Powers

Offensive[]

  1. Children of Apate have the minor ability to create illusions of attacks so realistic that they are most likely to catch an enemy off guard; however, if they miss they are left vulnerable to counter attack.
  2. Children of Apate are able to command a weapon to go against it's master's will. However, they cannot command a weapon bigger than them. Also, the master of the weapon can resist the will of the weapon. Once the effect has wore off, the weapon is immune to further effects of it.

Defensive[]

  1. Children of Apate are able to make the objects in a small area shift appearance or location, confusing those who will see it. While the skill is in effect, it continuously drains the user.
  2. Children of Apate are able to trick charging enemies to face the opposite directions and charge at those directions instead. The more enemies and the longer the distance, the more it drains the demigods. After the effects have wore off, enemies will be immune to further effects of it for the battle.

Passive[]

  1. Children of Apate are innately able to see through lies, illusions or any form of deceit, as they are innately so well skilled with deceit themselves.
  2. Children of Apate have the innate ability to confuse, mislead or deceive others for a short time, the longer they try and keep up with the lies/deceptions, the more energy it drains

Supplementary[]

  1. Children of Apate are able to make a fake copy of an object not bigger than them, but they must clearly imagine the object in their minds for it to completely imitate the original object. Also, if the original object possess magical properties or whatsoever, the imitation will not copy those properties.
  2. Children of Apate can use their powers to lure someone into lying or coming into agreement with them when they truly don't want to without the person influenced even noticing. The bigger the lie, the more power drained. A person with a strong will can fight this, and most will remember being deceived shortly after.
  3. Children of Apate are able to mimic sounds or the voice of a person or creature they already heard speaking or making noise. The quality of the mimicry depends on the focus and skill level of the user.

3 Months After Character is Made[]

  1. Children of Apate can create illusions in order to twist other's perception of reality or make everyone around them see something that isn't really there. However, the illusion isn't physical and therefore is only a trick of sight. The bigger the change in perception, the more power drained. They can also delude single individuals in the same fashion.

6 Months After Character is Made[]

  1. Children of Apate are able to make a copy of their body, that they are mentally connected to, but cannot interact with its physical environment. It can be used to spy on others, bring back intel, distract others, carry messages, etc. It drains the user moderately.

9 Months After Character is Made[]

  1. Children of Apate are able to make a copy of their body, that they are mentally connected to. It is essentially a real copy of themselves, with all their powers to a weakened extent and can actually interact with their surroundings, however while the copy is active the user is entirely incapacitated. While the copies are active, the user is drained, so the longer the copy is active the more they are drained. Once the copy is gone, they must wait a substantially long time before making another copy.

Traits[]

  1. Children of Apate tend to be treacherous, fond of treachery or amused by it.
  2. Children of Apate are cunning, sly and uneasily fooled.
  3. Children of Apate are very good liars and at making alibis.
  4. Children of Apate are good at forging signatures and hacking systems.
  5. Children of Apate have deceit "intuitions", meaning they may have a hunch if someone will try to deceive them. However, their predictions may not be accurate every time.
History
Before the crickets chirped their last song for the night, Vladimir Kovalsky could be found at his home writing an article of how he'd found that Greek Mythology was true. He was a man able to see through the mist and was sure that other people were similar to him. He'd seen monsters and other creatures or objects that most people couldn't. He'd been drinking all night and he thought that everybody would believe him. He was a renowned journalist from a prestigious newspaper in Saint Petersburg.

When Zeus took notice of this, he was urged to find a solution to this problem, he called Dionysus and asked him to force madness upon Vladimir temporarily. Dionysus did as commanded and cursed Vladimir with madness for a year so that he would go to psychologists and they would most probably convince him that what he'd seen were hallucinations.

