Margeaux Lacroix

I'm going to wing it and hope I come out on top.
Margeaux is the daughter of the Goddess Eris. She came to Camp Half Blood at 16 after she was attacked by a Sycthian Dracanae.
Personality
Margeaux is fiercely loyal to those she cares about, and becomes a down right menace to those who upset or wrong her. She has a strong sense of right and wrong and will stand up for what she believes is right with unmoving, fiery, stubbornness. Her behavior in general tends to err on the chaotic side. While being typically peppy and light hearted, she craves to be in the midst of unstable situations. Because of this, the battlefield is one of her favorite places. In her down time, she loves to be active and pull pranks. She is impulsive, and rarely thinks before she speaks or acts. Margeaux is also a hot head, but despite this, once she blows up and is given time to sizzle she prefers to talk things out. She's not what one would call bookish, though she does enjoy reading, she would rather be sparring in the ring, or playing a sport.
History

Abel Sterling was only 19 when he sneaked in to a popular night life bar in New Orleans, Louisiana. He worked as a mechanic at a small town auto shop near by the bar and was going with some older friends to hang out. He'd had a fake ID since he was 16 and used it to get admitted entry to the bar. Like many boys his age, he was looking to get into any trouble he could and maybe pick up a girl along the way. The girl that he inevitably picked up, led to events he couldn't have predicted.

The woman that Abel met was gorgeous, everything that he could have dreamed of. She told him that her name was Eris, but would only say that she was from out of town and adventuring through the states. This was mostly true. Eris had gotten bored and was stirring up trouble in minor ways all across the US. Abel didn't think too much of her story, they got a lot of weird tourists in this part of Louisiana. Their relationship continued over the course of a few weeks, remaining mostly physical, though the pair did manage to have some fun causing trouble for local neighborhoods. By the time that Eris decided to leave, Abel had been falling for her.

Determined to get over his summer mistress, Abel continued working at the auto shop, and causing trouble at local bars. Some time later, Eris returned, in the most inconvenient way possible: very far into a pregnancy and ready to give birth at any moment. Abel panicked and was ready to call an ambulance, but Eris stopped him insisting it wasn't needed. Within a few hours, a squalling baby girl was born and while Abel's back was turned, Eris had left a note and fled the scene.

The note, described in detail who she was and why she couldn't stay or keep the baby. At only 20, and barely capable of taking care of himself Abel did the only thing he could think of: he called a family friend that lived nearby, Lorena Lacroix and explained the situation. He felt that Eris must have been crazy, not believing a word the letter said. He told Lorena that he didn't know what to do with the baby and didn't care if it was his, he just wanted to be rid of it.

Lorena was young herself, around the same age as Abel, though she wasn't as skeptical as he was. She had always believed in an ancient higher power, something beyond her knowledge and understanding and believed that sometimes, those powers left gifts. Against her better judgement, Lorena offered to take the baby in as her own. Abel agreed, leaving Lorena the baby, the blanket that she was wrapped in, and the letter that Eris had written. Lorena took the baby to the hospital to be registered and looked at and then took her home. She named her Margeaux Grace Lacroix and had a feeling that she was destined for greatness.

Margeaux was a fairly kind child, but had a knack for getting into mischief. When she was three, the only mother she had ever known, Lorena, got married to a not so nice marine by the name of Gregory Costello. Margeaux didn’t like Gregory in more than just a toddler’s sense of this person is new so I don’t like him. She didn’t like how horribly he treated her mother, but there was nothing that she could do about it being only 3.

Age five was a big year for Margeaux. She gained a baby brother, Seth, and Gregory was stationed in Hawaii. Lorena chose to follow him, so the family packed up and moved to Oahu. A few weeks later, on her way home from school, Margeaux ran into a boy about her age, being beat up in an alleyway by a few older boys. This angered the young girl and she took it upon herself to save the kid. Despite her petitness, it didn’t take much. She learned that the kid’s name was Lucas, but not much else as he didn’t talk much. He looked skinny so she took him home and sneaked him food while her mother wasn’t looking.

This continued for quite a while, and Margeaux eventually learned that Lucas was a foster kid, and often went without food and had to hunt for it on his own. So Margeaux kept bringing him over after school to sneak him a meal or whatever scraps she could find. This wasn’t meant to last however, as Lorena soon found out. Gregory forbid other children in the house as he felt it was not his responsibility to take care of another’s child even if it was for only a few hours, but Lorena took pity on Lucas. She told the two kids that they had to stay in the yard, but that Lucas could still get their scraps and a hot meal as long as Gregory didn’t find out.

Gregory worked a lot and it was a rather long time before he discovered Lucas’ presence. When he did, he attempted to scare Lucas off the property in the hopes that he would never return. Margeaux was severely punished for breaking rules, but this did not dissuade her. She was friends with Lucas now and that meant something. She was also determined to make Gregory’s life difficult no matter the cost. Her mischievousness rose, in the little ways such as mixing salt in with the sugar jar, disrupting morning coffee, moving the kitchen table three inches to the left, hiding all of Gregory’s left shoes, tying all of his ties together, and flushing the toilet while his shower was running, among other things. Margeaux also sought out Lucas again and they continued their friendship.

At age 10, Margeaux’s life got a little more turbulent. Her brother, Seth, who was 5, started to become a target for Gregory’s anger. In typical fashion, Margeaux decided that this could not be allowed. Other than causing more mischief at home, she decided that it was time to step her game up. She started taking fighting lessons after school, to learn to defend herself and her brother. Margeaux was a fast learner, and excelled in combat, more quickly than she gave herself credit for.

