First and foremost, Jordi is a guy who likes things done his way. Perhaps this capricious attribute of his is due to the fact that he’s from Zeus’ kin, or perhaps because he was raised as the the son of a demanding businessman. Either way, Jordi has developed alongside this a penchant for being ordered, detail-oriented and disciplined all the way from his childhood. Ever since he was just a kid, his parents would encourage him to be the best at everything he did, which became into an adopted obsession of his overtime and translated into his competitiveness and a constant pressure to perform even better than his best. Due to experiencing this internal and external pressure as he grew up, he developed anxiety.
Even to this day, he admires his father to a flaw, and would do almost everything to make him proud of him. Always one to reach for his dreams, Jordi is an ambitious and insightful youth, and an innate leader, at that. Thanks to all his privilege and his ease at climbing the social ladder, Jordi is arrogant albeit not boastful; outgoing in casual contexts, yet standoffish whenever he feels that someone’s trying to actually get close to him. He’s learnt how to put up the perfect-boy façade, so many people are jealous of him. However, he’s the one that actually envies most people who lead simple lives and don’t feel so much pressure, because there have been instances when he’s cracked from keeping up with his self-made image.
Being part of the elite isn’t easy. This was something that Caterina Benavent had constantly heard on repeat as she grew up. That being said, Caterina didn’t pay such things much attention. She was a beautiful young woman in her twenties who happened to be a marquise by title in the Spanish royalty.
She found the whole system frankly old-fashioned, but she couldn’t deny the privilege it endowed her with. Perhaps the only problem she had with it was that her and her family’s life was pretty much public, and she absolutely detested the spotlight.
She lived in Barcelona, as it was accustomed for her lineage, but it was in a banquet that she caught the eye of a surging businessman in Mataró, not too far away. For his relatively young age (he was barely entering his thirties), he was already quite accomplished, having garnered the control over three different companies and already having strong investments in the stock market.
Given her public resistance to marry someone else with a title despite her royal heritage, her parents were happy to see that man who was courting her was a respected one that could have her keep her title and live well-off if they were to marry each other.
This man, Joan Delmàs, always treated Caterina with respect, but he was a bit overbearing at times and she wasn’t ready to get married. She did appreciate his attentions and even was fond of him, but it was obvious to the people close to them that he was the only one in love.
But Caterina wasn’t only the well-behaved marchioness she was believed to be. Perhaps as an act of rebellion, or merely for the thrill of being caught and getting attention, she had been an occasional show girl and performer in El Fuet Blau, a small cabaret in the outskirts of Barcelona. Even she found astounding what contact lenses, a wig, and a caked-up face with make-up could do.
She would never get physical with clients —she wasn’t that dumb, at least— but she was known by the audience for her sporadical performances, her teasing, and the quality of them. Her relationship with Joan made it harder for her to pursue her escapades, but she still did them when she had the time. She knew, however, that if she were to become a married woman, these ambitions of hers would have to cease altogether, and what seemed to be the only thing that could help her escape from her reality, would suddenly be no more.
That was, of course, until Zeus showed up in her life. Maybe it was the fact that her relationship with Joan had come to a dead end, or maybe it was that he just kept asking her to marry him and she would always ask for more time, delaying the inevitable, or that finally she’d snapped altogether and had decided to go for the bigger risk and thrill of sleeping with another man in this persona she’d built of for herself. She really didn’t know, but the fact was seeing Zeus in the middle of that dark-lit cabaret, with so much personality and power emanating off of him, Caterina knew he would be the man with whom she’d have a wild night.
His power seemed so raw yet undeniable. Not like Joan, who despite having a strong character and stern face for business, melted into mush wherever he saw Caterina. It was a constant power, and she felt immediately drawn to it. Besides, he’d never been at Fuet Blau and she doubted he’d ever return. Zeus, on his part; was just looking for a fun time to relieve of his duties as king of Olympus. Her teasing, her body, her gracefulness... he could even see the thrill, the enjoyment of her performance behind that thick layer of make up.
It would be lying to say that neither expected what happened next: the flirting, the touching and the consequential act in the corner of a dark, dead-end alley that ended in the conception of Jordi.
Luckily for Caterina, she noticed the symptoms very early into the pregnancy. She tried taking a last-minute pill, but it was way too late. She couldn’t abort, for she ran the risk of it being published to the media and creating a scandal, but keeping the baby as a maiden would end up with the same results.
Defeated, she knew what she’d have to do to ensure her family’s name remained untarnished. Caterina cunningly agreed to Joan’s marriage proposal, and afterwards offered him what she’d been depriving him off for so long: a night together.
The marriage plans ensued at a drastic pace, and the happy couple got married not even four months into the baby’s conception. Naturally, Joan always believed it to be his, and Caterina never denied it. He didn’t have a reason to believe otherwise, as he’d been told Caterina was a virgin until the night of their engagement.
