Fire Arena

Fire arena
  • At first glance the arena seems to be hills of lush vegetation surrounded by some sort of fog, however on closer inspection, it is really islands of vegetation and hills suspended over lava rivers and fire beneath, so watch your step, the fog isn't fog at all but steam from where there are streams flowing off the sides of the islands and down onto the lava below.
  • On the top level of the arena it is open to the air above, and has lush green vegetation and hills, lots of shadows, lots of places to hide. Some of the islands are only a few feet across, more like stepping stones, while some are quite large, the central one being the largest with a Greek style building at the top.
  • Within the Greek style building there are a few 6 foot tall Greek statues
  • Beneath the "islands" the lava an fire below are broken apart by rocky areas that are free of lava and fire
  • There are some stone steps leading down towards the lava/fire beneath at various points
  • The arena is open to the sky and elements

Pre-Fight

Round Two
Character: Aria Shen

Opponent: Alaska Eira Jansen

Arena: Fire Arena

Possessions: Backpack (containing a tactical flashlight, a water bottle, a miniature first-aid kit, and ambrosia squares) and CB sword

Outfit: Gray hoodie, basketball shorts, running shoes, no armor

After defeating her previous opponent, Aria felt drained, both physically and emotionally. She had just killed another living creature--a Cyclops--and even if he had been created to be her enemy, Aria didn't think he deserved such a violent death at her hands. Upon the conclusion of her first battle, she had been whisked away directly to this new arena, where she'd been waiting for what seemed like hours. Although the wait was dreary, at least it had given her a chance to recover her energy and her spirits.

The gods had deposited Aria within the Greek building located on the largest floating island. Expecting her opponent to appear soon after her, Aria had initially remained on high alert, ready to face whatever monster the gods would throw at her next. But after half an hour without any new activity, she figured that the gods were granting her a rest period before her next fight. After snacking on an ambrosia square to heal her scrapes and cheer her up, Aria dusted off her clothes and examined her surroundings. The arena was well-lit and open to the sky, but some parts of it were obscured by steam. Layers upon layers of verdant landmasses floated above fiery streams, which crisscrossed the barren bottom level of the arena. Aria's flight abilities would definitely be useful in surviving this terrain. She explored this surreal environment for about an hour, then returned to her starting position on the largest island for the remaining amount of time. To ease the tedium, Aria flew up to the roof of the Greek building and languidly watched the clouds drift by. This is really relaxing! But I can't let my guard down too much. My opponent could appear at any moment, she mused, gazing up at the soft blue sky. Halcyon moments like these were transient, and sooner or later Aria would have to return to the cold reality of battle.

I'm not heartless; I've just learned to use my heart less.

After killing the hideous, demonic crab, Alaska wished the game would end. She's done defeating her opponent. But she was jinxed. Immediately after healing herself, she was whisked away into another arena, and landed on a small, floating island that bloomed with blue and red flowers. White stones were scattered all around the place. Fog covered the area. Or is it really fog?

With her ripped jeans and filthy shirt, she walked towards the edge and tried to wave away the vapour. It surely wasn't fog. Heat rose from below, touching her face as if it was wanting to pull her down and burn herself in the fiery lava just underneath her. She moved away and scanned the area, alert for any opponent sent to, well, maybe destroy her. More suspended islands dotted the above the magma streams that flowed viciously below. She knew very well that fire wasn't her best element, yet the floating islands and the light given off by the fire kind of gave her an advantage.

Checking if her weapons were with her, and she had them, she called for a rainbow and transported to the other side of the arena, landing on another small island. It was very well all the same, but this time, she didn't know why she knew the opponent would be waiting. Never ready, she again transported to herself by a rainbow and stepped onto the centre island, the largest of them. She walked around, observant, and discerned the Greek building. No pays, you're gonna lose so you'd finish this immediately, she told herself. Part of her wanted to fight, but going back to her usual spot in Camp tempted her. Now that you're here, you couldn't care more, Alaska. Just shut this all up.

