Name: Lex Ochoa

Age: 17

Gender (before someone asks): Genderqueer because yes

Mortal Parent: Emilia Ochoa

God/Titan: Deimos

Appearance (optional): Ali Medina

Lex01

Personality (at least a sentence or two): They're very independent--not really a loner, but group work isn't their thing. They enjoy being around other people--bus stations, train stations, concerts, whatever. Long layovers are the best.

They're a bit of a pragmatist, and definitely a realist: the cup is half-empty if it's been emptied halfway, and half-full if it's been half-filled. They're loyal, generally, but it's difficult to form the sort of bond necessary to have their unconditional fealty, and it's easily lost.

Sometimes they ponders what they’ll do in the event they end up in a genuine moral crisis. Like the train question: on one track someone you love is locked in the path of the train, and on the other five people you don’t know. You can divert the train and save the one person, or you can not and save five. The “greater good” dictates they think of others and save five lives, but to do that they would have to value those lives on some level, right? Which they don’t. Boo-hoo for whoever knows those people, but they’ll be diverting that train, thank you very much. They're kind of a selfish person; they accept that. But what would they do if someone else made the same choice and ran over someone they cared about with a train? Honestly, they’d probably hunt them down and kill them slowly. Who’s to say someone else wouldn’t do the same to them? By diverting the train they're preserving their own well-being in the moment, but what are the consequences of that choice? And what about the person they saved? Would they be able to live with them knowing they essentially murdered five people for them? Would they be able to live with themselves after that? But if they chose the other path—to not divert the train—five people and their families would be very grateful, but what about everyone who knew the person they just killed? What about themself? Maybe they’d tie themself to the tracks and see what happens. Who knows?

Inside, they're constantly feeling everything very hard, but over time they've learned not to show it. They rarely laugh freely, or smile, or cry, or even scowl. Most of their expressions are snorts, head shakes, and incredulous eyebrow raises--their emotions are much more evident in their other actions. If they're happy, they might be a bit more talkative, or if they're sad they may lash out angrily. Sometimes it all gets to bee a bit too much for them, and they have to be alone for a while to let it all out.

When it rains, though? It feels like all their troubles wash away and it's okay to smile.

History (more than a paragraph): Emilia met Deimos (he introduced himself as such, but she introduced herself as Electra so she didn't think much of it) at a BDSM event in Atlanta, GA, and they shared one glorious night of pain, fearful anticipation, and babymaking.

Lex knew from a young age that they were unwanted. In fact, their earliest memory is cowering in a corner, listening to Emilia rant about how much of a burden Lex is. All Lex did was hug their preschool teacher.

The abuse continued, and worstened. It wasn't uncommon for Emilia to wake Lex up in the night, screaming, and make them submit to a whipping--but never anywhere anyone could see. Often it was over little things, like Lex leaving their bookbag next to the door or forgetting to rinse out a cup, but sometimes it was just because Emilia had a bad day and Lex was her personal punching bag. The worst time was one of those days, and Lex ended up in the hospital with a concussion because Emilia had straight up flipped their mattress with them on it, and they hit their head on the nightstand.

Lex is pretty sure they were eight when the sound of a drawer handle tinkling, or dishes banging, or someone stomping up the stairs was enough to make them wake up, terrified of what would happen next, even if they were away from home.

Lex never had many friends, just two very, very close ones. They gained a bit of a reputation in middle school when both their friends came out--trans and very, very gay--and started getting bullied. They had no issue cornering the bullies and verbally threatening them to the point they shit their pants--or, in one case, ran crying to the teacher. Lex, of course, just said they were defending their friends, but that didn't stop a note getting sent home or the subsequent beating.

Lex was able to get a yardwork/housework job at eleven for her friend's mom's friend, who paid twelve bucks an hour and gave Lex cookies. They used the money for a karate class, but that didn't last very long after Emilia found out. After, Lex joined the stage combat club at school since it was the closest thing to self-defense they could get their hands on. In the play the club put on, Lex was a shepherd forbidden by the gods to ever hold a blade (cutting steak was an ordeal) and cursed with demons constantly plaguing their flock. They were able to defend the flock with their crook, but they also accidentally broke a few actors' arms on accident because the choreography got messed up.

