History @micachu • Mar 04
It was New Year's Eve in Korea, the final day of the 1934. Baek Se-Yeong was a single woman at the time and she was at a club, working unfortunately. Se-Yeong was one of the show girls, and it was quite unfortunate that she was unable to go out and have fun, instead being forced to do what she normally did day in and day out. Through a forced smile, Se-Yeong took to the stage with her fellow show girls where they were for sure in for the usual rude behaviour from the men at the bar, multiplied due to the occasion.
Life as a female entertainer at a bar was far from what Se-Yeong had wanted, but given the time that was probably all she'd amount to. If it wasn't bad enough, Se-Yeong's life took an unexpected turn that night when a man had taken her home that night and Se-Yeong eventually ended up getting pregnant. She never saw the man again, how could she when she was fired from her job for being pregnant? Se-Yeong's life truly was plummeting.
After giving birth to her premature baby boy, Jae-Ho, a month before the due date, Se-Yeong struggled to get back on her feet. Her parents were gracious enough to let her and her new child stay with them, but their hospitality was only temporary. Lucky enough for Se-Yeong she met a man who was training to be a soldier. Park Kwang-Hyun was his name, and was Se-Yeong ever head over heels in love with him. He seemed to not only love Se-Yeong as well, but also Jae-Ho. Eventually the pair got married and moved in to their own house, and a happy little family of three formed.
Jae-Ho was quite young when it all first started happening. Only five or so, Kwang-Hyun had been deployed for a year during that time and already came back. It was when he came back that it all started happening. His attitude changed towards Se-Yeong and Jae-Ho, only starting with him raising his voice more often before escalating to much worse. Jae-Ho was the first two get hit, and when Se-Yeong tried getting Kwang-Hyun away from him, she too was struck across the face by Kwang-Hyun. Scared of the consequences, Se-Yeong let herself and Jae-Ho stay in this toxic environment for a year. It's easy to say the marriage crumbled shortly after and Jae-Ho never saw his terrible step-father again.
After Kwang-Hyun had left Se-Yeong, Jae-Ho got very protective of his mother, often being the reason many men failed to date her. Jae-Ho lived a somewhat normal life, or as normal as one could during the time period. With the constant threat of the North and South parts of Korea going to war, it was hard for their to be any sort of peace in Jae-Ho's life. He was only ten when the divide first started after the Soviet-Japanese war.
It was shortly after the beginning of the division that Jae-Ho experienced his first monster attack. He was outside playing with some friends when he saw a pair of glowing orbs in the forest, figuring that the orbs were that of a dog's eyes, Jae-Ho wandered into the forest to try and catch it. Jae-Ho had always wanted a dog, but what he found was far from it. Jae-Ho soon found himself being pinned down by a large hellhound, unable to move under it's mass. Had it not been for a nearby gunshot of a random protestor, Jae-Ho probably wouldn't have had a good enough diversion to escape. His parents and grandparents didn't believe him when he ran home in tears, and so he didn't tell them of any attacks that happened in the future.
More of these attacks seemed to keep happening to Jae-Ho and he couldn't convince his mom to believe him. It wasn't until Priapus appeared in front of Se-Yeong with a long bow that things seemed to click. Priapus was in fact Jae-Ho's father and the gods could sense the wars weren't stopping with the current Chinese Civil War. Priapus wanted his son to be protected, and thus handed Se-Yeong a long bow and a set of daggers while explaining everything to her. Jae-Ho was then tasked to learn how to use them by himself.
With the Chinese Civil War coming to an end, much like Priapus had said, another war began. The Korean War was finally upon them and unfortunately for Jae-Ho, he was drafted with little to no training. Jae-Ho didn't want to go, remembering how his step-father acted out after he was deployed. But unfortunately he had no choice and was sent to battle against the North. He was only fifteen at the time of his deployment.
Life as a soldier was literal hell for Jae-Ho, he hated it. The uncertainty of whether or not he'll wake up in the morning, the terrible conditions, the constant gunfire, all of it. There wasn't a single moment that Jae-Ho liked. He had spent two years in battle, living a terrible life while only trying to make it back home to his mom. A month after the two year mark for him, the only good part of the war for him happened. Across the battle field he could see his old step-father, fighting for North Korea. Jae-Ho had yet to kill anyone in the war, being far too scared. But without thinking Jae-Ho's finger found the trigger of his gun and pulled it, watching as Park Kwang-Hyun dropped to the ground when the bullet punctured his chest.
Jae-Ho froze when he watched his step-father drop to the ground, unable to move. He was both proud of what he did, yet disgusted in himself all at once. But by the time he was able to figure it out, he was blacked out as a bullet found itself in his heart. Seventeen years old, that's how old Jae-Ho was when he died in battle during the Korean War.
Jae-Ho was lucky, had it not been for his mom being a nurse in the war he would never have gotten a second chance at life. Having already been pronounced dead by the time Jae-Ho was brought to Se-Yeong, she had to wait until attending to other soldiers before locking herself in a private room and praying to the pantheon. She was praying to whatever god would hear her, whether it be Priapus himself or another god. Everyone around Jae-Ho were surprised when he awoke from being dead, the bullet hole in his heart slowly closing as he was coughing up small amounts of blood.