So that night, Vladimir never finished the article, as he'd fallen momentarily from the sudden madness that had been induced into his mind and spirit. The next day, he started seeing everything distorted and all of his thoughts weren't organized anymore. He started developing unusual hobbies such as cultivating deathly fungi and collecting complex and seemingly irrelevant mathematical data. In that way, he was becoming smarter, but in other ways, people started noticing he was becoming crazy. As now he was seeing more odd creatures, he forgot that the Greek ones were actually real and believed now that all of them were actual living creatures.

People told him that they'd seen him act in a different way the last months. He didn't think so, but his best friend and work partner took Vladimir to a psychologist named Dr. Labviv. He saw something in Vladimir that he'd never seen before. It was a new type of madness. Raw and pure madness, to be honest, with no apparent precedent and thus, he could not diagnose anything specific.

One night, after having trouble at his job due to his last poorly-written article, he traveled to Moscow in order to meet a famous psychiatrist that Dr. Labviv had recommended in an appointment. Apparently he needed medication in order to get better and only this psychiatrist had an idea of what Vladimir could have.

Of course she did, as that psychiatrist was Mania, the goddess of madness. They met in the appointment and she found him attractive. Of course, he was good-looking, but what she liked the most was his twisted mind. It was so purely mad and undone that she couldn't help but to invite him out for some drinks. They talked and he became unaware of what came next until they ended in her apartment bed.

The next morning, Vladimir saw Mania lying next to him. Vlad discovered what he'd done and told her to take an emergency pill to stop her from getting pregnant. She rejected the offer and explained about how she was a goddess and how their pregnancy was reduced almost by half than those of humans, which meant that if she would have gotten pregnant, she already ‘’was’’ pregnant.

He knew he had been right about the Greeks and now she'd just confirmed it. Vlad asked her why they were keeping this a secret and she explained everything, besides making him swear on their child that he wouldn't write an article about it. She said that she would have to leave as soon as the child was born -if there was a child at all- and he accepted it. They went to live in St. Petersburg so that he wouldn't lose his job.

2 months went by and now it was definite that Mania was pregnant. They both grew fond of each other and eventually fell in love. After another two months, Mania gave birth to a daughter and she named her Ivy along with Vladimir. She announced to Vlad that it was then the moment for her to leave to Olympus to breastfeed and nurture the baby, but promised that she’d return Ivy after that time to him.

And so she did. Both of the adults grieved their separation. Vlad found a month-old baby soon thereafter at his house in her own baby carriage with a love note, two thigh straps with twin CB ninja-like swords and a small vial with a translucent liquid with a shade of gold attached to it.

Just a week after Ivy was given back to Vladimir, his due date for madness had come to an end. He was sane once again, but he didn't finish writing the article, as he understood that the gods would punish him even more severely than before if he dared to repeat his mistake. And so, the Russian man took care of his new daughter.

But Vladimir could not bring himself to marry someone, as his love was only present for the mad goddess, and after thinking about her too much, he could only stay home, crying for a long time for his love.

He lost his prestigious job, but after some time, his parents died, so he inherited all of their money, and they were very wealthy. He was still very young in comparison to all that he'd lived through, as he had the age of 25.

Vladimir started having violent thoughts and behaviour and he wanted to use them for the best, so he decided to fix his life and defend other people. He enrolled in the military and took Ivy to live with his younger sister.

He excelled as a soldier, and the tenant saw that he was good enough to get a promotion. The tenant Provzky sent a recommendation letter to the KGB concerning Vladimir. They took him in and he became a special agent, or a 'spy'.

He went on several missions throughout two years, but specifically one brought repercussions to his life.

It was Nassau. His mission was to kill a woman that was located there who apparently deceived governments. A great share of money always found itself in her wallet due to this, and she only had to use her brains and tongue. Vlad had been given a gun and a picture of the woman, who would be in a party that night. He went to the party an incredibly sensual woman and decided to talk to her and ask her whether she knew the soon-to-be victim of him and where he could find her.

They talked for a long time and he was drinking more than he should. When he remember his mission, Vladimir asked Aprilia (as she had introduced herself) about the woman in the picture. She admitted that she did, in fact, know the woman he was looking for, but she would need to get something out of it Given that Vladimir was very attractive, her condition was to do the naughty with him. He, of course, agreed.

