Pre-Ball

The Ball

  • Kiel: His brows furrowed in confusion, but the son of Poseidon did not want to push further. They were supposed to to enjoy their night, and he was supposed to get his ass forgiven. Kiel helped Daphne to the stairs of the ball. Her arm locked around his. They enter to a room full of people. "Did you ever attend that high school ball of ours?" He asked. That year, his childhood crush and Daphne's best friend disappear, so Kiel couldn't bear himself to attend.
  • Daph: "I didn't" she deadpanned, she didn't have someone else other than her best friend so even if she did want to go, it would be pointless to go alone. So she didn't. "Did you?" Upon entering, Daphne scanned the premise, unconsciously looking for familiar faces. It seems a lot from their batch have gotten the news of the New Athens as well. The daughter of Ares exchanges smiles and waves from few people that she knows.
  • Kiel: "No, I didn't see the point until tonight." He grinned back in a rather cocky, Kiel manner. "What do you want to do first?" Frankly, the pair have been to so many events due to their parents' wealth. However, Kiel secretly felt incapable, as often times the two would flirt with each other the whole night. He couldn't do that now, or could he?
  • Daph: she bites her tongue before she could suggest for Kiel to maybe look for someone he could fuck but thought better than to say it. “I’m not sure myself.” She says as she still subtly looks around. Before she could suggest to get something to drink or eat, her purse started vibrating to which she checked to be the vice pres. She excuses herself for a moment to get the call. “Stay here” she says with a hint of nervousness on her tone, she’s had enough of leaving Kiel and coming back for something she doesn’t expect i.e, girls
  • Kiel: The son of Poseidon sighed. "Aight. I'll get us drinks then come back." One day, he should pay Alexander or one of the Hermes kids to disable online calls from Taiwan. Kiel headed towards the bar area to get a whiskey on the rocks for himself and a glass of champagne for his classy ex-girlfriend. Sure, a few nymphs, thinking he was single, talked to him, but he kept it short and waited for the drinks.
  • Leighton: Was Leighton purposefully keeping an eye on his sister while he was meant to be having fun? No, not intentionally. But he was protective and couldn't help but spare a glance here and there. Having never actually met Zaphkiel when his sister was dating him, he wasn't aware that who she was talking to was her ex-boyfriend. Thus he looked on more as a supportive brother, wanting everything to go well. When he saw the male coming his way though at the bar he quickly had to look away and act casual while he heard him ordering drinks for the pair of them. Now standing awkwardly beside Kiel, Leighton sipped his sprite.
  • Kiel: Although they were neighbours, the son of Poseidon never struck up a conversation with Leighton. He had no reasons. The bar had a few nymphs and demigods ordering, so it took a while. When he suddenly appeared beside Kiel, he remembered Daphne's words of ignoring him. He then also found a wallet on the floor and cursed himself for seeing it. Avoiding him seemed awkward and unpreventable at this point. Whether or not it is Leighton's, Kiel picked it up, turned to the son of Ares, and asked. "Is this yours?"
  • Leighton: Having not gotten a good look at the man's face, Leighton was unaware of who he was standing beside. Plus, it had been so long since Leighton had lived next to the other that he couldn't remember his face anyways. That and with no social media, it wasn't like he was up to date with what he'd look like now aside from Daphne's descriptions. He felt awkward standing beside the man, and yet again he wished he talked to Daphne more often than they did because then maybe he would have known it was Kiel she was with. Looking over when he was spoken to was perhaps the first time Leighton had clearly seen his face, and it sure looked a lot like the Kiel he vaguely remembered seeing and not interacting with. "Yeah, it is." He muttered, clearly feeling more awkward as things rushed back to him. "Thanks."
  • Kiel: Kiel took his awkwardness as disinterest to converse. Thus, he nodded. "Yeah, no problem." Still waiting for the drink, he can be found looking at Daphne on the balcony. Eventually, the drinks came, and he sighed. It seemed like she was still on the phone with another guy. What could be taking her so long?
  • Daphne: A few moments later, she's suddenly appears behind Kiel at the bar, unaware of the man beside him to be her twin brother. "Hey, Kiel" she calls out as while preoccupied with placing her phone back on the phone "What did you get me?" she asks, hoping Kiel wouldn't ask how the phone call went.