The summer before high school, at only thirteen because they went to summer school so they could get to college faster, Lex finally ran away. They broke into a restaurant in their hometown of Charleston, SC that had an old pirate tunnel running underneath it that was kept on display, and followed it all night and most of the next day, trying to keep track of their position on the map they'd found online.

They knew they took a wrong turn somewhere when the path ahead was collapsed. With a sigh, they sat down and decided to eat their final MRE (because you can buy them on amazon, and they are very good). As they were waiting for their food to heat up, they heard a loud growling from just around the corner. Hoping it was just a little dog with a loud voice, they grabbed their wolf staff (also an amason purchase, because it looked really cool) and went to investigate.

The dog was all black and easily the size of a regular car...and glaring right at Lex. They backed up slowly, wondering if it like vegetarian taco stew, but it advanced, then pounced. They turned and tried to sprint away, but its claws raked down their leg, bringing them down. They beat at it with their staff, but that did nothing; the beast snapped it in its jaws. They tried to crawl away, at the same time feeling for anything they could use as a weapon, but--wait. They hissed as they cut their finger on something, then grabbed it--a large, pointy rock--and plunged it pointy-end first into the animal's eye-and-general-face-and-head-area several times, very, very hard--like adrenaline-fueled hard. With a pitiful yelp, it went limp.

After this, knowing they needed help, they wandered through the tunnels as quickly as they could along the route they thought would be fastest to the surface. Eventually they made it out into a cove, and they struggled their way up to the beach, trying not to get their injured leg into anything too dangerous, such as barnacles or oyster shells or broken bottles. It began to rain when they finally made it onto the sand, and with a small smile, they fell over, out cold.

They woke up in the hospital, Emilia reading a book next to their bed. Instantly fear curled around their heart, but when she noticed they were awake she simply slipped a small packet out of the back of her book and set it in Lex's lap. It read: "Welcome to the Charleston Military Academy for Girls"

The next summer, at fourteen, Lex went to Bull Island with one of their friends. (Bull Island, off the coast of South Carolina, has a population of wild horses.) While waiting at the docks to board the ferry back to the mainland, a small herd of horses came charging right through the crowd, obviously in a panic. Lex looked around in confusion, expecting some asshat on a four wheeler or something, but instead they saw a flaming figure in the distance, getting closer by the second. It left a fiery trail behind it. Lex didn't want to deal with another not-supposed-to-exist creature, so they shouted "Fire!" pointing at the advancing horse. Screams erupted from the crowd and the line onto the ferry sped up considerably. The rangers on the island radioed it in, then grabbed buckets and water hoses and a fire extinguisher--"Call the vet! There's a horse in there!"--and Lex was out to sea on the ferry, safe now that the fiery horse had a gaggle of concerned rangers around it.

The next year, while at the JROTC orienteering championships in Oregon, Lex was trying to let their self-proclaimed partner figure out where they needed to go on their own when they heard a clicking coming closer, then several crashes--trees falling. Lex urged their partner that they needed to go now. He said he needed one more minute, but Lex snatched the map from his hands and grabbed him by his shirt, pointing at the falling trees. "Do you see that? We do not want to meet whatever is causing that, do you understand?" He nodded, and Lex checked their direction quickly, then sprinted east, their partner close behind. Lex was aiming to make it to the creek so the two of them could try to throw whatever was chasing them off their scent, and from there up the sheer lower face of the really big hill, then over the hill and back to base. They made it to the creek without issue, but Lex caught sight of a horde of giant ants in the distance while they were trying to push their partner up to the ledge. The slippery rocks weren't helping, and as soon as their partner got up to the ledge, they slipped, falling into the water and cracking their head on the bottom--thankfully not too hard, but they saw spots and the impact site stung like it'd split open. Their partner yelled their name, urging them to hurry. They had no idea what he was seeing, but they guessed it was something worse than a herd of deer. They scrambled to their feet, grabbing the belt their partner was dangling over the side and using it to get high enough to grab his hands. Something splashed into the rock just next to them, sizzling, dissolving the rock. Adrenaline pumping through their veins, Lex swung a leg onto the ledge, missing most of the next shot of acid which would have caught them full in the back. Still, droplets sprayed onto their side, burning into their skin, ripping a scream from their throat. Their partner dragged them onto the ledge, scrambling to help them to their feet as they yelled that they had to go. They made it back to base in record time, both collapsing as people rushed to them. Lex let her partner tell the story about a herd of rabid moose.

