So, we've talked a lot lately about images, and had two votes, and I've been thinking, periodically throughout the last 2 1/2 years, as we've pretty much had image voting since the first month the wiki began, every so often it comes up and is mentioned that at some point enough time has passed that perhaps old votes may no longer represent majority of the wiki, as many of the users who voted are gone or inactive. In fact I believe if you go back to votes in 2011, some votes back then passed with as few as 5 to 7 users voting, whereas now we have the 12 votes minimum with a margin of 3 policy. In the past a few votes have gone back up by request, but we've never had an official stance on any of this......
So, I was debating the following options and wanted to see what others thought:
Don't change anything, if a vote happened in 2011, it should remain the reflection of the wiki and continue to either be allowed or not allowed regardless
Only go through and revote on images that happened so long ago they don't conform to the 12 vote/3 margin policy
Set some type of limit on votes, like 1 or 2 years the votes can, IF REQUESTED, go back up for a vote, or maybe if not requested, like an automatic thing we go through and revamp/recheck
Thoughts, questions, concerns, alternate points of view...anything....
I'd go with option 3. I believe we should reopen closed cases with few votes, since most users of that time had, sadly, left. There should be requirements on reopening the case though. Like, maybe, the case must be at least 2 years old; I believe it's 'cause I'm sure we can still recognize a model two years ago, well, majority. Also, if an image is really famous, then it should be kept that way. Though.. there's a part of me that says the case's fate will still be the same :/ There is a crime, but no criminal.★❣Broken❣★
Yea, I mean it could go either way, it could stay the same in a revote or change if like the actor was more popular a few years ago, and hasn't done anything since, as the age of our user base is in flux all the time. I've seen 2 cases where we allowed it to be re-opened and 1 1/2 years later majority didn't recognise them. But I'm sure there could also be cases where they didn't recognise them 1 or 2 years ago, but because certain movies have come out, now suddenly way more recognise them. Like with actors from Mortal Instruments, now that it's out on DVD more people may see it, and as more sequels come out.
