Personality: A bit distant, Adelaide keeps herself at arms length from most people, unwilling to let people get particularly close to her. Adelaide, despite her frosty exterior, dearly loves her friends. She is fiercely loyal and devout to her beliefs. Adelaide also tries to retain a regal air, keeping her short temper on a long leash. She's admittedly a bit vain, willing to flaunt her looks as she sees fit.

History: The King Henry II of France was bored. Many could tell. He did not love his wife, Catherine de' Medici. The two had been wed since they were both 14, and he never cared much for her. He could not be with his love, Diane de Poitiers. As Diane insisted he lay with Catherine to produce heirs to the throne, Apate laughed. Amused at what Aphrodite had done to the king, and to please Eris, who was upset with her, Apate descended from Olympus, donning the guise of Catherine. If she stirred a child with the king, and left it there, it would be absolutely scandalous, and sure to incite some discord, if the 20 year old King was caught having a secret child.

And so, Apate, wearing Catherine's face, seduced and enthralled the king into their bed, laying with him. Months later, in January of 1539, weary after another argument with Catherine, Henry II found a babe upon his headpillow. Confused, he lifted the baby up, noticing a note near the pillow. As he read the exquisite french calligraphy, his eyebrows rose further and further. A Deity? He slept with a goddess? Was this some kind of joke? It would explain why Catherine did not seem to swell with child.

Eyes widening, and skin paling, he realized the child was a bastard. Catherine would not accept it, nor would Diane. He had to act, and quickly. Unable to kill his child, Henry gave the child to the lady Antoinette de Bourbon, a powerful Duchess of Guise. Antoinette, realizing the power she would gain, eagerly accepted the child, naming her Adelaide. It was not known how the 46 year old woman convinced Claude, her husband, but she did.

It was not a loveless childhood. Adelaide was a jewel of the court and would remain so for her entire life, always helpful, always trustworthy. One of her life-long friends would be the Mary, future Queen of Scots, the maternal granddaughter of Adelaide's adoptive mother. She was only 3 years younger than Adelaide. Adelaide was not particularly liked by her closest brother, Rene, for the three year old felt the baby stole the affection he rightfully deserved from his parents. Doted upon, Adelaide was tutored in politics, the fine and performing arts, astronomy, agriculture and practically every other skill needed of a young lady.

She was in particular doted upon by her grandparents, Marie of Luxembourg, the Countess of Vendôme. In fact, so much so, that Marie wrote within her will that Adelaide was decreed to be her immediate successor as 'countess' upon Marie's death. Adelaide, the picturesque little lady, gracefully accepted the further lessons she was required to learn. She would later become heavily embroiled within the French Court, coming into opposition against Diane de Poitiers, and supporting Catherine de' Medici. Marie's death when Adelaide was 8 impacted her deeply. Antoinette de Bourbon became the Regent of Vendome until Adelaide was 16.

At the age of 10, Adelaide found herself confronted by a large hound with eyes of crimson, and fur of night. Horrified, she was helpless as the creature stalked towards her. It was only due to Antoinette's clever thinking, impaling the hound upon a glittering, bronze sword, that Adelaide survived. Relieved, Adelaide asked how she knew she was in trouble. Antoinette thought of the letter the King had given her so long ago, and replied with "A Motherly Intuition." Antoinette had beseeched the gods for aid in protecting Adelaide, and aid she was given. A glittering bronze rapier, which shrunk to fit snug within a crystalline amulet. She also found a shield, which shrunk into a bracelet, with a single charm on it.

With yet another set of classes, this time focused on defending herself, Adelaide trained under the infamous Musketeers, as well as various swordsmen across France. She also took several classes on herbology and botany, in case she was ever lost in the wilderness. Adelaide had a remarkable proficiency with the rapier, which led to her being trained moreso in that than other blades, although Antoinette was strict in her knowing at least every type.

Taking the Rapier and Shield, she gave these as a gift to Adelaide for her 11th Birthday, and to celebrate her engagement to some foreign nobleman Adelaide had never met nor heard of, Phillip II of Spain. As the picturesque girl, Adelaide gracefully accepted this, but she felt discontentment stir within her chest, which would only fester.

Adelaide spent most of her days studying, or watching the musketeers practice. Many saw the depressed Adelaide in the court, and even more wished to confront Antoinette about the engagement. It was only when Mary, future Queen of Scots, and Catherine de Medici, in a rare agreement with Diane de Poitiers,  implored King Henry II to cancel the engagement. At seeing the three women agree, and harboring his own affection for his bastard daughter, he agreed.

Adelaide perked up, no longer feeling as if she would be tied down to a man for her life. When assassins, including a scythian dracanae, came after her from the infuriated Phillip, the 11 year old defended herself remarkably, defending Antoinette de Bourbon as well. Impressed, the Captain of the Musketeers asked if Adelaide would wish to join when she was of age, and she eagerly agreed. The assassination attempted helped Henry II decide to start the Italian War of 1551-1559.

In truth, the girl had always yearned to join the Musketeers, but feared it would not be proper unless requested. Elated, she worked at mastering any skill she possibly could, and became further integrated into the politics of the court, carving power, slowly, yet steadily, out from Diane de Poitiers, so that it would make Catherine exiling her all the more easy. She was sheltered during the Italian War, rarely venturing out in public, but she used that time to study and practice. During the war, she became recognized as the Countess of Vendome, and was given far more power than she had before.

The War concluded in 1559, a very eventful year for Adelaide. She had turned 20 of age, much to Antoinette's relief. The King had died, the man whom none knew was Adelaide's father, bar Antoinette, was dead. Gone, from a simple jousting accident. In a rare moment of empathy for Diane, Adelaide comforted her as the mistress was denied to see her lover. However, her empathy did not stop her from supporting Catherine exiling the woman to Château de Chaumont. With her considerable amount of political favors, Adelaide's support made Diane's exile imminent. Diane stayed at Câteau de Chaumont for only a short time, and she lived out her remaining years in her château in Anet, Eure-et-Loir, where she lived in comfortable obscurity as a virtual exile.

