Aetna
This character is a child of Aetna.

Appearance

Personality

Out of the two Akana siblings, Paavo is the most feckless of the pair. He is definitely the most lenient out of the two of them and is definitely one of the friendliest people you could ever meet. His carefree attitude and easygoing attitude make him approachable to all, and if befriended, the most loyal companion you could ask for. Paavo can also be very protective of his loved ones, be them blood or not. This can be exceptionally said for his sister, as he would give his life over hers. And then some.

History

Paolosolonu'u and Paavo were born to a simple, God-fearing man, Alaka'i Akana. Alaka'i, who is referred by his friends as simply Ala, hadn't done much in his life. He and his family were natives of the island of Hawai'i, near the volcano Mauna Loa, in a small village. One where everyone knew each other. So when a beautiful fiery soul came around for a summer, people noticed. Especially Ala. He was encouraged to take a shot at the woman, who claimed to be a simple traveler who goes by the name of Alani. The two hit it off, and before the summer ended, Alani disappeared. But Ala's life changed forever, nine months later when Alani returned with not one, but two little souls in her arms.

Alani was saddened by the fact that she could not stay - But the safest place for the children was with Ala, she assured. When he asked why, she answered with honesty, no matter how much he disbelieved. She told him she was the Goddess Aetna. A Volcanic deity overseeing the protection of Mount Etna, where the Olympians shape their Celestial Bronze into weapons. In fact, she brought the children a gift for them as they grow up; Matching necklaces. Celestial Bronze medallions that, Aetna explained, would transform into a weapon when they most need it.

Ala, who was overwhelmed by this information, took the children as requested. The twins, a boy, and a girl were named Paolosolonu'u, after her grandmother, and Paavo, after his grandfather. Paolosolonu'u ended up going by Polly for most of her life, and as the two grew older, Polly seemed to mature just a bit faster, making her seem the eldest of the two, although Paavo was born a minute and 28 seconds earlier than Polly. The two grew comfortably for a while. Polly, Paavo, and Ala always took at least once a week off to just go out an explore, inching ever closer to the Volcano they lived near.

Ala always watched out for the Twin's abilities - Something Aetna warned him about. Both of the children were drawn to the heat of the Volcano and seemed to be a natural at hiking and mountain climbing. Unfortunately, nobody ever knew what lied in the wilderness of the Hawai'ian Islands. When the twins were twelve, Ala left them alone for a while in the wilderness on their way to the hiking trail. That was when the twins heard a mysterious growl. When they Polly turned around, Paavo was pounced on by a strange, large-looking hound. The weirdest thing happened, though. The hellhound's bites were met with pure obsidian, formed on Paavo's arm before the skin could be penetrated. Paavo managed to push the monster off, just in time to pull Polly away as a secondary monster attempted to bounce on her from behind.

After Paavo pushed Polly out of the way, she noticed the necklace her father had given her, and her brother's matching one, glowing and vibrating. She pulled it off to examine it. As soon as Polly pulled hers off, it changed in front of her eyes into a pair of Samoan fire knives. When she looked over to Paavo, his turned into an old weapon their father used to talk about - A Shark-toothed sword. Two traditional weapons, meant for the twins, lined with Celestial Bronze.

Ala came back to a scene; The two were standing over the limp and bloody bodies of, what looked like to him, two dogs. Their arms covered in obsidian-like bracers. As they turned to face Ala, their weapons transformed back into a medallion, and the rock-like armor disintegrated. The three were left with stunned questions. Ala would provide as much as he could. He explained that the two are children of the Volcanic Goddess Aetna, whom he met and had a fling with. As weirded out as the twins were, they believed him. Everything was too crazy to not. But though they were shocked at their newfound heritage, this also opened a whole new window of possibilities.

Polly and Paavo spent a lot of time not only hiking up to the volcano but also spending most of their time there to comfortably practice their newfound powers. This went on for about four years, their control over their abilities increasing along with the number of hellhounds and other strange creatures they happened to attract. Until one day, when everything took an unexpected turn.

A monster had come into their village. It was at home that the Twins were hunted down, bodies in the wake of a deadly serpent woman. A Lamiae. The creature made men and woman scream as she interrogated them about the Demigod twins. Screams that only stopped with the snap of a neck. Least to say, it was terrifying. It took every bit of willpower for the children to act, but knowing they couldn't defeat it, the twins decided on a plan of action; Luring the woman away from the village, to the Volcano. That's what they managed to do. Once they got the Lamiae to the volcano, the twins began working to use a newfound power, telekinetically moving lava to surround the Lamiae with it until she subsequently fell into the crater. They just barely managed to, but it had devastating consequences. The Mauna Loa erupted, and the Lava flow headed straight towards Waikoloa Village. Despite trying everything to stop the lava flow and prevent their home's destruction, the town was eradicated. Many people were unable to escape, including their father. The Death Toll was astronomical, the damage was irreversible. The twins spent their sixteenth birthday, devastated and alone.

