Adrasteia & Kara[]

  • Adrasteia: She is currently sitting on a stool in the kitchen, near the counter, one leg crossed over the other. She's eating a packet of strawberries she'd bought at the entrance to Camp. They were fresh - easily some of the best strawberries she'd eaten since she was a little girl, going through the gardens with Eileithyia.
  • Kara: Walking into the kitchen with her pink backpack (Nata happily sitting in her compartment), Kara was getting ready to start her day when she noticed someone else sitting at the counter - a surprisingly beautiful woman. "Oh, hey there." She suddenly realized something and the blood drained from her face. "Wait, are you Hera?"
  • Adrasteia: While she had heard the footsteps inside the cabin, she hadn't fully registered they were headed her way until the voice interrupted her thoughts. She dabs the corner of her mouth with the napkin she had, before offering a smile. It's warm and kind, but still presents some wariness. Her eyes express amusement at the comparison. While not too off key, the other woman had still assumed wrong. "While I share an uncanny similarity to my mother, I'm afraid I'm not nearly the kind of woman she is," she shakes her head. "I am Adrasteia - her daughter."
  • Kara: Kara sighed with relief. Given her mother's reputation, she wasn't exactly looking for a visit this early in the morning. "Oh, thank gods. My name's Kara. And I guess I'm your half-sister then! Nice to meet you! She offered a hand to Adrasteia, and suddenly, Nata squeaked, smiling at the new woman. "Oh, Nata likes you! Aww."
  • Adrasteia: Her lips quirk, visibly amused at the look of utter relief she's sporting. Honestly, she herself feels a little confused, if not offended, on behalf of her mother. Who wouldn't want to get a visit from her? She's been a good mother, at least to Adrasteia. "It's pleasure to meet you, Kara," she pauses, the corner of her eyes softening as she sees the baby. "And it's an even bigger pleasure to meet you, Lady Nata," she adds, in a small, soft, baby-appropriate tone, smiling warmly. She looks back up at Kara briefly. "How old is she?"
  • Kara: "4 months. She's already such a smart little one." Kara put her backpack down and lifted out Nata, who was attempting to eat the inner lining. She fussed slightly before settling for a strand of Kara's hair instead. Kara looked down. "You're hungry, huh?" She looked at Adrasteia with a look of hesitation and a bit of embarassment. "Could I maybe sit by you and feed her? If you don't mind me feeding her while you're around, and um, me sitting beside you."
  • Adrasteia: At first, she's surprised; she didn't expect her sister to be so open about feeding her child in front of someone who is still very much so a stranger. But then she relaxes and nods. "I can even step out if you feel more comfortable," she offers, although at this point, she very much so doubts it's needed. "You have a beautiful daughter, you know," she smiles, looking somewhat wistful. Throughout the millennia she's been alive, she's always wanted a child; she's just lacked a partner to conceive with. She's tried to make up for it by trying to reassure herself this isn't a world her child should have to go through, but at the same time, it's difficult not to yearn for a baby.
  • Kara: Internally, Kara once again sighed relievedly, sitting down beside Adrasteia and beginning to let Nata feed. "Thanks so much. There's so many people that think it's awful when I feed her in public, so since I've gotten here I've just let her eat here in the Cabin. I hadn't run into anyone else who stayed here yet, but hey, I can trust you. You're my sister, technically." She smiled. "I guess lately I'm a little less nervous. Nata's made me a lot happier than I was before." She looked over to Adrasteia's expression. "Would you like to hold her after she eats? She's fussy with strangers holding her usually, but she really seems to like you. Maybe because you're her Auntie." Kara smiled.
  • Adrasteia: It's an immediate reaction; the fondness with which Kara addresses her daughter is adorable, and it elicits a smile from Adrasteia. And then it turns into surprise once again when she offers her to hold the baby. "Oh, no, it's quite alright. I can hold her later," the daughter of Hera turns down the offer gently, not wanting her to get the wrong impression. While she'd like to hold the baby (who doesn't love holding babies, honestly?), she'd rather not do it while she's feeding from her mother. That's a moment she's not keen on interrupting. Plus it'd be awkward, so that's that. "I guess... I am her aunt," she says, later on, with sudden realization. "Huh. I honestly didn't expect to have more family, let alone a niece. Kind of makes it tough when your mortal family has long passed and your mother is an immortal, married woman."
  • Kara: Kara's face fell a little. "I'm sorry." She paused for a moment.
"For what it's worth... you aren't alone. You've got me and Nata if you ever need someone." She adjusted her position briefly. "I'm really sorry if I'm wrong, I'm bad with social skills and I'm not neurotypical. But I get the feeling that everyone needs family. Even you, and honestly you look and seem like royalty. You remind me of a Queen of the Amazons in a story my friend told me once..."
She caught herself going off topic. "Sorry, um, point being, everyone can always use a family. So if you want... we're happy to be yours, if you'll have us." She smiled, and after a second stifled a giggle. "I saw your expression, too. I was asking if you'd like to hold Nata AFTER I'm done feeding her."
  • Adrasteia: "There's no point in lamenting over my past. It's been over a millennia," Adrasteia dismisses her apology with a wave of her hand. She pauses, long enough to digest everything else Kara has said. She smiles at the offer, though it falters and she becomes rigid when she mentions the story of the Queen of Amazons. She takes a breath, deep enough to calm herself so her muscles lose some of the tension. "Probably because there's the very likely chance that I am the Queen of the story your friend told you," Adrasteia says, with an awkward little shrug. She clears her throat. "Well... once you're done feeding her. Sure."
  • Kara: "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to bring up any bad memories." Kara looked away, her cheeks flushed. "If it helps... that queen was kind of one of my favorite legends. You're so strong."