They did it in the master bedroom of the mansion and fell asleep in it after doing so. When they woke up, Aprilia told Vladimir what she'd promised: the woman he was looking for was actually her, with a different appearance. When he pulled his gun out, she said that shooting her would be futile. Aprilia said she was really Apate, a Greek goddess. He knew by now that this sort of happenings could happen, but he was still mad. Vladimir wondered why she had been stealing money from the several countries and she just said it was for fun, to fulfill her rather mundane guilty pleasures. In her luggage she had all the money and said she would disappear just so that Vlad could 'accomplish' his mission. The money would be transferred to his account because she had really liked this guy. She promised she would visit him in St. Petersburg whenever she had some time. They agreed that they would remain friends.

When Vladimir came back to Russia, the KGB dissolved and he lost his job yet again. He became a journalist once again and had Ivy return to live with him. No child was delivered to him this time, so he knew that Apate never got pregnant.

8 years later, when Ivy was 10 and left to her very first summer camp, Apate decided to visit Vlad, as promised. They had dinner and she stayed with him for 3 days. On the third night, they slept together once again and in the fourth morning, she left, as in a few hours, Ivy would come back. Apate accidentally left the pair of boots behind, which later on came to be of Yelena's property.

He continued with his normal life. He was now 35 and was very comfortable as a single parent with a single child. A few months later, a toddler was found on his bed and he knew it was his and Apate's. Vladimir named her Yelena, and Ivy was as happy as she could ever be. She had a new sister to play with, or that's what she thought at that time.

3 years after Yelena’s birth, Ivy was told about her heritage by the mouth of Vladimir, right after she had her first monster attack; since there was no purpose in hiding this from Yelena, -as she was a demigod herself- Vlad and Ivy raised her with the knowledge of being a demigod, and she was used to the idea of this since she was a kid. Ivy, however, didn’t know -until very much later on- who was Yelena’s real mother, and she thought that it was Mania all along, as Vladimir couldn’t bring himself to tell her the truth. They had attacks at least once a year which Ivy always took care of.

Since that very young age, Yelena got into ballet classes and showed an innate talent and affinity towards them. So much that throughout every event in her life, she could be seen sometimes just practicing her routines, even by the time that she didn’t go to classes anymore.

Even with 10 years apart between them, Yelena and Ivy both bonded very strongly. Ivy having a childish personality, and Yelena maturing at a fast pace throughout her life to catch up with her sister. Maturity-wise, they only seemed to have a small age gap.

Obviously, they fought from time to time, but Ivy also helped Yelena a lot in almost anything she needed, and Yelena even perceived Ivy as a motherly figure. They were both very mischievous and pranked on people a couple of times a day. Ivy wanted to plan everything, but Yelena felt as if she leaned more towards improvisation.

Once, when Yelena was 10, both of them were having dinner in a restaurant, they saw a couple and decided to try and ruin their date in some way. When Ivy went to the restroom to ‘wash her hands’, she walked past them and ‘unintentionally’ tipped over a glass of red wine over the woman, who was actually Aglaea. The date left, uncomfortable about the situation, and Aglaea was left alone as Ivy was already in the restroom. Knowing that it had been a demigod, Aglaea became furious and went to the restroom to confront the demigoddess. Just to be polite, Ivy apologized but she really didn’t feel it, and the goddess knew this. She would have pulverized the condescendent young woman right in her spot, but she didn’t out of patience. Instead, she held her grudge and decided that she would keep a close eye on her and on her sister, Yelena.

2 years passed by and now Yelena was 12 years old. She had always been the ‘bad girl’ of her classroom. She always got in trouble for several reasons, but violence was never one of them. The teachers always called her attention, as she would talk frequently with all of her classmates, due to her ADHD. But she also was sly, cunning and smart, so the only thing that affected her grades were conduct and reading comprehension, since she also had a hard time reading properly (as she also had dyslexia).

