Index > Camp Claiming > Camp/Elias Culver

Name: Elias Culver

Gender: Male

God Parent: Morpheus, Hypnos, Deimos

Mortal Parent: Gianna Culver

Appearance: Elias is about five foot six or so. His strict vegetarian diet makes it easy to maintain a healthy body weight, but he is by no means physically imposing. He has brown hair that he keeps short and tidy. His eyes are small and dark. They often stare off into space or focus in on small details of objects whenever Elias gets the least bit bored. Elias's nose is large enough to be evidence of his mother's Italian heritage. Elias has thin lips that he keeps straight almost always. He isn't nearly as somber as he looks, but years of living in the governor's mansion and dealing with people at political events have trained the lad to stonewall everyone. For a teenager, the guy is a very dapper dresser. He always wears at least a khakis and a button up, but vests, ties, and suit jackets are all common additions to his daily attire.

Elias culver

Personality: Elias's most significant character trait is his protectiveness. He is a natural caregiver and he is more than happy to help anyone whom he determines to need his assistance. He took care of his mother for months before coming to camp. Despite being the first to offer aid to others, Elias is rather frail for a demigod in his own right. He cannot stand loud noises or rapid movements. Situations with lots of these stimuli often send Elias into an almost catatonic state and less overwhelming situations still cause him a great deal of stress. Because of this major inconvenience, Elias's training at camp focuses on fine tuning his superpowers and studying Greek myths. Elias has learned from his stepfather to be an effective diplomat. He is an expert in persuasion and verbal deception. He can keep his calm in social situations and can normally get others to come to his way of thinking.

History: Gianna and Edward Culver were high school sweethearts who got married soon after graduation. Gianna got a job as a concierge at a hotel to help put Edward though law school. Upon graduating, Edward got a job working for the Louisville district attorney. He quickly proved himself to be an excellent lawyer and he moved his way up in the ranks until he was noticed by the governor and made attorney genre rail of the great state of Kentucky. By the time he was forty, Edward Culver managed to barely win a gubernatorial bid. The Culvers were very happy, but they were never able to have a child. They prayed that God would give them a child, but they didn't realize what god they were praying to. The lonely couple caught the attention of Morpheus who decided to answer their prayers in his own way. He put Gianna into a dreamlike state and conceived a child with her. During this process, she did not know what was happening and she could not remember it afterward.

They were overjoyed to have their son, Elias. Edward had no idea he wasn't the baby's father and he took care of Eli as his son. Elias had about as normal of a childhood as one could have, growing up in the governors mansion. He always had an impressive imagination and loved to pretend he was a superhero or a lion or the president. But being the kid of a public figure meant that Elias had to learn about the nuances of high society as a little boy. From the time he was about six on, he was attending black tie fund raisers and learning about politics from his stepfather. Edward's plan was to prune Elias to be a successful politician in the future. Elias was well adapted to the public life of being Kentucky's only first child and by the time he was ten, he was already working with several charities around the state and speaking with interviewers about things in the Capitol. But when Elias was twelve, his life took a startling turn.

Eli was in the car with his mother when Lamia, a child eating demon, approached the vehicle at a stop sign. Lamia had disguised herself as a panhandler asking for money. When Gianna rolled down the window, lamia revealed her monstrous identity and commandeered the car. She then drove it to her lair where she began to prepare to cook and eat Elias. Back in the Capitol, Edward assumed that his wife and son had been abducted for political reasons and treated the kidnapping as a hostage situation by sending a swat team to the car using its gps location. There, three Camp Half Blood dream nymphs secretly joined the swat team and used a volley of celestial bronze arrows to kill Lamia amidst the chaos of the swat team try ping to rescue the Culvers.

Fortunately, the nymphs and swat team acted quickly enough to prevent any serious damage from being done to either captive. On the downside, Gianna was so shaken up that she wasn't even capable of stringing together a coherent sentence. The nymphs told Elias about camp and encouraged him to go right away, but Elias put off the nymphs because he wanted to help Edward take care of Gianna. The nymphs were furious, but eventually realized that Eli was too stubborn to go to camp until his mother's condition improved. The nymphs decided to go back to camp, but they made Elias dream about Camp Half Blood very often and gave him a celestial bronze short sword just in case more monsters attacked.

