History
Annika Nicole "Nikki" Zelmerlow-Meyer, as per her birth records, was born to a previously chaste artist, Marija Zelmerlow, Swedish and German by birth, and one very mysterious Andreas Meyer. The child was concieved at her mother's home back in Munich, Germany, but was brought into the world during her mother's holiday in Randers, Denmark - her mother had been signalled there by whoever posted the mail to her hotel, who delivered a letter and some strange parcels. He actually drove her to the hospital in his van, which was unfortunately not red like Royal Mail vans, it seemed (she was disappointed, as a slight Anglophile with a love of travel.) The letter explained that Andreas Meyer, the absentee father of Nikki, was actually Hyperion, the Titan of light - during the Second Titan War, the fear of the titans had been that they would die out if they did not have any children to carry on. While the fact that Annika Nicole "Nikki" Zelmerlow-Meyer was only half-human was not wonderful to say the least because of Marija's almost nomadic lifestyle, as a daughter of Mnemosyne, Marija was at least glad it was not simply a Camp parent because that would be intensely awkward, with her ideas. The parcel itself contained many harmless items, that actually converted into weapons to be used by Nikki when the problems began, including a glo-stick (not dissimilar from one you'd get at a kids' party) which became a CB sword when it was "snapped". Needless to say, she'd be keeping that one out of Nikki's reach for a while. It also prompted the flashback a few years later, when she explained to Nikki exactly how she had come across the Titan parent. It had happened mostly by chance while walking through the Munich streets, trying to avoid the manic football fans that streamed throughout either wearing red and blue, or black and yellow, depending on which side of the Bayern/Dortmund fray you were supporting. Marija would tell people that she was more connected to the finer arts like food and cooking that twenty-two men kicking around a ball and the ultimate fan fighting that could ensue post-game, mostly with Dortmund being the losing side. It was then that she noticed another man, who did not seem bothered by such things, looking rather fed up - she felt that maybe he would like some normal company. His name was Andreas, he was German, but he spoke fluent everything that Marija could ask, and enjoyed cooking and painting. For a moment she needed to pinch herself to make sure that this was actually reality with everything she could want. Slowly they became more acquainted, and as that process came along she grew more attracted to him, while it wasn't exactly classed as a flyaway romance, it wasn't exactly long eit`her - after a month or so of dating, Nikki Zelmerlow-Meyer was concieved, and as such Andreas disappeared. The story was that an American relative of his had died, and the family needed his support in this difficult time. Nikki herself was not an easy child to raise, always restless, needed a fair bit of outside activity every day, and she seemed to have a little seasonal depression whenever autumn and winter came around- although she always remained reasonably bright and peppy, just slightly less so, so it could hardly be called such. As a member of a scattered group with a similar idea to the Champions of Othrys to come, she knew where her child would have to go, and always taught her child to revere her unknown father and the ideas of the circle, telling her everything there was to know about him (or at least, what Marija knew there was to know.) It was difficult to keep her child from speaking out about her parentage, so she mainly associated the girl with her friends' children upon their move to America when Nikki came to be ten years old. It was partially in hopes of finding him, perhaps that Nikki wasn't really a demititan like was expected. Unfortunately, because Nikki went many places with other demititans, to-be Champions and idealistic parents, the amount of scent that the monsters had to pick up on was far stronger than Nikki alone. With Marija, one particular Tuesday of that year, she was attacked by a fire-breathing horse; but due to Nikki still having minimal training her mother was needed to take on the monster, to ensure her young daughter was unharmed. This was a symbol that it was certainly time to begin training Nikki with the weapons she had recieved from Hyperion (and perhaps start letting her - quite reluctantly - be rather more independent, because the more Marija was with her, the more monsters there would be.) Twelve year old Nikki was attacked by a harpy on the way back from the park, without her friends because she had left early. With one particularly deep cut where the harpy had caught her off-guard initially, she had learnt to use the sword to the degree that the rest of the injuries were minimal and easily solved by a few children of Apollo she had stumbled across who had tried to help. Nikki was afraid her mother would find out about this interaction and pretended that she'd managed to attack the harpy with few injuries, and hid the scars with long-sleeved shirts at the cost of overheating occasionally. By fourteen it was clear things were getting worse and she would have to find somewhere safe to go, but since there were no official camps for Titan children, Nikki would have to stay even after a close shave with some Stymphalian Birds, and she would just have to keep training so perhaps they were not so much of a problem. At least, that was her thoughts, but she was becoming more and more of a monster magnet, especially when around other people - so, throughout her fifteenth year, she had almost lost count of how many she ran into and rarely left the house. Her final attack occurred when she was being coaxed outside at sixteen by a concerned Marija, scared her daughter was going to become a complete introvert if she never went outside. Nikki had been training for a long time, there was no denying that, but it came as a surprise when empousai showed up. Marija had never been attacked by empousai as a child, really, but Nikki was sixteen with no further protection and a fully-grown daughter of Mnemosyne close at hand. After the monster caught her mother off guard not unlike what had happened to Nikki at twelve (but with a less advanced monster) Nikki was left with nothing but her weapons and what was hers by right. The recently formed "Champions of Othrys" appealed to Nikki with similar ideas to hers, and offered sanctuary to demititans in exchange for doing tasks for the titans themselves. So, naturally, she took them up on the opportunity. 💡💡💡 |
Personality
The INTJ title "The Scientist" lends itself more to how Nikki observes the world, and much less so to the Coldplay title - she would deeply disapprove of nostalgia, aside from the occasional wish for Randers and the swearing in the morning, rather than having to watch her own mouth. Anyone who references the happiest country survey in conversation will probably get laughed at, in return - have they ever seen Denmark? Never mind, she's more Swedish than she ever will be Danish (screaming out of your window is wholly acceptable in some cities, in case you were curious) and won't hesitate to correct you on this. She's only out for herself, endgame, even though she'll probably smile to your face to get her own way, if she can see it as beneficial at some point down the road. Yes, this was why she joined the Champions of Othrys - mostly for the shelter, because she was 16, parentless and homeless, but also somewhat because they shared a value or two, meaning her goals were more likely to come to fruition. This wasn't fuelled by need for company - she didn't want to move again, after spending a lot of time moving around from Denmark, to Germany, to America. Her life was a case of "where next?" The second was this need for safety. Indeed, interrupt her when she hasn't initiated a conversation, and you've probably ruined your chances to break her shell. It's probably a compliment if she does speak to you - it means she thinks you're worth her time and not a complete and utter idiot. In combat, she likes to put on the 'innocent, led-on teenager' face in hopes of weakening the opponent and letting their guard down so she can take advantage. (Precisely why she doesn't let hers down.) And if that doesn't work there's her pretty face she was blessed with, right? Or the new foreigner around in America act? She might not be a Jill of All Trades but she's definitely got a few tricks going for her as of right now. The only people she's really willing to speak to are her superiors, and the other children of Hyperion in the group. There's a distinct difference between normal people, and those keeping you housed along with your own flesh and blood. 💡💡💡 |
