Overall, Kennedy has an heir of faux-dominance and superiority. Kennedy is a guy whose empathetic nature does force him to feel the need to reach out to others, while also doing anything to get other people's approval. His front of 'superiority' and guise of sarcasm and egocentric behavior, covers the fact that he is a super emotional person who can't handle his emotions that well. While around other people Kennedy is confident and laid back, due to his natural extroversion. He gets' his energy from being around others, even of those people are toxic and abusive. Kennedy is outgoing mostly to those who he feels responsibility for, or he actually cares about. He is very particular about his appearance, as he tries to be and act perfectly whenever he is around other people. Overall, while Kennedy has a significant "imperfect" complex' he's spontaneous and loves a good time.
Kennedy's father, Tyler Willis was a deep-sea fisherman. His father and grandfather were both fisherman, thus Tyler was always around the water. But unlike them, Ty was a 19-year-old half-blood, son of Amphitrite. Granted, he was a half-blood that had walked away from the world of the gods and had ceased to use his powers. He still stayed by the water because the water calmed him, and he felt peace. During one particular voyage, north in the Atlantic Ocean, the ship had collected almost as much as it could hole. The fishermen were still several days out from port. While the crew was hauling in a catch, the wind picked up, and dark clouds rolled in. Debris started blowing around the ship, and the sea level began to rapidly rise around the boat. Inside the command deck, barometers started dropping, while the captain of the ship saw as cirrus clouds started tangling themselves in the air around them.
Outside, the crew had given up on their haul, they cut their nets and let them fall into the water. They saw white caps form, and waves get bigger. Roaring noises drowned out the directions they were calling to each other. The sky was almost pitch black, and the fishermen who were still on the deck of the ship, ran for shelter inside. As Tyler turned to go with the others, he felt a grip on his ankle. He felt his heart drop. The grip tugged him into the water. Frantically, Tyler reached to grab onto anything that would stabilize him. He knew it was hopeless. He hadn't had to deal with a monster attack for several years, he wasn't in tune with his powers, and naturally didn't have a weapon to assist him.
As Tyler plunged into the frigid water, all his oxygen was forced out of his lungs by the impact. Like the sky, the freezing water was deep black. Tyler couldn't see anything in front of him, he could only feel the grip on his ankle tighten and pull harder. The retired demigod was racing through the water being yanked around by the giant sea beast. Finally, he came face to face with his captor, a Kraken. The beast was twice the size of the boat Tyler had called home for the last few months. He was close to the creatures eye. Thinking quickly, he grabbed a metal hook from the carabiner on his belt and scraped it into the monster's iris. This only enraged the creature more. Finally, the beast bellowed, and loosened its grip on Tylers leg.
Tyler took advantage, and raced back up to the surface of the water, he was shocked the hook had worked. Deep down he knew there had to be another factor for his freedom. Being in the water started to bring some of his control over his powers back. While it wasn't much, he had found that he could still breathe underwater, but it was rather taxing on his lungs since it had been so long since he used his powers. The skies had only grown darker, though Tyler didn't know how that could be possible. He was sucked back underwater, but as he went down he saw a large feminine form rise above the towering waves around him.
This time one of the Kraken's tentacles was pushing him down below the waves. The pressure was briefly hurting Tyler as he got deeper and deeper. The remaining body of the monster was wrapping itself around the ship, squeezing it, until it would potentially break. Unbeknownst to Tyler, a violent, divinely controlled wave crashed against the creature knocking it off the ship. Tyler felt more in control as the impact allowed him to slip out from the Kraken's grasp, and once again swam to the top of the waves.
Along the way, a flash of bubbles appeared right in front of him and a woman of impeccable beauty grabbed his shirt collar. The next thing he knew she was pulling him behind her as she swam to the surface. Once she broke through the water, she pulled Tyler up, so they were both standing on the surface, waves crashing around them. "Use this to prove your worth, and maybe I'll let you survive," the creature spoke. She violently ripped a vaporized trident out of thin air and shoved the hilt to Tyler's chest. His hair was wet, and fell in front of his face, while his head felt like it was imploding upon itself. He couldn't make out the detailed features of the woman's face, but he knew she must either be some sort of powerful nymph or a goddess.