The next summer, Lex went on a sea cruise, spending two weeks on an aircraft carrier. As land came into sight in the distance, Lex saw a small flock of birds headed their way, and on instinct decided it would be best to go below decks. Lex was safe, but later they heard that a few of the people on the flight deck had suffered a seagull attack, but the ship's XO started playing crappy eighties celebratory music and they left

Lex was relieved when she finally got to the CMAG. It was a boarding school and it had summer expeditions that often lasted weeks, and it taught self-defense. They missed their friends, but here no one really minded their stoicism or combat enthusiasm, and they climbed the ranks quickly. At the end of their senior year, they were a cadet Major and in charge of the entire company. They had a commission to the Naval Academy and had lived peacefully with their girlfriend for the last two years. Everything was going so well.

Just before they were due to go to the Academy, they beat up two neo-nazis who were harassing their friend, Jewel, who attended the Charleston Military Academy for Boys, and got arrested for assault. They were let out two days later charge-free, but their offer at the Naval Academy had been withdrawn and their girlfriend and her parents had died in a car crash just the night before.

(Jewel is a satyr. He really didn't wait much longer than Grover did with Percy, but the delay before he knew Lex was a discovery issue. He was at Charleston Millitary Academy for Boys, and Lex was at Charleston Military Academy for Girls, so while he knew there was a demigiod in the area, it took him a while to figure out it was Lex because the schools only interacted at vompetitions and dances and things, both of which have lots of people. After he found out it was Lex, he then had to befriend them and gain their trust, which is no easy feat. During the friendship establishment period, Lex was accepted to the Naval Academy, and they told Jewel hiw great that was and how great everything was going for then, in spite of what they had been dreading--that is, a crumbling of everything they've managed to gain since they got away from Emilia. (whizh ends up happening anyway, who knew) At that point, Jewel was hesitant to take them away from their dreams because he saw how important these things were to them.)

After the funeral, Jewel came to them and apologized for getting them arrested--which was, of course, dismissed, because they were glad to punch those arsehats--and told them about their demigodliness and need to go to Camp and he was a satyr and such things and Lex just kind of...absorbed everything? It made sense. The trip there was fairly easy, but they were attacked just a few miles away from camp by the same dog--hellhound--that attached them in the pirate tunnels a few years before. Jewel kiled the monster, but in the process he died, too.

Instead of going into camp after Jewel killed the hellhound, they got scared and lived in the back of a small café in New York, washing dishes and cleaning up in exchange for room and board. Attacks increased in frequency, and after a particularly nasty donkey-metal-leg-girl attack that destroyed much of the café, they finally decided they had to suck it up and go to this camp. So...a week and a day.

Weapon(s) (optional): A staff, so they can beat people to death, but with a pointy end. Celestial bronze.

Comments

Harro there! I'm Dolt~ I'll be your claim checker for the day :3

Not sure if this is still a WIP but I'll provide some comments :3

  • I'm curious how the actors broke their arms. How did the choreography got so messed up to the point where the actors broke their arms?
  • Lex ran away with whom? I assume their friends but how and why did they do it?
  • I don't think there would be a map of a tunnel on display just on the internet. Blueprints sure. But not a map.
  • Judging by the fact that Lex has an abusive mother, I don't think that they would have enough money to buy stuff from Amazon. Moreover you need to have a credit card or paypal to buy things on Amazon and the trio are underage to own a credit card.
  • Based on the policies on this wikia, after the first monster attack, the trio's scent would get stronger. Therefore, they would be at least one monster attack every year.
  • Their girlfriend and family dying just when the assault happened is far too coincidental.
  • Why didn't Jewel sent the trio to camp where it would be much safer than the boarding school?
  • 13+ is far too old for a monster attack to happen without a proper explanation.
  • Did they get claimed when they reached camp from their respectful godly parents?
  • How long did they stay in camp afterwards? Due to the metagaming rule, they can only have been at camp for two weeks at max.

