" as arrow connects to the string. Index feather AWAY from the bow. Relax your fingers. The back of your hand should make an angle of 45 degrees. The tips of thumb and index finger may touch each other in a relaxed way." she shifts her head to see his hand "You need to be relaxed. If you're too stiff and always panicked. Things won't work for you. Also, stop calling me Ma'am." she finds the call uncomfortable
  • Nick: She was being quite technical and he couldn't follow much but thankfully, she was demonstrating so he could do the same thing. "Sorry," he said with a slight chuckle. "I got carried away a bit. Besides, I also don't know what to call you." He felt quite ready to hit the target. "Now do we shoot?" he asked.
  • Minnie: This guy isn't bad after all, however the daughter of Boreas is in no way interested to make friends or any social connections to anyone at the moment-- she relaxes in a way to teach him accordingly but the mere position she's in reminds her of Chloe-- her mentor a daughter of Athena that left her. Just left her. She closes her eyes to roll it in discreet before looking at his shoulders. She keeps his arm down, leveling it down to his shoulder. Moving on to his elbows, she holds it in to place where it's away from the string. "Remember to keep this away from the string. If ever it isn't bow string slap hurts as hell." she sighs
  • Nick: "Got it." He nodded firmly and concentrated on the arrow but her presence didn't much help as it made him conscious and a part of him wanted to impress her so badly. He felt more confident this time so as he measured the distance from his place to the target and the force he was using to pull, he breathed in before finally releasing the arrow. He prayed to the gods so hard that he hit the bullseye. And it did not take much time before they answered. "Yes!" he exclaimed to himself, pumping his fists in the air as he laughed in victory.