During the next six months, Gianna's condition improved very little. Elias stayed by his mother while she babbled and giggled at nothing and seemed to be completely off her rocker. Edward attempted to keep his wife's condition a secret to protect her privacy, even with Elias's help, Kentucky's crazed First Lady was soon on the cover of every newspaper in the state. Edward decided after four terms, not to seek reelection to stay home with his wife. All the while, minor monsters continued to come after Elias with increasing frequency. Elias was able to fend them off with his short sword and day dream powers, but he knew his luck with monsters was not enough to let him survive long term. Eventually Eli decided that his presence was putting his family in danger and guided by the nymph's dreams, had his father take him to camp.

Elias is now thirteen years old and suffers what is probably PTSD from the monsters and seeing his mother go crazy. Edward has retired from his life of public service and takes care of Gianna full time. Her condition has not noticeably improved since her kidnapping. His combat training at camp is greatly inhibited by the fact that he has such a hard time coping with sudden changes in his surroundings, so he focuses more on learning non combat skills like canoeing and getting better at using his powers.

Weapons: Elias carries a celestial bronze short sword.

How old was he when he was first attacked, and how old is he now?

He was twelve when he was attacked by Lampia. He is now fourteen Horchata (talk) 19:01, December 14, 2013 (UTC)

A single dream nymph wouldn't have been able to kill Lamia unassisted. A dagger is a great secondary or back -up weapon, but Elias will need a proper weapon for his main weapon.

Do you have a lot of sad thoughts? ...Doesn't everyone? ~Ava Ire Tumblr mqb6t1mLTM1sbc0poo1 500

The nymph wasn't unassisted. She had an entire swat team distracting Lamia. Lamia was caught off guard because she had no reason to expect anything related to the gods would try to rescue Elias and Gianna. And as of right now, I don't think Elias is really capable of fighting with much more than a dagger. He is very easily shaken up by the kind of fast movements associated with heavy melee and he's not trained with ranged weapons. As a child of a minor god, Elias hasn't been attracting formidable monsters, so he has been able to use his powers as a distraction to sneak up on things like Karpoi as they com after him.

About the nymph being able to defeat Lamia alone is unlikely. I mean, Lamia is one strong monster. And what did the nymph use to kill her? You just said celestial bronze. Celestial bronze what?

How old is he now? You did not mention anything about him going to camp.

Kindly change his weapon preference since in this wiki, daggers aren't allowed to be used as main weapons. They are only used for secondary weapons.

I have made changes. In short: it was three nymphs and the massive distraction of a loud group of yummy humans running around and discharging firearms that killed lamia. Elias now uses a short sword instead of a dagger. And I have added information about his current state of affairs. Namely that he is fourteen and at camp working mainly on noncombat skills and building up a tolerance for more intense situations.

Okay, the thing about adding the number of nymphs is good but let me just remind you that humans cannot see through the mist. Only very few are gifted to be clear-sighted.

Another thing though. You said that he was attacked when he was 12 and he is now 14, what happened during the two years?

Sorry bout that. I was doing elementary math wrong. :P Elias would be 13. He spent the time between his attack and arriving at camp taking care of his mother as his dad finished his term as governor. Neither Gianna nor any of the swat people saw through the mist if that's what you were referring to. The swat people saw the nymphs as swat officers themselves and lamia as a stereotypical kidnapper. Probably a creepy middle aged man with a gun. Whatever the mist made Gianna see though was much more terrifying. She hasn't been able to talk about what she saw, but it most likely was not the same thing seen by Elias or the officers.

Horchata (talk) 10:47, December 15, 2013 (UTC)

Okay *thumbs up* Just a teeny tiny detail to add--how he survived the minor attacks. It won't be that hard since the gap is only months :P I think you can explain it like in one sentence. Depends on you.

Added a sentence. :)

Horchata (talk) 11:04, December 15, 2013 (UTC)

Nice! Okay but dream power? Be specific xP See this. I actually checked about the dream power you were talking about and I just want to confirm if it's the 'day dream' power or is it somethin else?

By the way, re-read the whole thing and found out that you did not elaborate on his early childhood. YOu skipped to when he was already 12. Kindly elaborate on that part, as well :)

Wait, the lair? If there was a lair, wouldn't they be unable to track it? Unless it was some sort of house >.<
