Alex Reed was a man in his early 40s. He worked as an environmentalist. This caught Demeter's attention. One day, Demeter walked up to him in her human form while he was working. They talked and talked about the environment and agriculture. They agreed on several things, including the promotion of safer environments and walking to places. Alex offered to take Demeter out for a drink. She accepted his invitation and they went to a cafe and ordered their drinks. The next day, they did similar things. This continued for about two weeks. Then, they took it up a notch. They would kiss and even make out from time to time. Eventually, they took it even further. Alex brought her to his house, and they ended up going all the way. When Alex woke up, however, he found an empty bed and a letter. The letter said:
Dear Alex,
I apologize for leaving so early, but I have to return to my duties, and I am not allowed to stay with a mortal for long periods of time. You see I am a goddess. I know it may be hard to believe, but I am one. I am a goddess, more specifically, the goddess of Agriculture. The things I said to you weren't lies. They were the truth, they just weren't the full truth. You can't tell anyone about me. My world must be stayed a secret. I am trusting you to keep this secret, but if I find that you can't be trusted, I'll have to wipe your memory of this. I am sorry I had to leave you, but in nine months, I expect to have a child, and when I do, I will send him or her to you, and you will have to raise him or her at your home, for I can not raise him or her on Olympus.

As promised, Alex found, nine months later, a baby boy on his front stoop. He brought the child in and decided to name him James after his father. Alex raised James well, he taught him how to grow plants and use less water. He also taught James why preserving the environment was necessary. When James was five, Alex took him down to the Washington DC Botanical Gardens. He explained to James what each of the plants were. He would also tell James Greek Mythology stories, especially ones about Demeter.
When James was 10, Alex took him camping out in the woods. When James was 12, he encountered some Stymphalian Birds that were sitting on the tree branch, waiting to attack. Alex spotted the before hand and blasted an old punks song from his stereo and shot them with the bow and arrows Demeter gave him when James was 6. James didn't really think anything of it because his dad always liked to play loud music and didn't notice the bow and arrows because he was too busy finding he football his dad had thrown somewhere while they were playing. When James was 13, he had his first official attack. James was outside playing with his father when a harpy flew down. Alex fired at the harpy with the bow and arrows. He fired again and again and again. Finally, the harpy dissolved. James looked at his father confused. "What in the world was that?" he asked.
Alex sighed. He explained to James that the Greek Mythologies were real. He told James that his mother was a goddess, and he also told him that they needed to get him to camp. They drove to camp. They were chased by two hellhounds. Alex shot them both, and they dissolved when the third and fourth arrow hit them each. James crossed the border and waved his dad goodbye. James was claimed by Demeter later that day. James decided to stay at camp all year round because his sent was too strong. James turned 14 about three weeks after his arrival.Demeter is known to being one of the most peaceful goddess on Olympus, right next to Hestia. Demeter is noted for being more peaceful and not a big fan of war. She is known for being one of the last Olympians to declare war on something. I have read in several wikis, and even Rick Riordan said himself that Demeter is the more peaceful one out of the bunch.