That night, in a peculiarly shared dream, the twins were greeted by a seemingly familiar face. Thought it seemed much more than a dream. The ethereal figure greeted them was Aetna, the Goddes of Volcanoes. Their mother. Aetna explained that she understood their current blight, but she has a way for them to be safe. If they traveled from their village, Waikoloa, to Hilo, then they could find a man working at a middle school; Joshua was his name. If they could find him, they could ask him about a place perfect for kids like them. A sanctuary called Camp Half-Blood. Polly and Paavo, though disturbed and skeptical as they were, agreed to do just that. Though it took a while for them to make it to Hilo, when they found Joshua, they quickly told their "doubtful" story. They were in for a shock when he quickly believed them, even more so when he revealed himself to be a goat-legged savior. Needless to say, their lives took a turn for the better from then on. The good satyr took the kids under his horns and immediately dragged them on a long and slow journey to Long Island, New York. They would come along way, but they would safely make it through those gates, where Polly and Paavo were claimed by their Volcanic mother.

Powers

Offensive

  1. Children of Aetna have the ability to conjure weapons out of hardened ash which can be used for combat; however only one weapon can be conjured at a time and it cannot be bigger than the one who conjured it.
  2. Children of Aetna are able to increase the kinetic energy of atoms in an opponent’s weapon or their own for a very short amount of time, ranging from bearable temperatures of heat to something too hot for normal people to hold onto without suffering heavy burns. As a child of Aetna they will be unbothered by the heat, but for an opponent it can cause them to drop the weapon or item in hand. If used to disarm an opponent it can only be used once during a battle.

Defensive

  1. Children of Aetna are able to construct armour out of obsidian and molten rock for a short amount of time. Although heavy in nature, while being used as a form of armour the rock is quite light while retaining its durability.
  2. Children of Aetna are able to create a wall made out of molten rock that breaks through the earth. The wall is no larger than 2 to 3 times the size of the user and it can be used to temporarily block attacks.

Passive

  1. Children of Aetna have an innate resistance to heat and hot temperatures as well as fire. Although the effects of burning can set in if in proximity for too long, they generally have a stronger resistance than most. Furthermore, children of Aetna have complete resistance against lava and magma, being unfazed by the liquid's properties.
  2. Children of Aetna are able to survive/adapt to volcanic fields with dormant, active or dead volcanoes. They are able to deal with the extreme temperatures, smoke, noxious gases, hazardous terrain, and various side-effects of eruptions such as superheated gases and lava. When in contact with such gases and smoke they are able to breathe as one normally would without the presence of the fumes.
  3. Children of Aetna are stronger in mountainous, volcanic, and hot locations.
  4. Children of Aetna are able to change the temperature of lava whenever they please without altering the physical state of it. Making it cold to the touch or a temperature that while still hot, doesn’t match the actual temperature of lava. This temperature is as hot as all their lava based powers can get.

Supplementary

  1. Children of Aetna have the ability to absorb heat, magma, and smoke from a nearby source. As the heat or smoke is absorbed into the child of Aetna’s body, they gain energy from the drained element’s source, being able to use it as a temporary power and speed boost. Although only lasting for a short amount of time, it can be used three times in battle.
  2. Children of Aetna have the ability to travel using clouds of smoke, ash, and even magma beneath the surface. The user merges with the element and reforms elsewhere. The further they travel the more energy it drains.
  3. Children of Aetna are able to create a cloud of smoke and ash around them, spreading through their surroundings and potentially distracting their opponents which gives them time to flee or launch an attack.
  4. Children of Aetna have the ability to generate a fair amount of lava and being able to telekinetically move it with their minds. The more lava generated/moved means the more energy drained.
  5. Children of Aetna have the innate ability of being able to heal their own wounds by draining in substantial sources of heat, smoke and magma. Like a campfire. The ability can quickly heal minor wounds and slowly heal major, but not fatal, wounds. The source drained disappears once the user has healed themselves They cannot heal from heat-based attacks from an opponent.

3 Months After Character is Made

  1. Children of Aetna can create a small volcanic eruption with an eruption range of about 10 meters from its source. The eruption releases mass amounts of lava, ash, and smoke. All of which the child of Aetna is immune to. The effects of the eruption vanish after a short time. Using this power is substantially draining.

6 Months After Character is Made

  1. Children of Aetna are able to turn roughly ten meters of their surroundings into a volcanic field by either forming it from nothing or using the existing environment around them and shifting it to their desired form. In doing so they can cause multiple small volcanic eruptions, minor earthquakes, and even the potential for the earth to break apart exposing magma underneath which would cool into stone rather quickly. Using this power is substantially draining.

9 Months After Character is Made

  1. Children of Aetna can transform their body completely into homogenous matter made up of either ash, magma/molten rock, or smoke. Depending on the homogenous matter making up their body, the child takes on different abilities. They can only transform into one form at a time and they cannot maintain it for very long. The user is quite drained after they revert.
    1. If transforming their body into homogenous matter made up of ash, the child of Aetna gains abilities such as; being immune to toxins and disease, removing oxygen from the immediate area, as well as enhanced control over ash, durability, lung capacity, and fire immunity.
    2. If transforming their body into homogenous matter made up of magma/molten rock, the child of Aetna gains abilities such as; being immune to toxins and disease, dermal armour, as well as enhanced control over lava/magma/molten rock, durability, endurance, lung capacity, strength, and heat generation.
    3. If transforming their body into homogenous matter made up of smoke, the child of Aetna gains abilities such as; being immune to toxins and disease, removing oxygen from the immediate area, near intangibility, flight, as well as enhanced control over smoke, agility, durability, and lung capacity.