That should be all. Good luck :3

8c237716123e83cd0f8fe6c03a8aa72d And when the night comes, I will have to go. Because right now I want to hold you so close ~ Dolt

  • bitter laughter* i'm dying HERE WE GO
  • I took the choreography mishap from my own experience with an amateur stage combat club XD Not terrible breaks, just minor fractures--I left that out to leave a bit to the imagination. The choreography got messed up because they were middle schoolers who didn't perform well under pressure and trust me, there were injuries all around.
  • Lex ran away alone? Idk why everyone is thinking They ran away with people
  • I doubt there would be blueprints of the old Charleston pirate tunnels online, seeing as they were literally dug by pirates ages ago XD Maps, sure. Some history nut has taken the time, and with a bit of tedious searching those maps would likely be found.
  • Without being too standoffish, kindly do not tell me what and what not an abused child would be able to do. I never said that Lex and their mother were poor, which they aren't, and I hope that you're not assuming that poor and abused go hand in hand. Emilia didn't take Lex's money; she just didn't want them in a self defense class.
  • I was going off the canon that children of minor gods don't tend to be attacked as often, but if it's that important I can shove some stuff in.
  • That's classic storytelling "and then everything fell apart" and I am very reluctant to change it since the arrest and the crash are unrelated events that just occured in the same time frame.
  • Again with the trio that doesn't exist :P I assume that's because Jewel went to the boys' school and it took a while for him to figure out exactly where the demigod scent was coming from after he found out there was one
  • I can add in some evil snakes?
  • I'm assuming they only just got to camp, and the claiming occured shortly thereafter.

Notmypresident (talk) 12:17, February 13, 2017 (UTC)

Allo there! Please bear with me as we go through some points :)

  • I'm sorry but it's somehow pretty confusing using 'their' and 'them' instead of the singular 'her'. Might you tell me why that is?
  • So 13 was when she was first attacked, right? Usually, once attacked, demigods encounter/get attacked by more monsters, averagely one each year until arrival in Camp. So between 13 and 17 years old (that is, her arrival), she should've had 5 (including the first) or more attacks/encounter.
  • She stayed 4 years at CMAG? With Jewel? If Jewel's a satyr (if I read right), why didn't he tell Lex immediately about her heritage? Satyrs' first priority is to bring demigods to Camp ASAP. So why wait after 4 years?
  • Please state in your claim how long she has been in Camp since her arrival. Two weeks is the max time.
  • Plus, she was still young when she ran away, and probably bought the stuff. How did she buy some of those through Amazon?
  • Now her weapon. The best a demigod would have is a weapon made of Celestial bronze, which is the only one that can kill monsters (save for Stygian iron) in this wiki. You sure the staff ain't one?

So that's all. See ya!

Awesome, here we go:

