Sometimes even to live is an act of courage.
She often holds most people in disdain and is rather practical, especially with the people she doesn't know. She'd rather leave people for dead than risk her own survival. This changes when you gain her trust. Before this, she is rather cut off and keeps people at arms length. Gaining her trust, she's fiercely loyal and protective. She'd throw a punch at anyone she believes is harming the people she loves before questioning their actions or who she's going up against. Her trust is hard to shake off, though, and she will believe the people in question until she is forced to believe otherwise.

Sophia was born to Nyx and Harrison Lockwood. The two met when he was climbing through an abyss. Surrounded by darkness, he only had a flickering torch to show him the way. Upon seeing him, Nyx played off as another traveller pretending to be lost. He paused and begun to talk with Nyx giving her directions and some extra rope when he reached her. He always kept with him some rope despite knowing he had more than enough. After hitting off, she agreed to go back to camp with him for the night. He offered with the belief that she most likely wouldn’t reach her own camp until the middle of the night. Back at camp, the two connected in even more ways. After this ‘meeting’, he revealed why he was so interested in places like the cavern. It kept away the monsters due to being able to see through the mist and found the caverns calming.

In the morning, Harrison found her gone. Confused, he was about to venture back to the cavern but one of the other people at camp advised him not to due to the lack of supplies. Accepting this, he ventured back to his hometown, still wondering about the strange woman who seemed rather understanding about his problems. He often travelled in and out of mental institutions throughout his childhood due to seeing through the mist, but had learned to keep it silent enough that the government believed he could leave.

Four months later, Sophia turned up on his door. As he already had a son, Carter, he was willing to raise her. His mental state was declining, though, and it was her older brother that Sophia came to look at as a parental figure. Carter was a son of Athena and had attended camp a few years ago. He fought off the monsters his father believed to have been stalking him. But they weren’t stalking Harrison but more Carter and Sophia.

Throughout her childhood, Carter had to hide Sophia in closets in belief that their father will kill, or seriously hurt her, in one of his episodes. He’d go around screaming at anything and everyone, grabbing whatever he can in belief it will protect him. Mor often than not, he imagined the monsters (only one in ten was an actual monster) and these episodes grew worse and worse as the years passed. There was also a certain cycle that had begun to occur. Whenever Harrison got really bad, Carter insisted he go to a mental institution where he was placed on heavy medication, but as soon as he got home, he despised the meds and constantly avoided taking them in knowing that they kept him from doing what he loved, so the cycle began to rotate once more. When she was eight, Carter insisted she have his watch and told her if she was in any danger, press the face.

Every summer, Carter, Sophia and their father traveled to the country, to spend time with their extended cousins. The cousins, who Sophia slowly began to realise was a cult who worshipped the Greek Gods, her uncle going by Samuel De Lightly. They kept on talking and talking about a witch that had helped them generations ago, wistfully believing that she's still out there. She didn't really believe them.

When she was twelve, she was walking home by herself due to Carter having going to sign their dad out of the hospital. She was taking a sidecut and walked through a lane behind a pub. A hellhound was sniffling through the trash before smelling Sophia. Noticing her, it didn’t hesitate to attack. Not knowing what else to do, she did what her brother told her and a sword appeared in her hand. In one of the hellhound’s attacks, she slashed the monster’s throat. Rushing home, she told her brother what had happened and he revealed to her the truth about who she is and that her family was right. To cheer her up, he took her out in his car he had been built from the scratch. They got dinner and went out onto an empty highway where it was dark. Sophia convinced him to let her sit on his lap and take the wheel as this was something they had done before. He covered her eyes and told her what direction they needed to go.

It was fine for ten minutes until a truck came out of nowhere. Carter only had the time to wrap his arms around Sophia when the car slammed into them. Carter died instantly and the broken glass had given Sophia some cuts and bruises but she survived.

Due to Carter’s death, her father’s condition got worse and soon he was abusing Sophia. On top of that, once or twice a year, some sort of monster attacked her. Before, the two demigods did cause a lot of monster appearances, but Carter had easily dispatched of them. But now, without Carter, Sophia had to fend for herself whenever she ventured outside. She didn’t have to worry much about them, though, due to her father covering up her stench in his mental state. But she still preferred to stay at home despite her father’s nature. Soon, it went too far and her father pushed her through the window believing her to be trying to kill him. The neighbors called emergency service and her father was taken away, leaving her arms permanently scarred.

After recovering, the government placed her in her uncle's guardianship and she leaped head first into the cult, taking what they said as gospel, but due to her distant upbringing, her cousins treated her like an alien and she began to plot a plan that would give her respect. She was going to track down this witch.

She joined a group of demigods, who were making their way to the camp and all was well until they stumbled into a cyclops cave. The monsters tricked them into separating and becoming more reckless in belief the others were already dead (done by the monster imitating their voices) and soon, all of the other demigods, except Sophia, was eaten.

Using their distraction with the others a chance to escape, she shadow travelled away knowing there was no way to save her peers. For a week, she was by herself, nearly succumbing to the idea that monsters were going to pick her off and be karma for leaving the others behind. After escaping, Sophia made way to the nearest city and for a while she just wandered around. It was really by chance that she stumbled into a satyr near central park. Quickly understanding what she was, the Satyr lead her to camp.

On the hill of chb, they were attacked by four empousa’s. With the help of other campers, they were able to defeat them except Brooklyn was killed during the fight. Not knowing what to do, she knelt beside Brooklyn whilst Charlie convinced Valerie to try and bring her back. Valerie succeeded and they went to camp.

Children of Nyx have the ability to conjure weapon out of pure shadows which can be used for combat; however, only one weapon can be conjured at a time and it cannot be bigger than the one who conjured it. This can also be used for other non-combative objects, but within reason, something might be shaped like an iPod, but as shadows do not have any working parts and source of electricity, such as batteries, they would not actually play music.
  2. Children of Nyx can create solid bullets out of shadows and fire them from their fingertips. The bullets fly fast enough to possibly tear into an opponent’s skin.

  1. Children of Nyx have the ability to Shadow Travel,to teleport from shadow to shadow; the further the distance, the more is energy drained.
  2. Children of Nyx can bend shadows around them, concealing them for a short time.
  3. Children of Nyx are able to create complete darkness in a small area for a short time, extinguishing all light sources. They can also perform this power to a lighter extent, by putting out a single light bulb or candle with a thought.
  4. Children of Nyx can telekinetically move and transform their shadow constructs. The more constructs moved and the bigger they are, the more energy is drained.
  5. Children of Nyx have the ability to create intangible stars, which will light an area for a short time.

3 Months After Character is Made

  1. Children of Nyx can cause true night in an area for a short time, blocking sunlight over a battlefield. Their passive boosts and the abilities of other demigods are affected accordingly. This effect lasts for at most a minute before fading back, and can only be used once a day. They can also create a pair of shadow wings to fly with (which drains less energy than shadow travel).

6 Months After Character is Made

  1. Children of Nyx are able to create up to seven nocturnal animals, no larger than their normal sizes, to serve them for a short time. While the animals are summoned the user is slower, and they are drained whenever one of the animals is harmed or when the animals are released.

9 Months After Character is Made

  1. Children of Nyx have the ability to shed their flesh and turn into a state of pure night. While in this state, the user is granted flight and their existing abilities become stronger. They are intangible in this state and anyone they touch has their vision stripped away for the rest of the transformation; however, once the user changes back they will be extremely drained and immobile for a long time. They would possibly pass out.
