Name: Caine Mckenzie
Joseph Morgan

Age: 16

God Parent: Acheron

Mortal Parent: Angie Mckenzie

Appearance: See right

Personality: Caine is incredibly focused, not dropping a task until it is complete. He also has trouble forming close attachments to people since he discovered at an early age that everybody he loved has been harmed in some way. His most enduring trait though is his bloodlust and sadistic nature. Caine will go out of his way to cause another person pain, even if a quick death is the most logical method.

History: Angie Mckenzie was a tortured soul. She was bullied relentlessly throughout her school years, she had developed a drug addiction by the age of 15 and her parents were murdered in a mugging gone wrong when Angie had only just graduated from high school. From that moment on, she fell into a spiral of depression, abusing drugs more frequently and self-harming on a regular basis. It was this addiction to pain that attracted the attention of Acheron. The idea of such a tortured soul was fascinating to him and so he visited the surface world (something he rarely did) at the dead of night, in order to introduce himself to Angie. He entered her apartment and quickly introduced himself as a counsellor for her. A flimsy excuse, but Angie's drugged-up state meant that she did not question it. Acheron did not waste any time in trivialities and began flirting with her, getting extremely physical extremely fast. He even told her about his godly heritage, believing that would add to his appeal. He made sure to touch every self-inflicted cut on her body, but Angie was just happy that somebody 'understood' her, and reciprocated his advances, until they ended up having sex on the apartment floor. Angie woke up the next morning to an empty room. She originally thought that she had hallucinated the encounter with Acheron, but it was only when she found herself pregnant that she realised what happened. She remembered what he told her and would dwell on it for the rest of her life.

Caine was born on the very same apartment floor that he was conceived, with his mother not wanting to go to a hospital out of fear that they would take him away from her. Angie devoted herself to becoming a good mother to Caine. She saw him as a second chance at life. She wanted to be the mother that was stolen from her. During her pregnancy, she stopped harming herself and went cold turkey from drugs. It was near impossible but Angie did it to prove herself. To give Caine a good life. Or she did want that before her post-natal depression began. After so much hardship in her life, it was cruel that she would succumb to such a rare mental illness. Caine grew up in a life opposite to that which Angie originally desired. He lived in squalor, often going unwashed and unfed for days at a time. His mother was often unresponsive, muttering about Acheron and calling Caine a letdown and a failure. But Caine still loved Angie unconditionally. She was his one connection in the world and he knew that she loved him deep down. When he was 6, he worked for money to buy his own food and resorted to stealing when things got drastic. He would always give half of the food he bought to his mum, because on most days she was unable to look after herself. This continued until he was 8, when a teacher made a home visit to talk about Caine's poor grades. When she saw the state of the apartment, she made a call to social services and Caine was taken away from his relapsed, unresponsive mother.

From that point on, he was in foster care. He initially tried to make friends but found that his social skills weren't exactly up to scratch. But he tried, until he received soome heartbreaking news. The police had found Angie Mckenzie dead in her apartment. They said it was a suicide, but Caine couldn't believe it. He couldn't believe that his mother, his only relative, would hurt him in this way. He was usually resistant to physical pain, which made him all the more unprepared for the emotional pain that came from this revelation. He knew that his father was a god and he knew that gods were omnipotent. Acheron could have saved Angie but didn't. Caine was convinced that it was because the gods were selfish and malevolent. He began to fuel his grief into anger at the gods. For the next year, he stayed a recluse until the arrival of someone who would become a good friend, Jemma Martin. Perhaps it was because Jemma and Caine had a shared demigod heritage, but Caine found somebody that he could trust. They even dated when they were both 12, but it didn't work. Caine found Jemma too air-headed. She never seemed to take anything seriously, which Caine just could not understand. So they broke up, but remained friends. No matter what, Caine and Jemma were kindred spirits.

When Caine was 13, he experienced his first monster attack. He and Jemma were sat in the forest outside of Jemma's archery range. Caine never liked archery. He held the idea that violence should be up close and personal. So he and Jemma were having a conversation in the shade of a tree, when the hellhound attacked. It burst through the trees and charged head-first at them. They both managed to jump out of the way, causing the hellhound to hit the tree behind them. It turned around and snarled at Caine, ready to mow him down. It ran at him and headbutted him in the chest, sending him careening into the forest. He travelled a few metres, landing in a puddle of mud, which softened the blow. He lay there for a few seconds, winded, before running to the space that he was before. He thought that Jemma had no idea what was going on. When he had arrived, he found the clearing empty. Caine thought that the hellhound must have killed Jemma, and he was distraught. Everybody close to him ended up dead. This served to intensify his hatred of the gods, as Acheron must have been able to stop the beast before it killed Jemma. Caine thought that the beast was still out there, and set off running back to the foster home. Once there, he grabbed a backpack and stuffed some clothes and money into it. From there he was lost. He didn't have a safe place to go. So he went in search of New York, the biggest city in the world.

