Parentage[]

Miguel Garćia had first met Athena when he was but a college student at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid - or rather, the "Complutense University of Madrid". He could see through the Mist, but of course, being a bit mad, nobody would listen to his tales of strange mythological beasts he claimed to see.

He was working in the field of Archaeology when he discovered the meaning of life - Chupa Chups.

Oh, and also - he discovered Olympus.

You see, a Chupa Chup looks round - but in reality, it has 12 slightly curved lateral faces, making it a Dodecagonal Hosohedron.

This accurately reflects the circular 12 faces of Olympus - and as a bonus, it works as a nice prism, almost perfectly replicating the iris rainbow connecting to the mortal realm!

He concluded that Chupa Chups were a modern symbol of Olympus - and he was right.

His contemporaries thought he knew nothing; he was a raving lunatic.

The gods thought he knew a little too much; they were exposed.

All except wise Athena, who knew better; he was brilliant.

After much argument with Morpheus, she came to Miguel through a dream as a mentor, telling him to pursue his rather strange interests. Through mind connection, a demigod daughter was conceived - whose story we tell now.

One night, an great owl flew to his solitary residence, a while after the first time. Owl messaging was his only contact with Athena.

So the larger-than-usual owl was carrying a basket, something accordingly heavier than usual. As the Owl drew closer, Miguel saw that it was not a basket at all, but a bronze-plated olivewood chest. As usual, he welcomed the Owl dearly, the symbol of his lover; and it was, in fact, his greatest lover herself.

The Great Owl morphed into the shape of a human - no, not a human, but a goddess. Athena.

"May the gods be praised!" Miguel exclaimed. "What treasure doth my dear bring forth today?"

"Oh, my sweetest Miguel," Athena said, embracing him. "But is it not a parting gift? 'Tis must be our sorrowful last reunion, for the otherwise is forbidden. For parting is such sweet sorrow - so hath I a great last gift. Our daughter."

Miguel was close to tears as he broke from the embrace. "But why, my dearest? Why must you leave me like this? An unmarried man found with a child of his own? This is scandalous! How can I be found in public?"

Athena put a finger to his lips. "Miguel, remember that I will always love you. Inside the Chest is not just our daughter, but many other things that will aid you in the future. There is a blessing and a curse - but it is for your good."

With that, she turned her back to him, transforming into an owl and leaving for what might very well be forever.

When he finally came to opening the chest, he did so with great care and caution; but even still the curse took immediate effect. There were many other things inside that even he could not recognize, but amongst them he found the child, even in infancy bearing likeness to him and Athena.

The blessing - that he would gain god-like wisdom and virtue. Miguel cried his very heart out that night. They say that, because of this, he was no longer a lunatic, his mind restored - and this was not just Athena's curse of a blessing.

And the curse - he would be a restless wanderer, never being able to settle in one place for long - but this was fine for him, for it aided Miguel much because due to the nature of his work, he was always on the move anyway. Because of this blessing of a curse, it made it all the easier for him to move. He could easily get used to a place, even for how short he would have to live there.

And so he named her Pauline, meaning "little". Because - well, we have no idea what his troubled, restored mind was thinking.

Growing up[]

As a child, Pauline would have to go wherever her father's next assignment was - and my, there were a lot of them! She thus has a lot of world experience, in culture, language, and the arts; but also exotic mythology. Instinctively knowing how to weave, she enjoys spending her free time making practical things like heavy-duty gloves of tough durabilty yet fine design, with intricate skill. She is knowledgable in the roots of her native Spain, a seafaring nation, so she has good bearings at sea. Being well-versed in different lines of naval, land, and hand-to-hand combat, she knows how to use almost any weapon - and for the ones she doesn't, it's only a matter of time.

First Monster Battle (Part 1)[]

(begin. story) Pauline and her Dad are on a week-long camping trip around the archaelogical site of Chichen Itza, Mexico. It ends on her twelfth birthday - July 14, 2015.  The afternoon sun blazes bright, seemingly hovering above the peak of El Castillo.

"Helios," Miguel mutters to himself, gazing longingly. "After the Fall of Rome, the Olympians moved on to these Amazonian civilizations; the Mayans built this temple in honor of their sun god, did you know that?"

"Of course I do," Pauline assures him sarcastically. "And that knowledge really helped, Dad."