She was sad sometimes, because making friends was never easy for her. Her only friend was her sister and they were both weird; so finding someone that shared the same interests as her and also liked her as a person was extremely difficult. When her homeroom teacher noticed this, she advised her to befriend an apparently new and quiet boy in her classroom. She had two purposes: one; he had no friends, so if they became friends it would be better for both of them, and the second, was to hopefully make Yelena become more quiet by hanging out with the reserved guy.

Yelena had no better option than to take the teacher’s advice. His name was Mark, and he looked quite older than her. At first, she sat next to him at lunch time, and started talking about her ballet lessons and how many of the girls were mean to her, her favourite places to visit and other stuff she considered personal. After about three days, he finally started talking back and admitted that he had been held back for a year due to his own grades, hence the reason for him looking older, he was 13 and almost about to turn 14. He also mentioned that his family was on the verge of poverty, as they struggled economically, due to his father always getting lame jobs and being fired soon thereafter for unknown reasons.

Mark was dumb. Mark was slow. Mark was boring most times. Or at least that was what Yelena thought at first. After quite some time of bonding, Yelena noticed that most of this was a lie. Yes, he was a bit slow at learning and memorizing both fancy terms and complex concepts, but he had a giant heart and he was very naïve, regardless of his badbutt appearance and occasional attitude.

Eventually, they started developing some rather tender and innocent feelings for each other, so they started “going out”, even though they both knew it was nothing serious. As time went by, they truly developed a genuine friendship, and Mark didn’t feel alone anymore, however, much to the teacher’s dismay, Yelena didn’t get any more quiet, instead, she made Mark a little loud. She did become slightly more down to earth when with him, though, and Ivy noticed this.

Almost two years later, Ivy got a normal job and started working, eventually moving out of the house and going to live with her boyfriend. Yelena had never formally fought monsters herself, as Ivy fought any monsters that dared come near the family, however, it was no up to Yelena and Vladimir (as he was clear-sighted and had CB weapons), to fight them. Yelena subconsciously resented the departure of her sister and thereafter started being rude, snarky, irritable and condescending. Vladimir took notice upon this and they started started arguing a lot. Their relationship became a rocky one for about a year, the only time they spent together properly was when they fought two monsters within that year. The arguments got worse, to the point of which one time, Yelena escaped and went to live with Ivy for a week. After she came back home, Vladimir made amends with her, but soon enough, it started all over again. And it got worse than the first time. One of those times when the arguing got extremely heavy, Vladimir struck Yelena across the face to the point that she started bleeding.

Enraged, and now starting to reach her full potential as a demigoddess, she fought back to her father, leaving him unconscious a few moments later. Scared by her power and ashamed of it, she ran away and refused to ask help from Ivy out of shame. She took with her a CB machete that Vladimir had been using so far to defend Yelena from the monsters since Ivy had been gone.

She started living by herself in the streets with the money she’d been saving up all her life. One time, she met a daughter of Hades and tricked her her into giving Yelena all of her money. This would help her continue living for a while, but she’d also gotten an enemy.

About a week later, and in the midst of one night, when everybody had already fallen asleep, she was woken up by the aggressive rustle of leaves. Looking around while yawning, she took notice of a humanoid silhouette several feet in front of her. Her raw and confused eyes couldn’t let her see properly but it seemed that whatever that figure was had… wings? She tried recalling the lessons from Ivy and her father about all the possible monsters that could attack her, but she didn’t recognize this one. Scared, she got her machete and tried fending it off. Quite unbeknownst to her, the monster was actually Alecto sent by Hades to take revenge for his daughter that had died in the Russian streets since she’d lost all of her money.

This was Yelena’s first-ever alone monster attack and truth to be told, it was barely successful. After fighting for a while, she finally managed to pulverize the fury, but not without getting injured herself.