  • Lex is genderqueer (p sure I put that somewhere?) so they don't identify with the baggage that comes with he and she pronouns. This is a personal decision since they know that people are goong to put them into a box regardless of what they say. It's about comfort--they don't enjoy being addressed by he or she pronouns any more than anyone else would enjoy being adressed by the wrong pronouns.
  • If there have to be more encounters, can I say they had some close brushes with some abnormally shady figures on field trips.
  • Well first of all, Jewel is a dude, so he wouldn't be at CMAG, he would be at CMAB. While these are sister schools, they aren't co-ed, so the only time students would mix would ve at competitions and dances and stuff. I figured that Jewel didn't actually figure out who the demigod was until maybe late in Lex's junior year, by which time things were going really well for Lex, and in the process of befriending them they were accepted to the Naval Academy. Jewel is a bit more than a stock satyr to me, and since Lex hadn't had any attacks recently that he was aware of, he didn't want to take them away from all their hopes and dreams.
  • Ah. Now I see why you're bugging me about the time XD oops. I forget this wiki goes in real time. That is an issue. Can we go with...instead of going into camp after Jewel killed the hellhound, they got scared and lived in the back of a small café in New York, washing dishes and cleaning up in exchange for room and board. Attacks increased in frequency, and after a particularly nasty donkey-metal-leg-girl attack that destroyed much of the café, they finally decided they had to suck it up and go to this camp. So...a week and a day.
  • Well, I've established that they had that house/yard cleaning gig with their friend's mom's friend, so they did have some money. ($72 a week, probably, since there are about six hours' worth of general cleaning per week at my house) And they could just go buy a visa gift card at wal-mart? Which is no issue? and then put the info into amazon? It's a gift card, not alcohol XD nobody cares
  • Well, I suppose it would be nice if the staff were stygian iron. That cool?

Notmypresident (talk) 12:59, February 14, 2017 (UTC)

Hi I'm me and I'm here to check your claim you see?

  • Still before I start I have to say your claim... have a one of a kind opening. I've read a couple of claims but your the ONLY thats able to make me be impress (not a comment just words of inspiration)
  • Why did jewel wait do long to tell them they were demigods? Is he a satyr? please do explain >.<

I feel bad for not having many complaints but that shows your claim is good so good luck :)

Behind those cold hard computer screens.....SuitIsASexyWhoreThere’s a human heart beating away its emotions…

Thank you, my dude! I assume you mean the parents' meeting? (lowkey a cop-out because I didn't want to write it XD)

  • I guess I still have yet to explain the situation clearly? Yes, Jewel is a satyr. (whizh ends up happening anyway, who knew) At that point, Jewel was hesitant to take them away from their dreams because he saw how important these things were to them.
  • So the first attack was at thirteen? So I need to write three more so I have five total. (initial and the one before camp)
  • The next summer, at fourteen, Lex went to Bull Island with one of their friends. (Bull Island, off the coast of South Carolina, has a population of wild horses.) While waiting at the docks to board the ferry back to the mainland, a small herd of horses came charging right through the crowd, obviously in a panic. • Yes, the XO is a demigod. I assume that's okay? These ships have like 5000 people on board so I doubt a demigod is out of the question.

Notmypresident (talk) 12:50, February 15, 2017 (UTC)

Hi there! I see that you have explained your points well, but can you please put all those points you answered in the claim itself? The claim needs them badly :) Another question: those cruises and vacation-like trips, were they of Lex's own money or some of the school's giveaways?

For the weapon, unfortunately, Deimos isn't part of the Underworld gods, so Lex can't have Stygian iron :)

We have a choice: to live or to exist.Harry styles png 10 by tectos-d5t9eu6

All done! I didn't add all of it, since much of it seemed to be clarification and no one who reads character histories reads them that critically anyway. Just know I did think it out and I do have answers.

Notmypresident (talk) 14:26, February 15, 2017 (UTC)

Sorry again for making you wait. But this is my last question: Where did lex get the staff with Celestial bronze? If that was the staff they bought on Amazon (keep the Amazons thought for now), how did the CB material get there? CB is rare, and only Olympus and Camp (and some of Hephaestus's forges) have them.

~june

I was going with it was something Lex picked up at Camp, but if I could say it was Jewel's and not have to provide an entire backstory for it I'd like to go with that :P (And just in case someone asks how Lex would have gotten it from Jewel, they would have picked it up off the ground.)

Notmypresident (talk)22:15, February 18, 2017 (UTC)

welp I see nothing wrong

You Have Been Claimed

Logo camp

This claim has been approved as Child of Deimos. You now need to make a page for them and a word bubble, if you aren't sure how to do this you can see the guide here. Once you have done that you can add your character's name to the cabin list located on the cabin pages and start role playing with your new character. If you have any questions feel free to ask a member of the Admin team.