Somehow, she knew that she'd always end the fight, lose or not. She saw someone standing on the roof of the building, and Alaska called for her fans of war.

Character's Powers

Powers of a Daughter of Iris

Offensive

  1. Children of Iris have the ability to conjure a weapon out of pure rainbows which can be used for combat; however, only one weapon can be conjured at a time and it can only be up to 2 or 3 times the size of the user.
  2. Children of Iris have the ability to focus an intense beam of prismatic light which will burn anything it touches.

Defensive

  1. Children of Iris are able to create a protective dome of rainbows for a short time.
  2. Children of Iris have the ability to conjure a large orb made of pure rainbows around an opponent. The orb would successfully imprison an opponent for a short time. The orb is quite durable, but could be broken through with sufficient force. The orb cannot be teleported out of. The target cannot be attacked while the orb is in place, so the power is purely defensive. It can only be used twice in a battle.

Passive

  1. Children of Iris can send telepathic messages to their allies and receive their replies.
  2. Children of Iris are stronger whenever a rainbow can be seen in the sky.
  3. Children of Iris heal faster whenever their surroundings are bright, able to absorb the photons and regenerate.

Supplementary

  1. Children of Iris have the ability to cause a massive rainbow to crash down in front of them; which can be used offensively, defensively or any other way imagined.
  2. Children of Iris are able to "rainbow" travel, where they can travel into a rainbow and come out somewhere else, similar to an iris message, but instead of only being able to talk, the child of Iris can actually use it to teleport themselves
  3. Children of Iris have the ability to split the light of a rainbow into seven beams which can be redirected in order to light an area or even blind people.
  4. Children of Iris can bend or shift light particles to create a mirage for a specific time. Since Iris could be considered a light goddess. The mirage will not differentiate from friend or foe. The longer or the greater the mirage is, the more energy is drained.

3 Months After Character is Made

  1. Since their mother was considered a goddess of the sky and sea, her children gain some control over both aspects. They can control the winds to increase their speed and lower that of an opponent’s and move water with their minds if they wish. They can fly and become able to breathe underwater for a moderate time.

6 Months After Character is Made

  1. Children of Iris are able to create up to 3 semi-living constructs out of pure rainbows to fight for them for a short time, the constructs can be no larger than 2 to 3 times the size of the user. They will follow the command of the user and the longer they are kept and the more that are made, the more energy is drained

9 Months After Character is Made

  1. Children of Iris have the ability to shed their flesh and turn into a state a state of pure light with various colors for a short time and while in this state, the user is granted flight, immune to all attacks, receive a boost in their already existing photokinetic abilities and anything they touch is intensely burned; however, once the user changes back they will be extremely drained, nauseated and immobile for a long time and could faint.

Traits

  1. Children of Iris usually have outgoing and colorful personalities.
  2. Children of Iris do not need drachmas to send iris messages.
  3. Children of Iris are normally in better moods whenever the sky is clear
  4. Children of Iris often exhibit a fondness for bright colors.

Round Two

A shout alerted Aria to the arrival of her opponent. A very human shout--from a very human opponent. What the Hades was going on? Given that her first match was against a monster, Aria had expected to be facing another mythological creature this round. Were the gods pitting her in a death match against another demigod instead? Or was this all a misunderstanding? None of the gods in the throne room had been very clear on the format of this tournament. They said this would be similar to Cries of War, but I have no clue what that was like, she internally bemoaned. The demigod in the arena with her could be her teammate, for all Aria knew. Well, there's a chance, albeit minuscule, that she's not here to kill me, and I should probably figure that out before I start waving a sword around, she sighed.

Aria peered over the edge of the roof and scrutinized her potential opponent. Her face looked somewhat familiar. Was this girl another camper? "Um, hi!" Aria called down, keeping a wary eye on the bronze fans in the girl's hands. "I'm Aria, from Camp Half-Blood. And if memory serves me correctly, you're from Camp, too. Do you know if we're supposed to work together? Or are we supposed to fight each other?" she asked, surreptitiously crouching down to make herself a smaller target. Just in case.