Caine was on the road for a year before his next monster attack. He was walking along a canal, eating a packet of crisps that he had found in somebody's canal boat. That was Caine's main source of food if he stuck close to the water. Neighborhood Watch doesn't work with no neighbours. He was opening the door to his latest scavenge spot when he heard movement behind him. He turned around to see a scythian draconae advancing, swinging a celestial bronze hooksword at him. Caine ducked out of the way of a particularly close swing, which broke the window of the canal boat behind him. Improvising, he jumped through the shattered window, landing in the boat. He grabbed a shard of glass and ran to the other end of the boat, as the draconae was already coming in behind him. It swung its hooksword again, fracturing a window on the other side of the boat. Whilst it struggled to get its sword out, Caine took the opportunity and stabbed it with the glass shard in the stomach, not enough to kill it nut still enough to cause significant pain. The draconae, angry now, got its sword out and sung it at Caine again. But he was ready. Caine ducked the attack and grabbed the draconae slamming it against the broken window so hard for it to shatter completely and send them both flying into the water below. Caine managed to get on top and held the draconae underwater, drowning it. It struggled, but Caine fuelled all of his anger into ending the creature's life. He wanted to cause it pain, like the pain he had suffered in his life. He drowned it until it was weak enough to release its grip on its weapon. He then grabbed the hooksword and plunged it into the draconae's chest. He twisted it until the monster was just ash in the water and Caine was strangling nothing. He quickly got out of the canal, put the hooksword in his backpack and carried on walking, eating his crisps.

Another year passed and Caine had stayed in a hotel in a small town for a few weeks. He was earning money doing a few jobs around the town. He had kept his hooksword in his bag and trained with it in private. His third monster attack occured when he was taking out the rubbish for a local cafe. He was behind the bins when a stymphalian bird attacked him. It picked up his backpack with its talons, tearing it open. Caine quickly discarded the ragged sack on his back and picked up his hooksword from the floor. The bird flew at him again but Caine swerved out of the way. His sword accidentally banged against one of the bins during this action and the clanging sound made the bird veer away. Sensing a weakness, Caine picked up a bin lid and ran at the bird, clanging his sword against it. The sound disoriented the bird and it landed, dazed. Caine kept on making the sound, clearly enjoying its effect on the creature. He only stopped when he heard the owner of the cafe shouting from inside the building. Caine quickly dropped the lid and killed the bird with one fell swing, before running away. He left the town, with only his hooksword and his clothes for the long journey ahead.

Another year passed, and Caine ahd finally reached Long Island after using the last of his earnings to bribe a man to let him onto a ferry. He was near a forest, walking along a stream, when he was attacked once more by a hellhound, the beast that had started this journey and the beast that had stolen Jemma from Caine. When Caine saw it, he didn't even try to fight it. He was paralysed out of fear of what it could do to him. Of what it did do to Jemma. He was convinced that the gods had sent it to punish him, like they always did. He shook out of his state and ran at full speed away from the hellhound. But the hellhound was faster. It quickly gained on Caine and leaped on him, tearing a huge gash into his back. His shirt fell off him in tatters and Caine rolled over, in pain. He saw a path open up from the trees above his head and Caine only knew that he had to escape. He grabbed his hooksword and impaled the beast's stomach. He rolled it over and ran. Never looking behind him, he ran until he reached the Sanctuary.

Weapon: A celestial bronze hooksword

Faction to join: Veritum Unitum

Reason to join: Caine was born into death and neglect, a life that he thinks the gods could have rescued him from. His father abused his role in order to impregnate his mother yet repaid her by letting her die and by letting his son grow up in a life no child should live. Everybody Caine had ever loved has been taken from him by an accident or a beast that any omnipotent god should easily handle. Caine sees the gods as malevolent hypocrites and wants every one of them to be deposed, tortured and finally murdered. Veritum Unitum is the faction he wishes to join simply because he isn't stupid and he knows that anybody with the power of the gods has the potential to be corrupted. He doesn't want another set of rulers with the same holier-than-thou attitude.