"Definitely," her father grins. "Knowledge is power, and power is - nevermind. We should pack up camp before we go one last place we should go."

The camp had been strategically set up on the Southern face of the temple - so that the Sunrise and Sunset were visible from there, there was shade from the scorching midday heat - and also, they had the South Wind, Notus/Auster, literally on their side.

They climb their way to the summit of the towering temple, just in time to see the sun set on Chichen Itza for the last time. But as soon as they reach the top, blazing horses appear from out of nowhere, surrounding the structure. They encircle them tightly in a fiery circle, barricading the only way down - warning them that if they ventured a step too far, they'd be toast.

"The only way is down," Miguel observes. This is the day he had been dreading for the past twelve years.

"Great observation, Dad." Pauline says, picking up a deep red sword that must have been left behind by Spanish explorers. "We can't outsmart them. But we have to fight."

Upon hearing this, her father takes out a thick lens-like glass and focuses a last beam of sunlight into a bright spark, igniting a torch for each of them. "Take this. I think you have to defeat them on your own - to prove yourself or something," he says hesitantly.

When he sees his daughter's shocked expression, he assures her in their native tongue. "Mi hija. ¡Lucha y emerge victorioso! ¡Sé la Matadora!"

With that, Miguel takes Pauline to the top step. "Be careful. One wrong move and you're horse food."

Pauline, still in shock, manages to register the situation. Proceding down the steps silently with her torch and sword, she desperately tries to formulate a plan - but she can't seem remember any historical battles like this, surrounded without resources.

Never-mind, then. She thinks, smirking to herself. I can be the Matadora. I don't need a plan. Let's do this.

She nods to her father, and rushes into the fray, raising the torch. Like a trained Matador, she expertly dodges one of the horses charging at her - and gorges it in the side with a two-handed thrust.

One down, Three to go. She thinks, doing the same to another two horses - she jumps back at the last moment to attain a better vantage point, then strikes, skewing both. Three down, One to go.

The last one isn't so easy. Sneaking up on her flank, it charges from behind - and Pauline only just manages to duck and roll aside, but her torch and sword are lost.

It doesn't matter. I can handle this. I have to.

Disarmed and disoriented, Pauline manages to get to her feet. "Come at me, you damn horse," she says, backing up against the flat face of one of the walls.

The horse reacts as expected, thinking that she, being cornered, is an easy kill - but it is wrong.

Pauline flips back and does a double-footed kick, sending the confused horse to the ground.

She finishes it off with a limestone block, then passes out as the horses and their flames extinguish into nothingness.

Miguel is astonished. "You did well, daughter. You truly are my Matadora."

He carries Pauline and the Sword back and sets up the Tent again, and whistles to himself. "Feliz cumpleaños, mi hija. You did well. We're getting you to Camp tomorrow."

Getting to Camp (Part 2)[]

(cont. story)

The Garćias are in the safety of the enchanted tent - one of Athena's gifts to Miguel, it had proved extremely useful time and time again. Huddled warmly in blankets, Pauline wakes up to see the havoc wrecked by the strong winds just outside, brewing up a storm.

"Lucky we got back before the winds got a lot stronger," her father says, staring longingly out of the tent's viewing flap; though the visibility was zero, and it was the opposite direction of El Castillo.

Pauline tries to remember what happened, but she doesn't seem to recall anything recent. She looks around, and sees a crimson rapier, the color of the blood on its blade clashing with the metal - then remembers defeating the monsters.

"What next?" she asks her father, changing the subject. "Or rather, where next?"

"Hmm? Oh, yes. We need to get you to Camp."

"Camp!? Dad, you're forgetting something - we're already camping!"

"Oh no, not this campsite of our making," Miguel chuckles. "You'll see, you'll see."

He takes out a small wooden chest, so lifelike and real, just an extremely detailed miniscule image of a true one. He puts it near his mouth and speaks, "Crecer!"

The chest immediately increases in size, filling up a considerable amount of space that was only possible because they had already packed up - and Pauline is speechless in amazement.

"Your mother brought you to me in this box," Miguel whispers to Pauline as he takes a seat next to her. "You were so small..."

"Oh, so is that why you named me Pauline?" she interrupts to her father's confusion. "Doesn't my name mean 'little'?"