For whatever reason, Apollo had decided to take mercy on the boy. His intentions unclear at first before he brought Jae-Ho up to Olympus. It was hard for Se-Yeong to let Jae-Ho go, but she knew it was in Jae-Ho's best interest as Apollo did just save her son's life. When Jae-Ho arrived to Olympus, Apollo informed him that someone so handsome couldn't die like that, it would be a waste were his words. He was turned into a light spirit with the intent for Jae-Ho to become his servant. Jae-Ho couldn't deny Apollo's offer, after all he owed Apollo his life.
From Olympus, Jae-Ho watched as the war came to a close. His mother luckily made it home safely, however Jae-Ho was prohibited to visit her, being told he had to remain on Olympus. It was there that Jae-Ho adopted a new name, wanting to forget the past he once knew. Taking on the name of Micah brought a new, happier existence for him. That is until he realized he'd be sharing Olympus with the mortios of the Korean War, Harrison. Seeing Harrison constantly on Olympus was a painful reminder of what happened to him.
Micah did his best to ignore Harrison, it wasn't easy considering it seemed everywhere he looked the handsome embodiment of his death always seemed to be there. And to make things worse Apollo was always making advancements on him despite constantly being shut down throughout the decades. By the time the 90's rolled around Micah had had enough of Apollo's advancements and asked Zeus if he could do something to make him stop, with a promise to see what he could do, Micah went about his day as a servant.
Apollo caught wind of Micah going behind his back and was furious. Requesting the help of Aphrodite to punish his servant and failed lover, Apollo vowed to get his revenge. That night at one of the many festivals on Olympus, Aphrodite cursed Micah to feel a romantic and sexual attraction to Harrison, the mortios that was created from the mass death of the Korean War. To go even further, she got her son Eros to have Psyche curse Micah's heart so whenever he was with Harrison he would feel the exact same way he did when he was shot in the heart during the war. The latter of the two taking effect after they bonded.
That night at the festival Micah couldn't control himself when he approached Harrison. The mortios thought the interaction was going to be like any other moment the two shared, Micah acting cold and showing clear disdain for him and his entire being. But much to Harrison's surprise Micah was flirty, beyond his own control however. It wasn't long until Apollo looked over and saw Micah with his tongue in Harrison's mouth as the pair made out in the corner of the banquet hall.
After a night of fun, Micah woke up in his bed with Harrison and it was then that Psyche's heart ache curse took effect. Micah woke up with an indescribable pain in his chest, it was making it hard to breathe due to the panic that was brought on by the pain. The panic was what woke Harrison up and he was unable to help, in fact whenever Harrison touched Micah it seemed to make it worse. After a few minutes, Micah fell into an unconscious state.
Harrison was always attracted to Micah, so the idea of finally getting to be with him and then instantly losing him due to something he couldn't help was not something he wanted to happen. Seeing as Micah was created by Apollo, Harrison went to Apollo first to see if Micah's creator knew anything about what was going on. Apollo was at first very spiteful towards Harrison, giving him no answers whatsoever. But that spiteful attitude is what tipped Harrison off to something more going on. Apollo finally coughed up the truth after Harrison persisted and he quickly went to Aphrodite for her aid. As Apollo already informed Harrison of the curses placed on Micah, he went to Aphrodite knowing full well that the removal of the curses could make him hate Harrison again, but it was a risk he was willing to take.
When confronting Aphrodite, she mentioned to Harrison that all she did was make Micah attracted to Harrison, everything he did the night before was still on his own accord and it was just a more heightened feeling of what Micah already felt for Harrison. Seeing as Aphrodite is the goddess of love, it didn't go unnoticed and she made a compromise. Aphrodite agreed that if Micah and Harrison were real they'd be willing to put up with the suffering, with that in mind Aphrodite removed the affection curse stating that if they were really soulmates they didn't need her help. Furthermore she would speak to Psyche to make the heart ache go away after thirty years, gradually decreasing in severity as the time went on. Once again, if they were soulmates they could get through it together.
It was then that Harrison returned to Micah, the other still in bed but conscious again. It was obvious that Harrison's presence was what caused the ache because as soon as he returned, Micah could feel it again. His breathing got heavy and the pain came back. In an attempt to calm Micah down, Harrison kissed him. It was almost ironic that the thing that was causing him great pain was also able to ease his mind and make him think of something else. From there on out Aphrodite kept Micah as her own servant, figuring the atmosphere between Micah and Apollo would be far too toxic for the two of them.
Throughout all of the 90's and the 2000's it was hard for the pair to be around each other. Micah was only able to be around Harrison for so long before he wasn't able to bare it anymore. It wasn't until the 2010's that things started looking up. By 2015 the ache was more or less a light tingle. It was noticeable after long periods of time but it was a lot easier for Micah to deal with and if he wasn't actively thinking about it, it went unnoticed.
By 2018 Micah and Harrison were both ready to leave Olympus. It was obvious that the pair weren't giving up on each other despite what Harrison's creation meant for Micah. Aphrodite was probably the biggest fan of their relationship, she found it beautiful that despite all the pain Micah felt in the early stages of their relationship that he was willing to keep going if it meant true love and happiness. So naturally when Micah asked for her blessing to leave Olympus to be with Harrison at camp and live a more free lifestyle, she couldn't deny them. And with that Aphrodite happily sent the soulmates of the Korean War to Camp Half-Blood.