He accepted the trident reluctantly. Running from this world wasn't going to be an option anymore. The woman violently slapped her hand on his shoulder. Immediately, he felt the powers of his youth race back. He felt energized and in control. A goddess. He thought. He hadn't known many violent nymphs who needed demigods to do their bidding, but there were plenty of gods and goddesses who used half-bloods and were not the most kind about it. He knew it wasn't his mom, he would have felt if it was.
Regardless, he snapped out of thought and started running back toward the boat, where the Kraken was mounting for a second time. He jumped and dove into the water, speeding through the waves. The trident shrunk down to a chunky wristlet as Tyler charged. When he approached the Kraken, the trident appeared back in his hand full-sized. He speared the nearest tentacle and tried to use the velocity to propel himself higher on the creature. This failed because he was never very agile. "Seriously, get a grip......ugghh why! do you have to be like this!" It was the goddess ranting, he could hear her in his thoughts. He heard a roar. When looking up, he saw the goddess growing until she was even bigger than the Kraken. He knew she could fight the beast, but also knew that as a goddess she didn't want to be inconvenienced with a monster.
She lunged at the creature knocking him back off the ship, meanwhile, knocking the ship which started to tip onto its side. Tyler summoned one of the waves to help steady the vessel. The goddess and the creature were now in the deep under the boat. Tyler dove down to help the goddess, not that she would likely need it. However, he had a feeling that the trident would be of some use. While both creatures were fighter, Tyler swam through the squirming tentacles. Close the base of the monster's body, he shoved the trident into the monsters fleshy underside, causing the beast to screech. After shoving the weapon deeper into the creature, it finally turned to a wet and soppy dust.
The weapon once again shrunk around his wrist. He swam back to the surface, which was still a raging storm. The goddess rose with him so that they were both standing on the surface of the water again. "You're kinda pathetic, you know. All I insinuated is for you to kill the creature and we'd be done."
"That's exactly what I did, your divine grouchiness." Tyler replied to the goddess. "and if you don't mind, who are you?" "How dare you disrespect me. I'm the goddess Kymopoleia, of sea storms and violent waters, and don't forget that I didn't need to save you. You were a failure even before charged you with taking care of the beast, I don't recall why I thought you were capable." "I seem to recall me killing the creature, not you...in fact as per usual, you didn't do much to help. Why did you even try? Gods don't typically help." Tyler demanded.
"Do you know how boring it gets being out here, not having a place on Olympus?" the goddess roared. "Forgive me for wanting to have some fun. Instead of letting me watch a demigod defeat a monster like the good old days, you made me get involved because of your incompetence."
Tyler simply stared at the goddess. Typical, this was why he walked away from the gods. This is why he didn't want to have anything to do with them. "The least you could say is 'thank you', but I know that's not like your type." "I'm disliking you more by the minute." Kymopoleia retorted. To compliment her feelings, she drew up one already obnoxious wave and used it to push the fishing boat away from the arguing figures.
"Was that necessary? truly? Come on." Tyler complained.
"I guess you'll just have to come with me, I'm not done with you yet. Believe me, you don't know how boring it gets staying out here. Away from divine civilization." The goddess drew another wave from the water and used it to propel both her and Tyler down into the depths of the Ocean.
Eventually, the storm died down and Tyler found himself in an undersea hovel with the goddess. Tyler tolerated the goddess, while Kymopoleia just wanted a mortal to amuse her. Eventually, they did hook up, and after several passionate nights Tyler woke up back on the mainland, and in his home. At first he thought the entire situation was some sort of terrible dream, but then he noticed the trident still bent around his arm.
After about 11 months, he was returning from a short fishing trip. None of his fellow crewmembers seemed to remember that he never returned with them on their previous voyage. When they docked to port and got their catch unloaded, each crewmember had to meet with the administration office to collect their checks for the catch. Tyler was requested into the office first. When he entered he found a small baby. The secretary told him his wife had dropped the child off and was leaving him for another man. Tyler knew there was no other man, that this child was the product of his undersea hookup with the goddess. Really without a choice, Tyler took the baby. He was now 20 and had no idea what to do with a child.
He knew the kid wasn't going to have a normal childhood, and he didn't want to put his kid through the type of childhood he had. An absent father, who didn't know anything about parenting a kid. He also knew that he wasn't going to abandon him. Tyler named the kid Kennedy, which was the first name he liked when he was scrolling through baby names online.