  • Kiel: "The usual," he said, presenting the glass of champagne towards Daphne. Kiel couldn't ask about the phone call, considering that her twin brother was next to them. With his back facing the son of Ares, he gave Daphne an expression only she would understand. It was a mix of 'fuck', 'shit,' and 'someone's here.'
  • Leighton: Leighton watched as his sister approached them, not paying any mind to him. Which was fine, she obviously didn't know he was present so there was no ill feelings. But he was curious as to what she was doing with Kiel, the last he heard they were done. But what did he know? "Hey Daph..." He said to his sister from behind Kiel. Leaning to the side so she could see him better.
  • Daphne: she froze immediately once she heard her brother's voice, they have been in touch ever since she's broken up with Kiel through IMs but hasn't told her twin about the recent events with Kiel. It would've been easy for Daphne to make up something if Kiel wasn't here. "Hey!" Daphne gulps down her nervousness as she plaster a surprised smile. "Hi, Leigh" she side glance at Kiel, her mind racking for ideas on how to handle this without anything slipping "We found a demigod and brought him here, Kiel helped on the way" she tiptoes on the truth as she reaches out for a hug "How have you been? Are you with someone?"
  • Kiel: With his back against Leighton, the son of Poseidon took out 50 dollars from his wallet and forced it onto one of the campers receiving a drink. He pretended to have a conversation elsewhere, despite still eavesdropping. Kiel knew he would be skinned alive, if he didn't act fast.
  • Leighton: Leighton kept an eye on Kiel as he began engaging more with Daphne. "I've been good, just you know, staying at camp. Not much really to report on my end." He said as he glanced over to see what Kiel was doing. "Nope, I'm here alone. I just thought it'd be fun to go out for a night, not really my style but I've enjoyed myself thus far."
  • Daphne: she nods in understatement as her phone buzzes once again to which she immediately fumbled to peek who was calling "I'm sorry for not telling you that we're here, I figured we won't stay long that's why I didn't bother" she fidgets nervously, torn between taking the call and staying with her twin. "I never thought New Athens would be this packed with old campers. I met a lot of old friends" she hopes Leighton could also find old friends, not a day goes by that the lady feels guilty for not being with her twin despite his constant assurance
  • Leighton: Leighton noticed as Daphne looked down at her phone, but decided not to speak on it just yet. "It's all good, I know how busy you can get." Picking up on the nervousness Daphne was displaying, felt bad keeping her. "It's nice to see for sure, I'm glad so many old campers have come back. But um... If you have to get your phone you can, I should be heading out anyways." He said before motioning his head in the direction of Zaphkiel. "I don't want to interrupt you two more than I already have."
  • Kiel: Once Leighton was about to excuse himself, Kiel ended the conversation with the random camper and turned back to Daphne and her brother. "We should talk another time - in a better setting, brother." He bid politely with a smile. He called Leighton his brother as a sign of respect. Considering their families were now forcibly tied, the opportunity would arise one day.
  • Daphne: she grimaced at Kiel for even trying to talk to him but nonetheless, she could understand the gesture "It's okay you're not really interrupting anything but I'm really sorry, I need to take the call again." she pulls Leighton into a tight hug "Let's keep each other updated, okay?" the daughter of Ares was sad to meet her twin in such a short notice, she wishes she can tell him the whole story and be able to cry her heart out without Leighton going for Kiel's head but for now, they bid their farewells before she hasten to the balcony once again
  • Kiel: He sighed. From an outsider's perspective, Kiel was also quite pitiful in the relationship - always secondary to Daphne's calls and messages. No wonder he felt neglected in the relationship. Even now, when he went through all the trouble of promposing, she still had called someone else. He couldn't imagine a life like this, as much as he loved Daphne. However, he decided to suck up his pride and walk towards the balcony with her drinks. If she refused to hang up, he'd probably just dunk the whole phone in champagne. "Hey." He said, reminding her about his presence.
  • Daphne: ".. ok, let me know if you need help." she glances at Kiel before she bids farewell at Si-jin on the phone. Apparently, the guy is sick and Daphne can't help but feel bad about letting him do all her work while he's in bad shape. "Hey." she turns to him "I'm sorry, I can't help but feel bad at someone else taking my work" she sighs but she makes an effort to push it aside for the night at least.