And so, it was that upon giving birth to Jordi, he adopted Joan’s surname. Having ties the know already with the woman of his dreams, Joan went back to being the strict businessman he’d always been.
Ever since Jordi was a child, Joan would always push him to be the best at everything. He taught him of discipline, constance, order and every attribute he knew his son would need to eventually take over his business empire. If Jordi’s ever finished second best at something, then Joan would ground him, and if he complained, the situation only worsened.
Caterina, having received a similar education from her parents, never intervened and even encouraged Jordi to do the same.
This developed a ruthless sense of competition in the young boy, which consequently left him without many friends, as no one wanted to be friends with such a kid. But it was in Jordi’s nature to be extroverted, so that lack of company really affected him, and he promised himself that despite his flaws, as he grew up he would come to be popular and then others would want to be his friends.
And so it happened. It wasn’t immediate; in fact, it was a slow process. Even during middle school he still had a bit of a hard time biting his tongue to stop himself from saying stuff he shouldn’t, and to also learn what to say to be liked, but it was honestly not that difficult. It just took getting used to.
It was also during middle school that he experienced his first monster attack. He had assisted one of his parents’ grand events, which took place in one of their friends’ mansions, and had been told not to interrupt the adults, so he’d left the large household momentarily. Even in the dark, myrmekes could smell demigods but that was something he didn’t know about.
A stray myrmeke caught a whiff of the demigod as he exited the place and went for a stroll, so it caught up to him and tried to kill him. Jordi had no idea of his heritage or what the hell was attacking him, but he knew that whatever it was, he needed to act fast so as not to die. He ran and tried losing the myrmeke, but the monster was nimble and Jordi noticed that it spit acid. He knew he needed a better strategy.
After running for a while, he noticed that a house was under construction, and he ran inside, trying to hide from the giant ant. His scent was of no help, however, and it soon found the cowering demigod behind a cement counter. The animal growled, and Jordi went beneath some scaffolding, believing the ant wouldn’t fit, but boy was he wrong. The myrmeke, excited for its next meal, started spitting acid everywhere, catching Jordi’s heel and parts of the scaffolding in the process. By the time that Jordi went out of the other side of the metal structure, its bases were all-too-weak due to the acid and they collapsed on top of the myrmeke. He tried to look for a carcass, or something to make sure the monster was dead, but he only found a cloud of golden dust in its stead.
He came back home to the party and his parents chastised him for arriving all dirty, sweaty, and with parts of is clothes torn, and while he brought himself to telling them the truth, the adults were quick to dismiss the story as false.
With middle school over, he then moved on to high school, which was where he started thriving. He’d learned how to make friends, how to be nice to others when needed, and competitive and aloof only in very specific situations. He was part of a large group of friends and he seemed to take the position of the de facto leader. The problem came when he started having heated discussions with his father (well, Joan, who he believed to be his father, anyways), but the latter always seemed to pressure Jordi to deliver more, and more, and more until it came to a moment when he was being picked on at school, and the seemingly trivial act ended up on him snapping and beating the other kid up.
Obviously, Jordi was expelled, and the few other schools in Mataró wouldn’t have him, so it was agreed by his parents that he’d send them over to his uncle’s house in Barcelona where he would study in a nearby school. Gerard, his uncle, was rather absent because he was usually found out and about making deals with other politically-inclined figured of the Catalan high society, so Jordi mostly spent time with his wife, Clarissa.
It wasn’t even two months in that he was attacked another time around, when returning home from buying the groceries with Clarissa. She, however, was a legacy of Poseidon, and while monster attacks weren’t very common for her, she was always prepared. She got rid of the giant scorpion rather easily, but upon noticing the horrified Jordi at the true sight of the monster, she understood that he was of godly heritage as well.
She explained everything to him, what with the whole Greek lore being true and such, but Jordi had a hard time believing it. Still, she decided to give him a watch that turned into a trident; her favourite weapon. She kept to herself a small sword. This encounter, though, greatly strengthened his bond with Clarissa and they became a very happy relationship. Both she and Gerard weren’t as demanding of him, as long as he always did his part, and this helped him become much more relaxed in and outside of school.
It was also that very year in school that he met Fabián. This time around, his friend group wasn’t as big as the last one, but it was definitely more solidified. He’d met Fabián because in Mataró, Jordi hadn’t learnt English that well and the academic level of that subject in Barcelona was much more advanced, what with it being a touristic melting pot.
Fabián, on the other hand, having lived in Granada didn’t speak a word of Catalan upon arriving, so they’d agreed on tutoring each other. One day in Fabián’s house, and the other in Jordi’s. They became great friends, but unbeknownst to Jordi, Fabián had started sporting a strong crush on him.
