Ivona was born sometime between 1914 and 1918, during World War I. Her mother, Aleksandra, was not struggling as much as others during that time period, but she was not well off either. One day, while scourging the streets of Petrograd, as it was then called, she came upon a tall, charming stranger. He was posing as Mikhail, the rich owner of several casinos. However, his real name was Aeolus, and he was the Greek god of the winds. There was an instant attraction between the two, and after a brief, passionate courtship, Aleksandra became pregnant. Aeolus left her soon after, though it pained him immensely. But he was adamant in his belief that Aleksandra should never know the truth. Ivona was born healthy, and she was a happy child. Her mother's standing in the gritty world had improved slightly, and Ivona was not prone to many hardships, even though war was raging everywhere. She was intelligent and beautiful, and many of the citizens in Petrograd took notice as Ivona grew into adolescence. At the age of 12, Ivona was heading to the market when she spotted a young man. He was extremely awkward, and she felt sorry for him, but assuming there was nothing she could do for him, progressed further into the city. On the way back to her house, she experienced her first monster attack. An empousa had been in the area, and though a female demigod was not it's first preference, it was hungry and had no better option. The awkward boy saved Ivona's life, to her great surprise. He revealed to her that he was a satyr, and insisted she relocate to camp. Ivona hesitantly agreed, and she went with the boy, leaving everything she knew behind. Right when they got to the camp entrance, another monster attacked. The satyr told Ivona to run, she only had a few feet left to safety. But Ivona hesitated. She did not want to leave her new found friend, and though she was no fighter, wanted to help in any way possible. She ran to the satyr's aid, even though she knew what she was doing was foolish. The monster, a hellhound, badly wounded the satyr, and was about to kill Ivona as well when a woman appeared. She was Eris, the goddess of discord. She offered Ivona a chance: Accept her offer of immortality and serve her well for some years, and in return she would save her the satyr. Ivona was tempted by the prospect of being immortal, and didn't want her friend to die so she agreed. Eris, who had been looking for a demigod with Ivona's kind of history, was enthralled. She wanted an assistant just like Ivona, one who wouldn't be missed in the world and would serve willingly. Eris revived the satyr and then took Ivona away. Ivona served Eris as an attendant of sorts for nearly a century, and slowly, Eris began to grow tired of her. She told Ivona one day that her debt was served and she could go if she wanted. Ivona hadn't minded serving Eris and would have liked to remain, but Eris refused. She stripped Ivona of her immortality and sent her to camp. |
