'Trigger Warning: Self-Harm/Death '
Born in the late 1950s [Gumi, Gyeongsangbuk-do Korea] as the result of Bae Jimin and Jung Bora's highschool courtship, Bae Soerin was officially considered an 'error' and or a 'mistake' (Due to them not expecting the child and deciding not to abort her) to the world. That never impeded this girl however. Growing up, she didn't actually mind the slander and the negative attention but kept them as a reminder in her head to always try a tad bit harder. Soerin was soon perceived as a suck-up as she tried extremely hard to make friends. Rumours of what would happen if you were friends with her made life worse for her. The people feared that she would force herself on them, causing a long life of paying bills and becoming an adult early due to herself being pregnant. Making only two best friends, she didn't worry about all the malicious comments by pushing all plans/ideas and sadness into schoolwork. Even if she wasn't the best student at school, no one could say she wasn't creative. Being detested just because her parents had her at a young age in a small town never seemed to faze her as a result of having a loving stay-at-home mother and a industrious father who worked at a factory that made toys.
Being a legacy at her local high school, she decided to be just like her mother and become a cheerleader. Her mother had to quit shortly before having Soerin as she knew a pregnant girl would never make it far in cheerleader, if any sport at all. Even if everyone hated her, she was still one of the best cheerleaders her highschool had ever seen, there was no arguments about it. Pride was a strong enemy against Soerin however and the citizens of the small town continued to go against her and try to critic her on her imposing, eye-catching performances. Putting all her time and dedication in it, she cared so much for the squad and really wanted to do a great job on something that she hopefully wouldn't get cruel commentary on.
She and the rest of the team worked hard to get to the finals, practicing day and night as if they were kpop idols. That's when of course, her father died from a factory explosion. One of the new workers (who disliked and would say hateful comments to all for no reason) there slipped a bomb in a toy and it wiped out the entire factory (Yes, this could happen. It was the 1950s, bombs could be slipped without being noticed as compared to 2016.). This soon made the girl quit cheerleading as she was focused on trying to make herself and her mother cope with the death. Due to not getting properly over her father, she soon cut herself for her bond with her father was too strong to just forget. The girl and her mother had major heartache for months. People showed their sympathy for the family and although they didn't gossip as much about the family as they did, they still showered the family in insults quietly.
Time passed and it was easier to move on for the Bae family. Soerin and her mother both got the proper help they needed by going to a therapist. Although it was a lot of money for them to spend, it was worth it as they finally accepted the fact that he (the father) wasn't coming back. The person who slipped the bomb was caught trying to leave South Korea, Soerin was allowed back into the squad for her tricks and kicks were too great and their old blissful life kept them going despite missing a vital member of their family. Trying to get enough money to pay the bills was excruciatingly difficult but with the help of Soerin's after school job and her mother working as a maid in a hotel for the time being, they worked together to make sure they don't completely lose everything.
That was until the town decided they were going to tear down the community garden. The community garden was once where Jimin and Bora had gotten married, it meant a lot to the two as that's also where they had first met. Their favourite flowers, Hibiscus Syriacus (The national flower for South Korea), were there which was something the family valued very much as it was shown as good luck and "good life" to them. The family couldn't just let that go. The two ladies began small protests and Soerin even went as far as to chain herself up to the gates of the garden. Nothing would work, the town was set on destroying the beautiful garden. Finally, on the day the truck was coming to knock it everything down [the columns, the benches, etc.], Soerin did some quick thinking that would end up costing her life and start a chain of events.
As the huge truck barreled forward, the young brunette ran in front of it before it could even reach the grass. To understand this, it would have to be noted that the truck was big and being so far in the readiness to destroy it made it viable to not have possibly noticed a young girl running forward to keep it from harming the garden. Soerin later died after this, basically being crushed by the weight of the truck. Realizing that everyone she cared for was dead, her mother bought a gun, went under the wood and the all the caution signs of where the garden used to be and shot herself.and her mother killed herself due to it, not having anyone to be with her anymore. The garden was re-made and kept after this, the citizens forgetting about the movie theatres that was to be built there as the family's drama was something that was quite fascinating compared to just tearing down a garden for some theatre. It also named "The Garden of 'Bae'" as to remember the deaths of the Bae family (despite the father not dying there).
Persephone, the goddess of the flowers and spring, heard about this down in the underworld and grew very gloomy. The girl had a unpleasant life, and yet risked getting killed just to save a garden of flowers. The goddess felt empathy and compassion for her and decided to make her one of her flower nymphs. Keeping her a secret from Hades and Demeter when Soerin was helping her in the underworld and the time when she went back up to go see her mother, Persephone brought her down to Camp Half-Blood to avoid Hades and take care of the bed of Hibiscus flowers near her cabin.