As she navigated the complicated political arena for years, on request of her long-time ally, Catherine, Adelaide yearned to finally join the Musketeers. This passion grew, until she did finally join at age 45, as a way of coping with Antoinette's death, a year prior. At age 47, she went out to go save her childhood friend, Mary of Scots, but could not save her from being beheaded. Infuriated, Adelaide plotted Elizabeth I's death. She would later decide against killing Elizabeth, instead choosing to vent her frustration on a nearby minotaur. Artemis, who had been hunting the beast, asked if Adelaide would join her hunt. Adelaide refused.

Adelaide served the Musketeers faithfully, but in an accident, she was impaled by an english guard. As she lay upon the cold stone, her life trickling away, she mourned. She wished she had caused more mayhem, caused more anarchy, not been so confined to the rules of propiety and etiquette as she was. She yearned for a lost childhood, that was shackled by politics and war. Her wishes were heard by her mother, Apate. Struck with grief over her daughter, Apate begged her ally, Eris, to help. Seeing potential, the goddess Eris trapped her brother, Thanatos within a crystalline skull, ceasing death. This prevented him from collecting Adelaide's soul, and any others for a brief time, as she turned the once-musketeer into her new attendant and handmaiden. After healing Adelaide, and immortalizing her, Eris released Thanatos from the skull.

Adelaide was immensely grateful and zealously followed Eris' doctrine, causing chaos across the mortal realm as much as she possibly could. She spent her free time, experiencing various decadent pleasures in Olympus, beneath the Oceans, or the Underworld. She would regularly help the french in their wars, and any sort of thing she found interest in. She was even included in the fairytale Beauty and the Beast, as the sorceress who cursed the Beast, or, in some variations, the 'fairy'. Her favorite moniker was the Black Angel of the battlefields, where she would feed off of the chaos to stir more. Artemis, whenever meeting Adelaide, would ask she join her Hunt. Adelaide refused every time.

It was during a decadent party in Olympus that Adelaide met the youthful goddess Hebe, and she was immediately intrigued by the scope the minor deity possessed. She looked at her calloused and withered hands, disgusted. Adelaide would then go out of her way to be helpful to both Hebe and Aphrodite, dealing with a group of tempermental Sea Serpents in an isle off the coast of Greece that was once a sacred temple to the deities. In reward, the two restored Adelaide's faded youth.

Adelaide was struck with grief when the Musketeers were disbanded, and fell into a slump. She would only do tasks Eris assigned her. She played a key part in the startings of several wars, such as the Anglo-Spanish war, the Great Turkish War and World War I. She also participated in dozens more, including the American Revolutionary War, the Haitian Revolution War, and World War II, playing as soldier or messenger.

When Eris assigned her to convince the Bavarian Supreme Court to pardon a criminal from the Landsberg Prison, in Germany. Adelaide took this task reluctantly, but found it was eerily reminscent of her time as a politician, and throughly enjoyed it. Enthralling and charming the prisoner, Adelaide kept her words clipped yet honeyed, smooth and hard, tempting yet revolting, before pressing her lips to a cup of coffee. Utterly charmed, he was dismayed when he later learned he would never see her again, but he hoped she would see the destruction he would wrought. He did not pay much mind to her later in his life, preoccupied with his consorts and later, wife.

Adelaide was both fascinated and horrified when she saw the cause. What little remained of the empathetic little girl was brought to the surface, and she lended her aid to end the brutal war. She then joined Artemis' Hunt, leaving the employ of Eris. The Goddess' amorality to the war disgusted Adelaide, and she chose to stay with Artemis, finally accepting the invitation. Her relationship with the Goddess of Discord ended fairly decent, at least on the divine half.

While she served faithfully, for she had remained chaste and pure, she later had decided to go to the camp she heard so much of, unable to handle the deaths of her fellow hunters. It was too painful. It was a Manticore hunt gone awry, and Adelaide's guilt was tremendous. She was the senior, she should've looked out for her fellow hunters.

Perhaps she would find something at the Camp Half-Blood to keep her there, to find penance.

Heyo! I like your character's story, but there's just a few things that need to be added or changed:

  • Characters directly affecting historical events and Interacting with famous/historical figures, including royalty and the likes of Adolf (I'm going to assume you're implying the WW2 Germanic Leader) isn't allowed on the wiki, since it messes with real-life continuity.
  • Don't forget to add your signature at the end!
  • Nitpick - where did Antoinette get the celestial bronze sword?
  • A teeny nitpick - but demigods continue to have monster attacks throughout the rest of their life. Even just a sentence slipped in saying "she continued to fight off monsters in the following years" would be enough :)

Thanks so much!

So, upon further reflection and discussion with you and other users, I'll amend my comments:

  • You might be ok for the historical interactions, seeing as the figures mentioned are almost are rather obscure, with the exception of Hitler. It'll ultimately be up to a full-fledged claim worker to decide whether it's ok or not, but to be on the safe side I still have to heavily recommend taking out the interaction with Adolf Hitler. If anything, that'll likely be the one thing in that regard holding back Antoinette from being claimed.
  • Your explanation that she was off-world while being a handmaiden makes sense as to not experiencing monster attacks, and I quite like it! Adding a note above in the claim about it would help for organizational purposes.
  • Similarly, adding a note about Antoinette recieving the sword would be great - or if the one she prayed for to protect Adelaide with is the same one, instead switch her recieving it to before the first monster attack (in order for things to make chronological sense).

I think that's everything! Thanks for your patience.
