Mercy defines the Cold Shoulder. There's something about her Aura that simply throws people off - But she only shows disdain towards those who don't have and God blood. Usually she can tell, but if she can't, or if the person is human, she treats them like dirt under her fingernails. To those she considers worthy, she's a bit full of herself, but she genuinely tries to be friends, even if it is really awkward for her to do so. Mercy seems to have a bit of an enjoyment for other's pains, and often plays with her prey. She often wastes time and can sometimes push people a bit too far. Mercy does truly try her best, though
If someone does happen to get on her bad side, she embodies her mother. Apate may be the Goddess of revenge and deceit, but Mercy is the queen of it. She stoops low, gains information, and uses if against the target of her wrath. Due to her rather impressive way of getting information, she is a very very good assassin. Mercy can be someone's best friend, or their absolute nightmare.
in 1998, during the height of many american Political scandals, a woman who went by the name Agatha and a man named Liam seemed to have a behind-the-scenes love affair, behind Liam's beautiful and innocent wife, Calli's back. Agatha seemed to live on the edge of ruining Liam's life - Something she seemed to enjoy more than one would usually admit. But she did, with absolutely no issues. Soon, Agatha went to Calli, and told her everything... Including that she was pregnant. Calli was shocked, and much to Agatha's dismay, wanted to 'make it work' for the child, because "Clearly," Calli said to Agatha, "You're not fit to raise a child."
Agatha didn't like that, and despite their willingness and event insistence on raising the child, out of spite, Agatha would disappear forever. Agatha - Or as most would call her, the Greek Goddess Apate - would give birth in Olympus, but knowing she could not keep the child, she decided to double down on the spite she had for the girl's father. Finding the richest, most neglectful and worst parents, Apate would soon find herself with a purely human child, while her spawn, whom they named Mercy, would be in the place of the child. Now, Apate is not a monster. She gave the child to a good home. But this story is not for that child.
Mercy's Family And Childhood
This family, the Von Rossems, were known for political ploys and for being socialites. The mother, Sabrina, held a very spotlight life as an actress, while the father, Mickey, was in the Senate. To be put lightly, Mercy didn't fit in. In fact, Mickey had doubts she was even his child, because of how different they looked. Sabrina assured him and even showed proof that she had never nor will ever cheat, but the seed of doubt was placed on the child. In the background, Apate kept her eye on the child, even going as far to send updates to Liam about 'his' child. Liam was forced to watch his little girl be neglected and ignored for most of her life. Apate, being true to her name, made it seem a lot worse. From bruises, to fake stories in the pages of the 'Von Rossem's abused and neglected child', the news articles of how much they hated Mercy and wish she were never born. Soon, Calli, who had enough of his paranoia and made up stories, had left him, and Liam was left all alone with his anger for not only the unbeknownst Goddess, but also the family who had stolen and destroyed his daughter. Liam begged and begged to see Mercy, even going as far to go to the Van Rossems and claim that Mercy was his child and that they simply did not deserve her, with how they treated her... Despite the previous doubts on the child, the man was immediately removed from the premises and it was made clear that Mickey did indeed love this child, and that Liam was nothing but a crazy man who wanted attention.
Mercy's life, in reality, was quite cushy. She had heard of the man who had attempted to claim her, which only made her angry. Mercy was often a lonely child, and didn't quite go out of her way to talk to people. But to claim she was not a Von Rossem when nobody had any proof she wasn't? It was utterly ridiculous. Even when her father insisted he gets a paternity test - Of course it came back positive! She was their child! But even mercy had to admit, growing up she never felt any real connection to her parents. Could it be because that she was often ignored and sometimes blamed for problems? Maybe. Mercy, though, knew no other life. She figured it was normal.
Mercy eventually got into bad company. Around the age of 12, she had already been into hard drugs - Mostly selling and dealing. She had actually formed quite a good rapport with a lot of the community around her - And got really good at hiding her activities from her parents, who figured she just needed a way to let out her anger. Sabrina had soon enrolled her in Martial Arts, which of course, Mercy had totally thrived in. Though she couldn't stop one of her 'guards' from coming along with her most of the time. It was fine, as long as they kept their mouth shut - Which means she constantly threatened him. The new guy, as Mercy liked to call him, had no chance against her methods. Still, she allowed him to come. Mostly because even she knew she didn't have much chance as a 12 year old in that type of world, even with her continued training.