"Yes, yes. But I named you so for another reason. But... nevermind."

Miguel opens the chest as carefully as he did the first time he ever did - and takes out a giant bound scroll that was reminiscent of an Ancient Greek world map - but of the whole world. He examines it closely, than taps twice on a tiny dot right off the coast of New York. The map expands as if it was a digitalized display - but all in the compactness of the simple scroll. Much technology, Pauline thinks.

"That's Camp," he says calmly, pointing at a spot there. "Camp Half-Blood. Let's go there now."

"What?!" Pauline exclaims. "That's in... " - she squints - "Long Island, US! How are we supposed to get all the way there? That's impossible!"

Miguel smiles. "Welcome to the world of the gods. Nothing is imposssible."

(end. story)

Pauline is familiar with the locations in Camp, even though this is her first official summer there. From that first visit when she turned 12, just viewing the grounds from above, until this year as she turns 15, she can already navigate the Camp with ease.

As she and her father are currently living in Central America, namely regions of Mexico and Texas, this is quite a distance away from the Camp at Long Island, NY. This does not at all, in any way, make it any harder for her to get there; especially with the dedicated assistance of her great mother.

Notes[]

Offensive[]

  1. Children of Athena have the ability to see each specific pressure point on another person and are proficient at striking them in order to immobilize or greatly pain another person for a short time.
  2. Children of Athena are changed during battle and become stronger and quicker in combat than a normal human could achieve.

Defensive[]

  1. Children of Athena are able to generate loose materials or manipulate any loose materials found around them to weave a wall. The wall obstructs the view of anyone facing them, and also blunts attacks. However, it does not stop attacks entirely, it is only capable of slowing the attacks down (possibly say that the wall will cut like a bunch of woven stuff or something ~ spiders and what not).
  2. Children of Athena, using their inclinations of battle and strategy, can most of the time, predict the course of action an opponent attacking them will take, and and are able to dodge or parry accordingly. However, if the prediction is wrong this may cost the child of Athena dearly.

Passive[]

  1. Children of Athena have the innate ability of hyper-cognition. They are able to perform more complex mental operations than a normal human could achieve. They are able to process thoughts and learning far quicker than others with little cognitive effort.
  2. Children of Athena have innate battle reflexes which allows them to fight and dodge quickly.
  3. Children of Athena are able to communicate with and command owls. If the user gives too many commands, the owls will become frustrated and disobey.

Supplementary[]

  1. Children of Athena have the ability to empower strength and intelligence upon nearby allies and instil fear upon nearby enemies with a deafening war cry for a short time.
  2. Children of Athena have minor telepathic abilities, making them able to telepathically communicate with their allies and read the current thoughts of an opponent’s mind. But this mind reading does not always work.
  3. Children of Athena through telepathy are able to alter the moods of a person or group of people for a short time. They are able to make an ally calmer and more courageous or an opponent panicked or depressed. Once a target has suffered from this power, they become resistant to it for a moderate amount of time.
  4. Children of Athena can curse an opponent, temporarily ruining their ability to formulate battle strategies for a short time. With this curse, the target would only think up rather silly and quite awful strategies. This gives the user a chance to attack or flee. Ex: The target would fake a heart attack and fall back on the ground, thinking the user would believe it and give up on the fight.

3 Months After Character is Made[]

  1. Children of Athena, due to the strength of their minds, are gifted with the ability of clairvoyance. They are able gain information about an object, person, location or physical event through means other than the known human senses, for example beyond their normal sensory range or when unable to use their physical senses. Some techniques of clairvoyance are veridical dreaming, scrying and parasight.

6 Months After Character is Made[]

  1. Children of Athena can curse an opponent with severe stupidity and ignorance, temporarily stripping them of their intelligence and knowledge. The curse can cause an opponent to lose their common sense, fighting skill and tactical abilities. The target could even be unsure how to swing a sword or use their powers properly. After a short time, the curse will wear off and the target will regain their intelligence and knowledge. Their minds will be resistant to further use of the curse for a moderate time and the user will be substantially drained.

