Richard Mahelona wasn't the nicest of men, especially not to his wife. He spent his time drinking and hanging out at local bars or camping off on local lowly inhabited islands having affairs. This is how he met Pandia, the goddess of the full moon.
Richard was quite the camper, spending his time on these lowly inhabited islands camping with any lovers he could get his grubby hands on. For some reason he attracted a nice, beautiful woman in which the two began their affair. He spent a majority of his time on the island where he met her, hoping or praying that he'd see her again for another meeting.
When she did finally come back to him, he was unaware that the goddess was in fact pregnant with his child. Upon revealing this to him, Richard felt rather upset about this and fled. Pandia was furious that her lover wouldn't take responsibility for his actions, so upon this child's birth she left him swaddled in a dark gray blanket with the name Lucas stitched to the corner of it.
However, Richard was not the one to find the child, it was Kalea, his wife. Kalea was joyous for she could not bear any children. When she told Richard of the news, he stated that he was leaving and she could care for this child herself and with that he fled far away.
Kalea was still joyous to the fact that someone had left a child here and she vowed to raise him, however that would not be the case. It wasn't until Kalea fell ill with after a brain vessel in her brain burst during a seizure.
After the death of Kalea, Lucas was thrown into the foster system where he bounced from foster home to foster. After his final foster home, at the age of five, of which he was kicked out of after fighting the other kid there. He was then thrown into an orphanage, where he spent his days being picked on and defending himself. It wasn't until one of the days where he was out hiding in an alley where he met a girl with pigtails, who later revealed herself as Margeaux. She saved him against a group of older boys who were picking on him as well as beating him up.
For several months after she saves him, she begins to help him get food from her mother, Lorena. Upon Margeaux learning that Lucas is a foster kid, she often went with him to find food so he could have a meal at the end of the day.
While spending his time around Margeaux, it took her stepfather a while to even learn of him being there. When Gregory discovered Lucas hanging around, he threatened to scare Lucas off the property hoping it kept him away. Margeaux and Lucas were best friends now, this meant a lot to Lucas as since his mother's death and his father never being there, it meant he had someone by his side.
During the times he did spend away from Margeaux, he would be defending himself against the boys in the orphanage he lived. Through this time, he grew rather experienced in what those would call street fighting. Around the time that he turned ten, Margeaux had begun taking lessons to protect her brother. Around age eleven, she and Lucas were confronted by a Telekhine while walking along the beach, though they didn’t know it at the time. Between Margeaux’s fighting skills, which she was teaching to Lucas in their free time, and Lucas’ growing brute strength, the Telekhine was taken out with minor scrapes and bruises received. After that, Margeaux and Lucas ran back to her house, with the former in a frenzied panic.
After this Lorena gave Margeaux a letter from her birth mother, Eris a goddess of discord and chaos. Margeaux reads the letter and Lorena begs them to go to Camp Half-Blood.
Margeaux refused. They had taken down the Telkhine with ease, and decided that they could keep training to get stronger in case other monsters showed up. If things got too hard, well, the camp would be there later. In the meantime, no matter how much Lorena begged, her daughter refused to leave her family and Lucas.
This plan worked out splendidly for the next five years. Attacks didn’t come that often, once, maybe twice a year, but she and Lucas took them in stride. They were fortunate enough that most of the attacks they encountered were away from the house. The year that Lucas turned sixteen, they was attacked three times. The third time, was at the end of the summer. He, Seth, and a Margeaux, were camping in the backyard as a before school tradition. As they were sleeping, a Scythian Dracanae, swooped down on them and almost dragged Seth into the air. Seth claimed later that it had been a rabid bird that had attacked, but Margeaux and Lucas saw it for what it really was. At the end of the fight, Seth had been knocked unconscious, Margeaux and Lucas were at the end of their ropes; energy wise.
At that point, Margeaux’s resolve broke. Margeaux knew that the attacks were because of her, and now that her brother had been hurt, she didn’t want to endanger him even if it meant leaving. The next morning she packed to leave for Camp Half Blood. Lucas insisted that he go with her, despite the fact that she thought he wouldn’t be allowed inside the borders. She knew it was useless to try to persuade him, so she agreed.
Lorena bought them a pair of plane tickets with emergency money that she had stashed aside and 9 hours later, Margeaux and Lucas landed in New York. At the border of Camp Half Blood, Margeaux stopped to say her goodbyes to Lucas. She insisted that this is where they had to part because mortals couldn’t cross the border. Lucas snorted and walked across just to prove that he could, unexpected to both of them, Lucas made it across and Margeaux’s jaw dropped in surprise. Both of them are currently at Camp waiting to be officially claimed.