She started asking for alms, tricking people into believing she was an orphan and making them feel pity for her. She did get money from this, and it was enough to live by, but if anything happened to her, like falling ill, she needed to pay for medicine and this left her with no money to eat for about a day or two. She knew she had to make more money but she did not know how to.

One day, while escaping from the police (as they wanted to enroll her in an orphanage), she found out two things: first, that her powers could really take her far (as she’d tricked the police officers to ultimately flee); and second, the way she could get more money. The latter, however was much more unfortunately found out.

After deceiving the police into running towards the wrong direction, a random guy in his mid-twenties found her, immobilized her and took her dragging into a dark and damp place, presumably a basement.

The rest was an unfortunate and genuinely sad blur. Fingers, unrequited lips, unnecessary stripping and unreciprocated intimacy. Screams, yells and shouts for help. This time she really hoped for genuine pity from people, but the pain and shock finally made her drift off into a black turmoil of unconsciousness.

She woke up the next morning in a dark and dead-end valley with her clothes tattered, her hair matted, her body outraged and any innocence that she had left now gone. She perfectly knew what had happened to her and despite her attempts at using her deceiving powers on herself to try forgetting the traumatic experience, she just couldn’t. However, it made her fall into account that she could sell her body for money, and so she did. She had lost any respect for her body after the rape, anyways.

So she did it. For about a year, she hopped at nights from bar to bar, joint to joint, and bed to bed. This gave her more than enough money, which she saved, as she’d also trick her clients into paying her extra after her services.

Some time before turning 16, she got attacked by a small flock of stymphalian birds. She tried fighting back, but fighting against birds with a machete wasn’t the best idea. She had virtually done no damage to them, except for killing one, and they’d already left her body covered in gashes. She figured she’d have to try and make a run for it. She ran and ran, and eventually found herself in the middle of the city when she couldn’t run anymore. Tired, drained, and bleeding, she felt like fainting, but she did her best stay awake. She threw her machete towards the birds and in a lucky shot, she killed two of them. The rest charged at her when suddenly a volley of arrows dissipated all but one. An arrow pierced the flesh in her arm and that was the straw that broke the camel’s back. As she collapsed to the ground, she saw Mark in the corner of her eye with a bow, and an arrow nocked, aiming for the last monster. The last thing she saw before fainting was the faint glimpse of golden dust covering her visage.

She woke up inside a hospital with Mark sitting next to her as he read a magazine. They caught up on everything that had happened: Mark revealed he was actually a demigod too, his father had gotten a job as a doctor in that hospital, he’d become more socially accepted, and Yelena’s father had tragically died in a housefire about a month ago. Despite many suspecting it being suicide, the true reason remained hidden to everyone.

Yelena, having nowhere else to go, moved in to Ivy’s apartment. Luckily, she’d gotten rid of the boyfriend, and now the two of them lived peacefully together and alone. Everyone had thought Yelena had died, so when Ivy saw her, her heart sank and they both rejoiced over their reunion.

The gods didn’t like them both together, though, as they suspected the two young girls would continue with their mischief, even if Ivy was now 26. They continued fighting against monsters easily. One time, when having a picnic outdoors, the two of them found a peculiar wreath, one made out of peacock feathers. Loving the look of it, they decided to keep it and shared it with each other as a simple clothing accessory.

That, however, was in reality Hera’s missing Marriage Crown, which motivated the romance between marriages and strengthened their marital bond if Hera channeled her powers through it. A trio of campers were sent to retrieve it for her as a quest, the leader of it being a son of Aglaea.

The questers were led towards the sisters’ location. Intruding into their home to get the wreath back in the middle of the night, both Yelena and Ivy woke up, and at the sign of people inside their apartment when there wasn’t supposed to be anyone in there, they took it that they were being robbed. The questers, shocked, and not knowing how to explain their objective, tried running away, but not without their leader sneaking out the wreath. Ivy, upon noticing this, became furious, gathered her dual swords and started fighting against the demigod as the rest continued running away from an outraged Yelena.