The girl on the roof saw her, and even said hi. Was I that ridiculously noisy? But if she didn't know what to do, how much more did Alaska? She shrugged at the girl. "I have no certain idea, Aria. I'm Alaska. And yes, I'm from Camp." Walking a bit closer yet cautiously, she closed her fans and looked around. Hades no, she wouldn't want another demigod to be her opponent. If ever, how was their battle supposed to end?

She shook her head. This is totally ridiculous. She sighed and looked up at Aria. "Any idea on what to do in this place?" she asked.

Bummer.

Round Two

Right now Aria would have loved nothing more than to hold an amicable conversation with Alaska, but deep within her psyche, she had an inkling that the gods would be extremely displeased with both of them for that. Aria was growing uneasier with every moment she spent chatting and not fighting, and she suspected that her potential opponent was having the same feelings about the situation. Maybe the gods were sending them a message? Now that Aria thought about it, Melinoe had mentioned something about the gods wanting to honor the competitive spirit of Halloween with this tournament. And defying the gods' will by refusing to compete would be an easy ticket to Tartarus. Darn it. Looks like I'll be fighting another demigod after all, she noted bleakly.

Disillusioned, Aria sighed, "Unfortunately, I get the feeling that we're supposed to fight each other. But from the way the gods in the throne room phrased it, I think they want to see a duel, not a death match." She gazed somberly down at her fellow camper. Alaska didn't seem like the pugnacious type, but looks could be deceiving, as Aria knew from experience. She could only hope that her opponent was willing to play by the same terms. "Standard duel rules, then? No headshots, no lethal attacks, and the fight ends either when one of us surrenders or when there's a clear victor?"

Awaiting her opponent's confirmation, Aria slid off of the roof and landed about 5 meters across from Alaska. She's got a hint about my powerset now. I've got to work on deciphering hers. She materialized her CB sword and, grasping her weapon before her, assumed a defensive stance. "Ready when you are!"

The girl was right. So another camper, huh? How nice, gods. Aria could fly. So basically, she could be a wind god's child. Aeolus? Boreas? Zephyrus? she guessed. She even assumed it might not be any of the wind gods. Nevertheless, she took her fans and opened one of them, acting like a shield, the other a blade. "I'm never ready! I just go to fight whenever there is one!" she shouted to Aria and took on defensive stance after checking everything. "Start whenever!"

Battle

Aria: Both Aria and Alaska seemed reluctant to make the first move, Aria noted. Personally, she preferred to start defensively whenever possible, gauging her opponents' habits and special abilities before retaliating. But if both of them just stood here, waiting and waiting, this fight would never begin. Well, I suppose I need to leave my comfort zone from time to time. It'll be alright, Aria reassured herself. I've got a plan. Guess it's on me to attack first, then, she reasoned. Without delay, she closed the distance between Alaska and herself, testing the waters with a simple downward sweep aimed at her opponent's shins. Since her sword had a greater reach than Alaska's fans, Aria made sure to stand close enough for her to reach Alaska, but far enough that Alaska would have difficulty reaching her. After she finished her downward stroke, Aria shuffled sideways, grasping her sword in her right hand and keeping her left hand free. Depending on her opponent's next actions, it might come in... handy for the next part of her plan.

Alaska: I have never been waiting for this. As Aria got closer, Alaska heightened all her senses. Defense. She twirled one of her fans and turned sideways, avoiding her opponent's attack and returned to her defense stance. Immediately, she threw one of her fans at Aria. With it as a bit of distraction, she ran towards her and slashed at her side, carefully covering her body with the fan.

