Not every love story has a happy start or a happy end. Promises are often broken. Flattery leads to certain death. People change. Yet, at the times we seem so shattered, our loneliness attempts to reach out for warmth and our hearts transcend to its most susceptible stage. For the sake of healing, we then accept those we normally wouldn’t. These sensibilities are what Ashley Knight, daughter of Nyx, had experienced decades ago.
One silent summer night was the second to the last viewing of Jeremy Knight’s casket. In midst of the still cemetery, his daughter was approached by a man named Oxford. Under a black umbrella, the fragmented woman shared her laments and grieved her heart out. While she was too weak to resist, Oxford had felt immense pity for the girl and left her untouched. The man urged himself to never see her again.
A year later, the two’s next fateful meeting was in London’s Jewel House heist. Attempting to seize the Sovereign's Sceptre with Cross, Ashley Knight almost had her head served to the Queen. Bullets were fired simultaneously, and just before a headshot could be made, a cloak of darkness had sheathed the daughter of Nyx. It was not hers. Transported to her estate, the infamous burglar immediately recognized her savior. The intense black eyes, albino skin, evil charisma, and imposing build belonged Oxford, or Hades. The intensely charmed Lord of the Underworld revealed his identity and asked for a date.
Despite being mindful of the gods’ intentions, the daughter of Nyx agreed. She was too lonely and in need of healing. The two dated for approximately two years before Hades gained bedding rights. Once he did, the lord had impregnated the lady, left a gift for his son, and vanished. To verify her memories, the revived Ashley Knight was then left with her life, a child, a box, and the genuine Sovereign's Sceptre with Cross.
A Japanese-Irish boy was then born on the 13th of March in London, United Kingdom. He was named Cody Zadkiel after the angel of mercy, an act his father had shown his mother. The child carried his father’s dark eyes and his mother’s alluring charisma – much to his advantage in later life.
At a tender age, his mother started to teach him her legacy. For starters, the son of Hades was schooled in special tricks: forms of escape, concealed items, and even plain flirtation. Cody was also trained in acting and thievery, his mother’s specializations. Often times, the child actor would return from a movie set and accompany his mother to the alleyways of jewelry museums; however, until the boy was 10, he stayed at home to watch films of his mothers’ heists. The inquisitive child spent his free time in the company of Doyle’s Holmes; howbeit, being as thrill-seeking as he is, Cody merely prepared himself for the future. Since Cody was a gifted child to the extent of being invited by MESA, his training felt too simple.
When Cody was 10-years-old, one of his houses was purposely burned. Ashley Knight had wished to dedicate her time to her son; thus, arson was feigned, and she was presumed dead. To make things more realistic, she had not told her son, which caused a river of tears from Cody. Due to Jameson’s, the family butler, existence, Cody was not taken away by social services. Ashley had protected her son from various monsters, such as the boy’s first (a dracnae). As his mother continued her double life as a thief, her son pursued his acting career.
Months after losing contact with their friends, the catastrophic news soon reached the Knights, a close family friend of the Ember’s family. Having syndication as an equal ground, a search for Ember Glass was done. The daughter of Zephyrus found, adopted into, and loved by the Knight household, which comprised of a daughter of Nyx, son of Apate, and son of Hades.
When they were thirteen, Cody couldn't stand his friend Ember being so homesick. After forging letter for a week study tour in a foreign country, the children were permitted to travel to New Zealand with James. Upon seeing the familiar structure, the son of Hades was then reminded of a conversation between him and Ember’s biological mother. At this time, the special discovery would lead to a name-changing event.
Years ago, Kaylee had predicted her limited time; thus, she entrusted a secret to the nine-year-old son of Hades, who was the only close friend Ember had. Remembering so, Cody led Ember to the library and turned the grandfather clock’s hands to midnight. The second the bells rang, the walls moved, and a descending stairway was revealed. This was Kaylee Glass’ secret chamber. The trio ventured and found documents, diaries, and… a main letter addressed to Ember. The contents of the letter revealed her heritage. Her well-aware mother, who believed conflict was not necessary, never claimed Ember away from Kayla. Beside the letter was the box Zephyrus had given. Other worthwhile mentions were her mother’s childhood comb, annual tape recorded words until Ember reached 35, jewelry, and actual priceless paintings. Some belongings were sent home to London, while some will soon be decorated in her room in the Zephyrus cabin.
In a trip to the countryside, the teens had their first feud. Bickering over jealousy issues, the two were attacked by three flesh-eating sheep. Aphrodite, who assumed the two to be a couple, supported them from the sidelines. Although the children were well-trained, they were still outnumbered. Apart from the corpse and wind army, Fujin (Ember’s kusarigama) and Inferno (Cody’s hooked swords) were able to disintegrate the wild beasts. Together, the friends defeated the harpy. Unfortunately, after the battle, Cody was immediately hospitalized.
While they were in the hospital, Ember found a map and a letter in Cody's coat pocket. The infuriating sheet was sealed with a kiss of Aphrodite. Before destroying the items with Fujin, Ember examined them. She had noticed the similarity between the current map and the one in her mother’s jewelry box. Once Cody had awakened, the family had a short meeting. The two, after being approved by their mother, then knew where they had to go.
As the two arrived in New York, they were cornered by a four-member team of Cyclopses. If it weren’t for a group of huntresses, the two would’ve ended their lives. Soon enough, Artemis separated herself from the group, took only Ember into her tent, and asked her girl to join the hunt. Despite her stern no, Ember was insisted by Artemis to reconsider by the next evening and given the goddess’ calling card.
The next evening, the two teens had another feud; this time, about the card. One thing led to another, and Ember stood in front of Artemis to reject the offer again. Luckily, before the huntress could explode, Aphrodite appeared and confronted the her about Ember’s real answer. As expected, the two goddesses again bickered about maidenship and love. Love wins, right? Aphrodite took the children into her car and proudly sermonized her generosity and beliefs. Soon enough, the two passed the borders and were claimed as a daughter of Zephyrus and son of Hades respectively.