As things got more chaotic at home, and Seth started school, Margeaux spent a lot more of her time with Lucas out of the house. Around age 11, she and Lucas were confronted by a Telekhine while walking along the beach, though they didn’t know it at the time. Between Margeaux’s fighting skills, which she was teaching to Lucas in their free time, and Lucas’ growing brute strength, the Telekhine was taken out with minor scrapes and bruises received. After that, Margeaux and Lucas ran back to her house, with the former in a frenzied panic.

Luckily, Gregory wasn’t home at the time. Lorena took time to calm Margeaux and listened to the kids’ story. It was at that time that Lorena decided Margeaux should know the truth. She tried to send Lucas home, but he refused to leave. The older woman decided her energy was best spent elsewhere and Lorena brought out the letter that Abel had given her 11 years ago when Margeaux was born and told her the real story of her birth. The letter itself, Margeaux learned told the story of how her birth mother, Eris, apparently the Goddess of Strife and Discord, met her birth father, Abel. It also told her how she was born and where to go if things got chaotic. According to what Eris said, there was a place for kids like her, demigods, in Long Island that was designed to protect and train her kind, but that meant leaving all she had known, her mother, her brother, and Lucas.

Margeaux refused. She had taken down the Telkhine with ease, and decided that she could keep training to get stronger in case other monsters showed up. If things got too hard, well, the camp would be there later. In the meantime, no matter how much Lorena begged, her daughter refused to leave her family.

This plan worked out splendidly for the next 5 years. Attacks didn’t come that often, once, maybe twice a year, but she and Lucas took them in stride. They were fortunate enough that most of the attacks they encountered were away from the house. The year that Margeaux turned 16, she was attacked three times. The third time, was at the end of the summer. She, Seth, and a stealthy Lucas, were camping in the backyard as a before school tradition. As they were sleeping, a Scythian Dracanae, swooped down on them and almost dragged Seth into the air. Seth claimed later that it had been a rabid bird that had attacked, but Margeaux and Lucas saw it for what it was. At the end of the fight, Seth had been knocked unconscious and Margeaux and Lucas were at the end of their ropes energy wise.

At that point, Margeaux’s resolve broke. She knew that the attacks were because of her, and now that her brother had been hurt, she didn’t want to endanger him even if it meant leaving. The next morning she packed to leave for Camp Half Blood. Lucas insisted that he go with her, despite the fact that he wouldn’t be allowed inside the borders. She knew it was useless to try to persuade him, so she agreed.

Lorena bought them a pair of plane tickets with emergency money that she had stashed aside and 9 hours later, Margeaux and Lucas landed in New York. At the border of Camp Half Blood, Margeaux stopped to say her goodbyes to Lucas. She insisted that this is where they had to part because mortals couldn’t cross the border. Lucas snorted and walked across just to prove that he could, unexpected to both of them, Lucas made it across and Margeaux’s jaw dropped in surprise. Both of them are currently at Camp waiting to be officially claimed.

Plans: For now, to stay alive and really get to know her role as a demigod and at Camp Half Blood. She wants to contribute and earn her spot and the respect of her peers, maybe causing some funny disruptions along the way.
3/6/9 Month Powers: 3 Months: Children of Eris can create a small explosion of chaotic energy at a range of about 12 meters, but the blast radius is only about 5 meters and it takes a few seconds to explode, during which the point of the explosion sparks and pops.

6 Months: Children of Eris can use their powers over chaos to affect reality in an illogical way. For example, they can splash water on an opponent and cause severe burns and get hit with a hammer and it will just tickle. Only one aspect of reality can be thrown into chaos at a time and it will only be in effect for a short time. Afterwards, the user will be substantially drained. The power cannot be used so that it would cause severe damage, such as breathing or blinking would cause their brains to explode.

9 Months: Children of Eris can draw power from all the chaotic actions and desires they’ve seen, felt, or committed in their lives and become an embodiment of chaos. This would make them more powerful, making them immune to all attacks, enhancing their physical prowess and power over chaos they previously possessed. This only lasts for a short time, after which the user will be so exhausted they’d lack the ability to even move for some time and could even faint.

Character's Powers

  1. Children of Eris have the ability to focus an intense beam of chaotic energy which will burn any organic matter it touches. Any inorganic matter it touches begins to slightly break, warp and disintegrate.
  2. Since Eris could be considered a war goddess, her children can decrease an opponent’s strength and combat abilities for a short time, leaving them vulnerable to attack.

  1. Children of Eris have the ability to create a field of chaotic energy around them for a short time, which stuns anyone who steps inside of it and deflects attacks.
  2. Children of Eris can become resistant to all types of physical attacks for a short time.

  1. Children of Eris are innately stronger in times of battle or any other kind of chaos.
  2. Children of Eris emit an aura of chaos and discord, making people around them more likely to misbehave and start fights. They can shut it off for a long time if they wish.

  1. Children of Eris have the ability to force a state of confusion upon another person for a limited time, allowing the child of Eris to attack or flee freely.
  2. Children of Eris can create a short lived “storm of strife” which causes everything within it to change, warp, or break. The effects are random, but typically powerful and can stretch over a wide area depending upon the amount of energy put into it, the larger the field, the more energy it drains.
  3. Children of Eris have the ability to cause a group of people or animals to become irrational and fight amongst themselves for no reason for a short time. Which can give the user a chance to attack or flee.
  4. Since their mother was depicted as a winged goddess, children of Eris can sprout wings for a short time, this enables them to fly; the longer they maintain this state, the more energy it drains. They must rest between flights and cannot make long distance traveling without resting often. However the wings are vulnerable to injuries and magic; they can also be customized to the user’s preference.