Aria: As one of Alaska's fans whirled toward her, Aria extended her left arm, channeling her gravity powers to pin the weapon to the ground. That's one less thing to worry about--for the next few minutes, at least. But, preoccupied with defending herself against one fan, Aria had left herself exposed to the other! With her left arm outstretched, she could only deflect attacks from her right flank. If her opponent were to attack from her left flank, her own left arm would impede her blocking motion. Unfortunately, Alaska was attacking from her left. In belated realization, Aria attempted to dodge the path of the weapon, but the sharp fan edge tore through her sleeve and sliced across her left forearm. From what Aria could see and feel, her wound wasn't dangerously deep, but it was by no means a mere graze. Blood began to trickle from it, staining the rest of her sleeve a dark red. Aaaaaaaaah, crap! Aria grit her teeth and forced back a scream. Taking several deep breaths, she concentrated all of her willpower to clear her mind and stay out of shock. I can't afford to slip up like this again, gah! Stay calm, stick to the plan, and soon I'll be able to treat this wound, she told herself, willing her eyes to stop tearing up. I refuse to let just one cut stop me! With that mantra in her mind, Aria folded her injured arm in front of her, which would keep it out of the path of her sword arm, and used her powers to lighten its gravity until it floated at shoulder level. Elevating the wound will ease the bleeding. Then she fired a brief burst of plasma at Alaska, backpedaling to put some distance between them in the process.

Alaska: She willed her fan to come back flying at her. It wobbled, but didn't move a single inch from the ground. What the .  . Then a realization hit her. Gravity powers? Moving that thought aside, she looked up at her work. A pretty good hit. I'm going to get that fan back soon. Somehow, that hit gave her a little bit of time to think. In that little time, she tried assuming who Aria's godly parent was and what would be her next move. Unfortunately, being too caught up in the moment than she expected. Belatedly realizing Aria, Alaska barely got out of the way of her plasma attack. It scorched a bit of her right forearm, forcing her to back away. Stupid hell! It's searing! Taking the light around her, created by the fire below, she tried to heal herself a bit faster and tried cheering herself up, which she was not good at. On her count, she dashed at Aria. Once she's near enough for a clash of swords, she instantly turned the fan in her left hand into a gleaming sword, striking at her opponent.

Aria: As she hastily ran backwards, Aria winced, not only because she'd jostled her arm, but also because she caught a glimpse of how nastily she'd burned Alaska. I'm so sorry it had to come to this! A flash of silver deflected sunlight into Aria's eyes, disorienting her for a moment, and when she regained her bearings, she saw that Alaska had turned her fan into... a shiny sword? Crap. In an outright swordfight, Aria's open wound would put her at a disadvantage--she would have to focus both on keeping her arm elevated and on protecting it from her opponent's attacks. Wielding a sword with only one arm would also make it easier to disarm her. Time to change tactics. First, she needed to put some distance between Alaska and herself. To avoid Alaska's attack, Aria jumped upwards with as much force as she could muster. Then, she used her powers to give her an extra vertical boost, landing on the roof of the Greek building once again. From her higher vantage point Aria fired another short plasma burst, aiming at her opponent's reflective weapon. I've really gotta conserve my power usage after this, ooh. I'm going to become exhausted if I keep this up, and then even adrenaline won't be able to save me.

Alaska: She almost outbalanced herself and would've fallen face-first on the ground if she had let her adrenaline rush get the best of her in that moment. She looked up at Aria, now standing atop of the Greek-styled building. The pain she felt in her seared forearm seemed to disappear slowly. Cursing at everything, specifically at how foolish she was in deciding to join such a game, she set her sword in front of her, defending her from her opponent above. She gritted her teeth, and took a short glance at her surroundings. Aria blasted another plasma beam at her. Alaska darted aside - almost burning herself again - and immediately called for a rainbow. One crashed down in front of her. Before riding with it, she took a handful of dirt in her left hand and disappeared with the rainbow. Now that's a hint on who my mother is. She appeared closely above Aria and she threw the dust she has at her. Evading Aria, she landed on the roof near her opponent and kneeled one one knee to avoid rolling downward. She stretched her left hand out, her other fan spiraling towards her.