Comments

This is a really well written claim and is just about ready for approval. Only thing I need you to add is a little bit of expansion to the reason to join. One of the most important aspects of Veritum Unitum is the opposition to the concept of immortality so that's something that needs to be in there.

Thank you! I've gone into more detail for the reason to join. Copicat123 (talk) 21:40, December 20, 2014 (UTC)

Isidora ~ Child of Hecate/Veritum's Lieutenant
Isidora
"Welcome to the Veritum Unitum faction. I'm sure you'll be of great use to our purpose."
Character's Bio

 Age: 19  Height: 5'5  Weight: 120 lbs
 Sexuality: Straight  Relationship Status: Single
Birth Place: Florence, Italy  Main Weapon: Powers and Sword
 Accent: Italian
 – "“Leave the fireworks for those who cast no spark of their own.”

Character's Powers

 Offensive:

  1. Children of Hecate have the ability to fire an intense beam of magical energy which will burn anything it touches. The ability can also be focused into small magical bullets, which have better range but are less damaging than a beam.
  2. Children of Hecate have the ability to use magic to electrically charge something made of metal for a short time.

Defensive:

  1. Children of Hecate are able to create a protective dome of magical energy around them for a short time.
  2. Children of Hecate are able to become ethereal in form for a short time, which temporarily causes all attacks to go through them. In this state, they cannot attack an opponent and if they do their ethereal state will dissipate instantly.

Passive:

  1. Children of Hecate have the innate ability to see in all directions at once.
  2. Children of Hecate are innately stronger at night.
  3. Children of Hecate are able to communicate with the dead to gather information.
  4. Children of Hecate are adept at making potions and elixirs, however potions used in battle cannot be overly powerful or altering to the events of the battle. Potions that can automatically heal all wounds or restore all energy are examples of over-powered potions. Only descendants of Hecate/Circe and Lampades can create potions. Overconsumption of potions can result in overdose symptoms and some potions could have side-effects or not work at all.

Supplementary:

  1. Children of Hecate can conjure spells to teleport themselves and allies. The further the distance, the more energy drained.
  2. Children of Hecate can cast a levitation spell on themselves for a short time which will allow them to fly, the longer they levitate the more power it drains. The spell can also be used items and enemies.
  3. Children of Hecate are able to use some healing spells to quickly heal minor wounds and slowly heal major wounds. Fatal wounds cannot be healed.

3 Month:

  1. Children of Hecate are able to control the Mist around them, allowing them to create optical illusions that can fool even demigods. The illusions can confuse enemies with false memories, alter the appearance of the user or their allies, change the appearance of items or weapons or even alter the appearance of the environment to an extent. Changes to the Mist only last for a short time, mist control is less draining than custom spells. (6 month)

6 Month:

  1. Children of Hecate have the ability to create new spells, whether they were trained, self-taught or devised the spell on the fly. The spells can be minor, such as locating, summoning animals, divination or controlling emotions. Or they can be more advanced and powerful such as controlling the elements, pure magical energy, necromancy, curses and summoning monsters or magical guardians. Spells cannot be overly powerful or controlling. The more complex and powerful the spell, the more energy it drains from the user.

9 Month:

  1. Children of Hecate have the ability to focus all their magical abilities into transforming themselves into any living being, or even a being of their own imagination. This power is, in essence, the ability to shapeshift into anything the user can imagine. The user can transform into another human, an animal, a monster, or anything in between. The transformation can last as long as the user wishes it to, but the longer they hold their form the more it drains them. They cannot cast any spells while the transformation is in place and they cannot transform into anything overly powerful. (Like a rabbit that can make people’s heads explode with a thought. ) The form they shift into cannot be larger than 2 to 3 times the human size of the user, and after the user resumes their regular form they are severely drained. Unable to move from exhaustion and they could possibly faint. This power can only be used once in a fight.

Traits:

  1. Children of Hecate typically love the magical arts, many of them are known for writing spellbooks. Her children have created/re-introduced and improved spells and techniques all over history.
  2. Necromancy is commonly a favored magical art among children of Hecate.
  3. Children of Hecate are known for being quite mysterious.
  4. Children of Hecate are often more active and exhibit better moods at night and in dark environments.
  5. Children of Hecate wield innate knowledge and understanding of the Mist.