  • Kiel: Kiel understood. It was Daphne's nature to care for other people. However, she shouldn't expect him not to be jealous. "Pft. Do you feel bad that no one's taking your work as my date tonight?" He teased, trying to uplift the mood. Honestly, Daphne was too beautiful tonight. The son of Poseidon found it hard not to forgive her, especially since he still harbored much feelings for her.
  • Daphne: she can't help but laugh at him "The matchmaker would be so proud at you tonight" Daphne leans her back on the rails as she sighs at the sigh of Kiel. No one knows how much she's restraining herself to just run back to his arms and tell him how much she misses him, how much she just wants to hug him all day. Before any conversation could ensue, Ed Sheeran's Photograph starts to play from the inside of the ball room and Daphne can't help but tap her feet with the beat
  • Kiel: Although he was afraid to return to Daphne, little by little, the matchmaker was pulling them back into each other. Kiel noticed her tapping her feet. He blushed. His heart beat wildly, as if it were the first time he'd confess to her all over again. "Well, this is a ball..." He said, extending a hand and putting the other behind his back. He slightly arched himself. However, he decided to let his actions speak instead. "What I meant to say is...Daphne Wang, may I have this dance?" The son of Poseidon tried to cover up his fear of rejection through his smug attitude. Hopefully, Daphne would notice his smirk more than his blush.
  • Daphne: She wants to dwell on the fact that Kiel is blushing but found the will to stop herself lest she gets the hope blooming too much. Daphne smiles warmly at him, knowing in herself that this could be the only guy she will love so much before slipping her hands on his and on his shoulder. "This is nice" she looks around the balcony, with them dancing slowly under the stars. This might be the nicest dance she has
  • Kiel: The son of Poseidon locked on hand around her waist, while the other held her hand. He led her across the balcony, liking how their solitude was romantic. He nearly melted in her warm smile, hoping the sight would last forever. "Yes, like my shoes, so don't step on my shoes. They're expensive." He teased, as usual of him. A wide grin plastered on his face. Kiel tended to carry a terrible attitude to hide his nervousness. By now, Daphne should have received the hint. "If only we weren't as busy" He commented.
  • Daphne: she laughs at him "When did I ever" The daughter of Ares nods, totally understanding where he's coming from "Yeah, but you're always good at finding time." and she will never find enough words to say how she was grateful of that. Daphne sighs and pulls a little closer and leaner her head on his shoulder, daring herself to indulge on the moment hoping that this could also loosen the son of Poseidon of his nervousness
  • Kiel: "Should I remind you about the times you'd get mad?" He smirked, twirling the daughter of Ares. She again returned into the closeness of his warmth. Kiel then appreciated her head on his shoulder. He relaxed. It felt like home. Perhaps, their parents were right. They should have remained together. "I find time for things I find useful and valuable." He referred to her. Often times, the son of Poseidon would also use economical terms to hide his true feelings. When in fact, he would love the thought of Daphne as a chiller housewife.
  • Daphne: she nods, knowing his reasons "Yeah, right" she chuckles as she assumes that he meant more than that. "I missed this so much" she mumbles before she reasons with ".. the camp" its a rather weak white lie but she doesn't mind Kiel knowing that it's him she misses.
  • Kiel: "Only you would know the truth." He referred to his terrible defence mechanism. Kiel had always left a soft spot for Daphne. "Pft. Not me and my heaven-sent body?" He asked, hoping she'd modify her answer like before. He wanted to admit that he also missed her, so he decided to gamble. "I did miss you, and not just the camp." With her head still on his shoulder, the two continued to dance slowly in the night.
  • Daphne: she huffs as she finds herself smiling before the lady squeezes his hands "It goes without saying. There's only you." it might be an outright confession and she's terrified at how the guy would react but it felt so good to at least let him know it and then the phone buzzes again. It took a moment before the daughter of Ares chose to ignore it, just this one time, she wants to dwell on this moment. It's just one night after all. She realigns her head a little more comfortably on Kiel's shoulder, taking in his familiar scent HNNG JUST GET BACK TOGETHER NA KASI AKSJDHASNDAK
  • Kiel: "Good you know." Like a smitten fool, the son of Poseidon grinned at her flirtatious return. Their bodies close to each other. He also noticed how she ignored the phone call, which surprised Kiel. "Aren't you going to pick that up?" He decided to rub in how fortunate he was, if she were to finally choose him over work. If only this could happen all the time, the son of Poseidon would drop any other priority like a hot potato.