On her 13th birthday, she woke up with a couple of gifts from her parents - Including a necklace that looked like a little bronze mask. She didn't quite understand the sentiment, but it was a pretty necklace, so she had decided to start wearing it. It was lucky she had decided to wear it one particular night when she was 14 years of age. Mercy had been set to meet a new contact. With her guard in tow, she snuck out to meet this woman, who Mercy already had a bad feeling about. Mercy had made her way to the meet point, with a group on both sides. Something was wrong, though. As soon as she set eyes on the woman, she felt a dread and without thinking about, she reached to her necklace, which seemed to be a bit hotter than normal. As soon as she touched it, it glowed stuningly bright, and when it disappeared, she had a chain scythe in it's place. Then, she looked up at the woman, who had turned into some sort of scaly, creepy, monster thing. Of course, Mercy screamed bloody murder. Her first instinct was to stab the woman, thing, whatever it was. The two fought tooth and nail, but thankfully to Mercy's two years of martial training, she came out on top, the creature burst into a pile of ashes on the floor. This is when Mercy snapped. Being freaked out, she ordered everyone to get away from her. There happened to be around four people in the group, not including her guard, who seemed to be the only one who could try to calm her down. Mercy ended up blacking out and killing all four of the humans. She returned home that night, and the next morning, after Zris telling her what happened, she broke down. She spent the morning in a manic episode.
It wasn't until she nearly injured herself when her guard revealed what happened - That she wasn't crazy. Her Guard, who explained that his name was Zris, also explained that what Mercy saw last night was a Scythian Dracanae, and if she didn't kill it, it would have killed her. "Though, the humans were just in a wrong place at a wrong time." This seemed to clam her down a little, and the rest of the day was spent explaining everything. From who her mother really was, to who her father really was. As proof, Zris showed her the paternity test. It clearly showed that she was not their child. But this only made Mercy angry at Sabrina and Mickey. Despite what Zris said, she believed her parents, whom she now knew was not her real parents, took her as a child and perpetrated a lie for her entire life. Her mind immediately went to the man who claimed he was her father when she was a child - Liam.
Immediately, Mercy looked into Liam. What she found angered her more - Liam had ended his own life not long after being removed from the premises. Mercy flew into a fit of rage, directed at the liars she had as caretakers. But Mercy took after her mother. She was also smarter than to outright kill them. Instead, she looks to Zris as the only honest being in her life. Zris, on the other hand, was only attempting to convince her to come with him and just leave it all behind. Mercy refused to leave - But begged him to stay. Zris stayed, telling the Camp that he would just be keeping an eye on her.
Mercy hatched her plan over the course of the next five years. First it started simple - She got clean. Left the life of selling drugs behind. She took her martial arts more seriously. She showed interest in her mother's booming industry and became a model and a small time actress. She became, simply, the perfect daughter. Then, she started acting out slowly. From having mental breakdowns, to, with her abilities, and thanks to Zris's training, convinced not only the outside world, but slowly began to convince her parents that they were abusing her physically.
When she turned 18, the day, she came out with an 'expose'. A story about how her parents were monsters. How they had been hiding her away her entire life, lied, cheated her, and treated her like trash. They were absolutely ruined. Mercy took pleasure in destroying their livelihood. Then, as she promised Zris, she left.
Mercy stayed at the camp for one summer before she simply decided it was not the place for her. Unfortunately, she didn't want to completely go. She fell in love with the area. So, instead, she took residence in the town nearby, New Athens.
It wasn't long until she started getting into bad behaviors again. She was, of course, a natural liar and loved spreading discourse. She conned her way into owning a bar in town, but she just simply wasn't satisfied. Mercy looked into old contacts, and eventually started in an industry that she seemed to fit in very well; Being a hitwoman. Plus, she had the perfect cover. A bar owner.
Mercy now runs as a hitwoman out of her Bar, as well as running the bar itself. She is still discovering her powers, and helps the Camp whenever she can, even if they don't seem to particularly like her there.