Both boys opened up to each other like they’d almost never had with other people, and their friendship level kept increasing alongside Jordi’s monster attacks’ frequency. It wasn’t until he was almost killed by two dracaenae that Clarissa fully understood that if his scent was so potent, then he was not only a legacy as well but a demigod. The woman, having developed a very strong love for the boy, confiscated his phone because of how it could potentially signal other monsters, and sent him on the next flight to New York so he could train properly at camp, initially just for the summer, since he’d just finished his junior year of high school.
Jordi was sad to see that he’d leave all of his friends hanging, especially Fabián, but he understood that it was for his own wellbeing, and it wasn’t like he wasn’t gonna return soon to Barcelona… Or at least that was the plan. Jordi loved camp so much, that he decided to stay for the whole semester to really hone his demigod skills. He learned how to control his powers, but then he understood that it was time to go back home.
Upon coming back home, Jordi made amends with Fabián and his friends, even though it proved to be difficult at first. Truth to be told, he hadn’t remembered how good he felt when surrounded by his friends, particularly when it came to Fabián. They agreed to go for a cup of coffee at Fabián’s to give Jordi the opportunity to explain everything.
On their way, home, however, they passed by the beach and a couple of large telkhines attempted to attack them. Jordi was quick to pull out his weapon and was about to rid of the monsters, now that he had proper training, but much to his surprise, he noticed that Fabián had a celestial Bronze weapon of his own, and as they locked their gazes, the realisation and understanding crossed between them. With their abilities combined, they managed to vanquish the monsters rather easily, and talked about how they apparently had more in common than what they’d initially thought on the remaining walk towards to Fabián’s home.
Upon their arrival, the two demigods decided to have a serious conversation with Fabián’s father, and he agreed to send over Fabián to camp. Jordi, now no longer conflicted, decided to go back to camp as well. There, he was accepted for who he was, he could train and he would also be able to be there with who he realised was his best friend, a title which he’d never offered to anyone else before. And so, it was that the son of Zeus and the son of Mnemosyne made their way to New York, leaving their houses behind, but taking who’d now become home with them. The departure was emotional, but both knew that what the future held was far better than anything that awaited them there. And this time, neither looked back.
Powers of a Child of Zeus:
Offensive[]
- Children of Zeus can manipulate latent electricity in the atmosphere, focusing it into a lightning strike. Static can be seen building up around the target briefly before the strike.
- Children of Zeus have the ability to flow an electrical current into any sort of metal weaponry which will shock anyone it strikes; the current can only be maintained while they are holding the weapon.
Defensive[]
- Children of Zeus have the ability to emanate a field of electrical static which stuns anyone nearby for a short time. They cannot move while maintaining the field.
- Children of Zeus can launch a powerful gust of wind in all directions, repelling attacks and potentially sending enemies flying.
Passive[]
- Children of Zeus are innately immune to electrocution.
- Children of Zeus can communicate with and command birds.
- Children of Zeus are innately stronger during severe weather, and are less inhibited by wind and precipitation.
- Children of Zeus's bodies give off harmless levels of electricity that can power or short-circuit electronics if they wish.
- Children of Zeus need much less oxygen to survive, letting them breathe normally at high altitudes or hold their breaths for long periods.
Supplementary[]
- Children of Zeus have the ability to control the winds to hover or fly, however, the longer they fly the more it drains them.
- Children of Zeus have the ability to call upon the winds to speed their movements or attacks; this can also be used oppositely to slow the movements or attacks of others.
- Children of Zeus are able to call a flock of birds to their aid, that will then help to either defend or attack for a short time.
- Children of Zeus are able to cause a booming thunderclap, deafening and potentially stunning anyone nearby for a few seconds.
3 Months After Character is Made[]
- Children of Zeus can summon a weather front of their choice to an area, such as creating a thunderstorm, snowstorm, high winds, heat wave, or any other natural form of weather. The longer the change is maintained, and the more extreme the change from the current climate, the more they are drained.
6 Months After Character is Made[]
- Children of Zeus are able to transform into an eagle at will, allowing them to move undetected, scout their surroundings, and fly long distances without tiring. The longer they sustain this form, the more time they need to rest between transformations.
9 Months After Character is Made[]
- Children of Zeus can call down a lightning strike from the heavens, directly onto themselves, and absorb its full power into their bodies for a short time. In this state, the user is much stronger and faster, static electricity emanates from their skin, and all of their powers over lightning are substantially increased. Once the energy subsides, the user is left heavily weakened from the strain on their muscles, and they may be unable to move for a long time.
Traits[]
- Children of Zeus generally make strong leaders.
- Children of Zeus are generally good at predicting the weather, as Zeus was also the god of weather.
- Children of Zeus are rarely afraid of heights.
- In some cases children of Zeus are prone to being claustrophobic, as they generally prefer open spaces.