  • Daphne: she huffs again at his eternal smugness "Yeah, don't think about it too much I can feel your head swelling already" she laughs as she deliberately leaves his question unanswered, hoping the action would be enough for him. The song turns to Ed Sheeran's Give me love "Too much Ed Sheeran" she comments
  • Kiel: After chuckling, the son of Poseidon's eyes relaxed and his lips flashed a sincere smile. Overall, he gave out warmth, something quite rare considering their hostility, awkwardness, and other relationship problems for the past 2 years. "When you're with the right person, Ed Sheeran doesn't feel too vanilla anymore." He hummed along, hoping to pull a few heart strings. "Also, Wang, thank you." He referred to her ignoring her phone for him. He couldn't describe the amount of happiness and gratitude. The gesture touched him. Constantly being ignored made him sad. When Kiel asked for a break, he hoped she'd stop answering her calls and return to him. Instead, Daphne immersed herself so much in work that Kiel sought another way to gain her attention, which backfired. Now, for once, she chose him. It was never too late. Daphne would feel like Kiel had embraced her further, as he didn't want her to see him so weak for her attention. His tears bended and flicked away.
  • Daphne: aww moment kajshdinsd Daphne pats his back and rubs soothing circles as she further enjoys their dance. After the song has ended, she pulls away with her hands on his elbows. "Thank you" she smiles as she stops herself from telling him that this is the best dance she'll never forget. The thought of coming back to Taipei tomorrow seems a little to depressing
  • Kiel: When the song ended, luckily no one could notice any form of emotion of Kiel's face. He carried a smug face. "You're welcome. I'll take it that I'm the best dance partner you'll ever have." Their hands still remained intertwined. It was sad as well for Kiel to let Daphne go tomorrow. However, he knew he'd return in a while as well. Part of him wondered if he should bring up Leighton.
  • Daph: "Well, you're also the first so.." she shrugs with a bitter smile and just like that, the moment has to end. "Come on, let's go back. I'm ready to collapse on my extremely soft bed" she turns back towards the ball room, ready to be rid of these shoes as well.
  • Kiel: "First?" He secretly seemed happy about that. "I thought you'd probably been to other balls." Kiel doesn't complain that their hands are still together, pretending like it was natural. He then chuckled at her want to leave. "You're a girl that is never waived by a buffet table."
  • Daph: "Well, I have a graduation ball coming so I don't know if someone can beat your record yet" she shrugs before she turns back to him and immediately back towards the room as she sees the buffet "I didn't notice it" she said bashfully. She was too preoccupied with boys to notice the foods and she can't help but feel a little bit dumb. "Do you want to stay and eat?"
  • Kiel: He looked rather offended she considered someone else apart from him in her graduation ball. "You're considering someone else?" He smirked. His hand allowed her to feel his refusal to let her go. If it were her vice president, the son of Poseidon should consider drowning him first. "I do have a better idea." Suddenly, a picnic basket made out of water materalized in his other hand. "Take out."
  • Daphne: she blinks her eyes innocently as she never thought that Kiel would want to be her prom date before laughing nervously "I.. well" she coughs finding it hard to find composure with Kiel tightening his hold on her. God dammit heart, this is bad for you! she groans unconsciously "I thought you might be back to China once my graduation comes" Daphne avoids eye contact before Kiel suddenly had a picnic basket with him "Oh man, aren't you the best?" she revels at the thought of skipping lines in the buffet and being able to eat in peace somewhere else.
  • Kiel: "Doesn't mean I won't come back. It'll be an insult to have you replace me for someone else of lower grade." He scoffed. Kiel was quite proud of his idea. However, he gave the basket to the server and a good tip. "Tell him what you'd like."
  • Daph: she raises her eyebrows at him as if she can't believe his audacity. "Well, sure, if you really want to dance with me" she squares her shoulders before she turns her back to Kiel to talk to the server as she asks him to get food for himself as well