It wasn’t until some time later, that Ivy found out the other guy was actually a demigod, as they both started using their powers. After quite some time of both being badly injured, Ivy gave the fatal blow to the worn-down son of Aglaea by impaling him with one of her swords. The other two were long gone by then, as Yelena hadn’t managed to catch up to them. Seeing how much trouble the Crown had gotten them into, Ivy decided to burn it.

For the gods, that was the last straw. Aglaea had been annoyed before by the two demigoddesses before her son was murdered, Hades’ daughter had been tricked by Yelena, Hera’s precious object had been destroyed, their father had almost told the humanity about their existence and Ivy had made several demigods insane with her powers. The family was a mess and they had to be cursed.

And so they were...

The gods decided that killing them would be too harsh, as it had also been both Mania’s and Apate’s fault not to inform Vladimir at all about Camp, therefore making his daughters prone to misunderstand how the Greek World really worked nowadays, as they were never properly taught about it. After several discussions about the topic, and the gods having a really mocking humour about their curses, they finally decided: seeing as both Yelena and Ivy always seemed back to get together and enjoyed being that way, the curse would be to make both of the siblings be merged and combined into just one body, or “vessel”. Seeing as Ivy had been the one to cause more trouble overall, it was Yelena’s body that was chosen as the one that would stay.

Both of their personalities merged and while at first it was chaotic, after a while time, they developed into just an organized, but very versatile personality.

When the two found out about this, they were terrified and it was the most confusing thing in their lives at first, but after some time, they managed to communicate. Now officially Yelena Ivy (they eventually decided to adopt Ivy officially as the middle name), the demigoddess was still colloquially referred to as simply “Yelena”.

A few days later, Mark found out about what had happened, and decided to tell Yelena about camp. Since he’d seen her fight so properly, he’d thought all along that she didn’t need camp. It wasn’t until the curse that he knew that she’d have to learn more about the gods’ rules so she didn’t get in any more trouble. Mark guided her to camp and encountered a harpy that they easily killed. Yelena got to camp a little over a week ago. She’s currently sixteen years old, and about to turn 17. Up to this date, Yelena has that merged personality of hers still working, sometimes more Yelena-inclined and demonstrating more of Yelena’s traits and attitudes and vice-versa with Ivy.
Personality
Yelena is what some would call “a typical Apate girl” at first sight. However, when you get to meet her, she isn’t. Of course, she is mischievous and deceitful most times, but her trickery goes to another whole level. Yelena can be both very sensitive or insensitive depending on her mood, and if she’s angry, she may be able to kill whomever she can and not feel even a drop of guilt on her gut, but if she even kills a small animal accidentally when she feels bubbly, then she will feel so bad that she may cry for a long time and stay in a sad or even depressed mood.

She is disciplined and will end any project she starts. She manipulates people (except for her family and close friends) for her liking, but never for entertainment. Yelena is quite sarcastic and sassy sometimes (not to actually offend people), but only when in a good mood and for humorous purposes, as she also is a fun girl to be around with when she is happy and tricking people to have fun.

Yelena can be enraged fairly easily and probably will stay enraged for a moderate time. This means that Yelena is impulsive and that she trusts her instincts which most times bring the best out of her. All of the traits mentioned before don’t mean that she is bipolar, but her mood may swing many times but not as frequently and only if triggered. She took ballet classes all of her life and due to her getting to camp, she feels a bit awkward about this as she can’t practice.

Many times, she can be found in hidden parts of camp while practicing some of her routines. The ballet also has a great influence on her fighting style. Most of her moves are graceful and calculated, which may seem odd as she uses a thick weapon such as the machete. Her clothes can be casual or sometimes even gothic-lolita-like. Nevertheless, Yelena isn’t gothic herself at all. Yelena and Ivy’s personality’s didn’t overlap and sometimes someone had control and other times, someone else had control. More accurately, their personalities merged, but sometimes Yelena may be more like herself, and sometimes, she may also be more like Ivy.