Kennedy grew up pretty normally through his younger years, whenever Tyler was off on extended fishing trips, he stayed with his grandfather who taught him "Greek Mythology" as fictional stories. Kennedy still didn't know the truth about his family, but his father and grandfather did the most they could to protect him. Finally, after Tyler returned from a fishing trip, right after Kennedy's 11th birthday, their cabin was stormed by two Empousai. Tyler and his father (who thought wasn't a demigod himself, could see through the mist and interact with the 'supernatural') The entire ordeal was very blurry in Kennedy's memory, he only remembers his father and grandfather slaying the first monster, then his grandfather commanded his son to escape.
Kennedy and Tyler ran from the cabin and drove away. Tyler didn't want to send Kennedy to CHB, the same place he was sent after his first experience with the world of the gods. From that time on, Tyler kept Kennedy with him. Even on his fishing trips. He convinced the captain of the ship to let Kennedy learn how to work on the ship so that Tyler could watch over him more easily.
After many years of working on the ship with his father, one night, during the last shift - Kennedy was out on the deck admiring the distance of the water and the waves lapping against the side of the boat. He was dangling his legs over the edge. Looking out across the horizon, he could tell why his father loved the ocean so much. He felt the same type of admiration for the waves that his father had. He felt at home, at peace. He also felt...vaguely off balance. Suddenly, he slipped off the edge of the boat and fell into the waves. He yelled for help, but the closest person was watching the boat from the other side of the ship.
Struggling to catch a breath he felt something brush against his leg. He yelped, as the entity brushed his leg a second time. With a splash, a creature lept out of the water and tackled the demigod, pulling him under the waves. Thrashing against the creature, Kennedy screamed for help a second time. He could see the silhouette of his father on the boat looking down at him while the creature was still dragging him under. Kennedy elbowed the monster in the face and swam back up to the surface. "Catch this!" His father pulled up the sleeve to his heavy rain jacket and dropped the trident wristlet down to Kennedy.
The accessory transformed into a weapon as it fell. Kennedy, clearly shocked and panicked, caught the trident. The telekhine rose back to the surface for round two. Grabbing Kennedy loose arm, it started dragging the half-blood deeper into the water. Kennedy was still terrified but used the trident to stab at the creature at the least to put some distance between them. Once the creature was comfortable with the depth of the water, it once again pounced on Kennedy, this time shoving a knife up against his throat. Kennedy blocked the blow with his trident just in time and kicked the creature in the snout. It came back harder, biting Kennedy's shoulder, and drawing blood. At this point Kennedy hadn't even noticed he was able to breathe underwater. This didn't change the fact that he was terrified. The pattern continued, the creature would pounce at Kennedy and he would try to block, finally, he managed to wrestle the knife away from the monster.
Tyler was still on the deck of the ship. He turned on the lights on the side of the boat, flooding the water beneath with plenty of light. This shocked the monster and caused it to become slightly disoriented. Taking advantage of his chance, Kennedy tackled the creature underwater stabbing with the knife and pinning the monster with his trident. He managed to slit the creature's throat, after struggling with the monster for several long seconds.
Shocked at the events of the last seven minutes, Kennedy resurfaced and saw his father looking down at him. Several of the other crew members had grabbed a life ring and were letting it down to him, so they could pull him back up to the safety of the ship. They had thought the creature was some sort of shark, but Tyler knew the truth. He also knew that keeping Kennedy away from the gods was no longer the answer. He couldn't keep Kennedy safe and would need to get him to Camp Half-Blood as soon as possible. They were attacked several more times while on the voyage.
For the remaining time on the ship, Tyler told Kennedy everything: about the gods being real, and about his true heritage. Kennedy didn't have any other choice but to believe the crazy life his father was describing to him, after all he almost had gotten killed by several of these crazy creatures. Tyler had convinced the captain to call for a vessel to take Kennedy away. He said that the fall had caused Kennedy to 'go crazy', which was a story the other crew members believed, as Kennedy was talking about the monster nonstop after he was saved. They had seen some kind of shark, not a crazy water hound. Kennedy knew that what his father was doing was for the best, but that didn't change the fact that he was nervous about what knew chapters this would bring into his life.
Finally, after a few days, a speedboat approached the vessel, and Kennedy was lowered down into it with his belongings. He said goodbye to his father, who he honestly wasn't sure he would see again. Then the boat was off. He didn't talk with the driver very much as they were headed to their destination. He was some kind of water spirit who was indebted to the Director of the camp Kennedy was heading too. Upon arrival at Camp Half-Blood, he met a few of the other campers. During the first week, he was claimed by his mother.