9 Months After Character is Made[]

  1. Children of Athena can turn into a normal sized owl of whichever species they select for a short period of time, allowing them flight. The user has the option to grow into a giant owl, it can be up to 2 to 3 times bigger than their size as a human. This will make the transformation more draining. As a giant owl, the user would be twice as fast as a normal owl mid-flight, be able to transport allies and possess a very loud scream. After the transformation, they are extremely drained. Unable to move and they could possibility faint.

Traits[]

  1. Children of Athena are normally very intelligent, wise and clever. Able to easily excel in school.
  2. Children of Athena tend to be very adept at weaving, pottery and other crafts.
  3. Children of Athena typically have the potential to become great soldiers, agents or generals. Able to perform remarkable feats within the Military.
  4. Children of Athena can grow up to make great scholars, teachers, professors and scientists.

Fatal Flaw[]

Wrath (Anger)

She punishes abusers of her trust and fiercely defends those she loves.

"Go on, challenge me if you'd like. I assure you, the only one going down is you."

Go figure.

Weapon[]

Pauline, being a child of Athena, can comfortably adapt to using any given weapon; however, she prefers to wield her Celestial Bronze Sword (reminiscent of a Spanish Rapier), Matanza, that her father gave her on her twelth birthday - the day she defeated a monster and visited Camp. It conveniently transforms into anything she wants.

Crisis Core Rapier-Slay

Matanza (or "Bloodbath"), her Celestial Bronze Sword

Notes[]

  • In Pauline's homeland of Spain, legend has it that the Owl was once the sweetest of singers, until it saw Jesus crucified. Ever since it has shunned daylight and only repeats the words 'cruz, cruz' ('cross, cross').

Hey, I'm Flopfish and I'll help with your claim today. I'm still recovering from brain surgery and my nurse is helping me write, so bear with me.

  • Please add more about Miguel meeting Athena, them having the child, etc.
  • How does Miguel know about camp?
  • How can Miguel see the fire-breathing horses? Does he have the clear sight?
  • Please add more about Pauline going to camp.
  • Minor, but maybe a little detail about Pauline growing up?
  • Mastering the art of adapting to any weapon seems unlikely and overpowered - change wording?
  • Why would the gods think Miguel is a threat?

Thank you! I forget how to add my signature right now, but I'm Flopfish3 (being helped with writing and grammar by my nurse Candice).

Hey there! You're very close, but you still need to add one detail. How precisely did Pauline get to camp for the first time, and how did her father know about camp in the first place? After you add that I think your character should be ready to go!

Also, quick heads up - on the wiki we're only allowed to have one claim pending at a time, so next time it would be better to wait for your current claim to be finished before starting another. I think it'll be ok this time around since you're already very close to having Pauline claimed, so don't worry about it too much, but just remember for next time. Cheers!

Flopfish3 (talk) 17:36, September 8, 2018 (UTC)

First and Foremost i'd like to introduce myself, considering your a level two user now and we haven't had the pleasure of an introduction. I'm ~The Musician~ and i'll be your claim checker for the day.

  • In regards to Pauline's creation, How did she come to show up on her fathers doorstep? I assume he and Athena had a thing at some point but all that is mention is her showing up to him in a dream but, that doesn't lead up to Pauline getting to his doorstep. While i'm not asking for explicit detail of how she came into the world, please add further detail on Miguel's and Athena's relationship. (Please note that Athena doesn't have children through normal means. Instead they sprout from her mind just as she did with Zeus.)
  • While i admire your creativity in how she first got to camp unfortunately, the method would be considered Direct interference from the godly parent which is a big no no in Canon and also a policy we hold on the wiki. Kindly come up with a different method of her getting to camp without the help of Athena.
  • Question: how long did Pauline stay at camp when she was there? Meaning, how long was her stay before she'd leave and then come back. Would she stay weeks at a time? or maybe one week? and also how often did she return? i only ask because of a metagaming policy, stating a character could not have been at camp prior to being claimed - unless with an admins permission.

Note: I'm more than capable of giving the green light i just need more details, regarding my last note. Also, it isn't something that you need to add to your history or change it for. I simple explanation under my comment or an IM would be fine c:

for now that's it c:

This claim has been approved as a child of Athena. You now need to make a page for them and a word bubble, if you aren't sure how to do this you can see the guide here. Once you have done that you can add your character's name to the cabin list located on the cabin pages and start role playing with your new character. If you have any questions feel free to ask a member of the Admin team.
