I couldn't tell you just how this all began, as a lot of it has to do with what happened before my birth. I can only tell you what my father explain to me as a child, and I cannot think he would lie to me about what happened.
My father, Gabriel, was around twenty-five when he began to grow distant from his family. He was studying to become a historian, and was attending his University full time. He had his whole life ahead of him, but then he had a fight with his parents. He never told me what it was about, but he did tell me it ended with him being 'cut off' from the family. His siblings were sympathetic, but they were all still living with their parents, so remained silent and stopped talking to him as well.
He then changed his schedule to include a job and still have enough time to get his degree. He was still doing well, despite the little bump in the road. However, the real trouble came when he met my mother. They quickly fell in love, but eventually my mother had to reveal her true identity, the goddess Hecate. She then left my father, broken-hearted. He came to accept it, but did not realize what would soon follow.
About nine months later, my mother left a baby, me, with my father and told him that it was theirs. Again she left him, but at first he was happy. He had a son, a baby boy! But, he soon got over that and realized that he would have to care for me. He didn't have the money to support the both of us, and he was still a few months away from getting his degree. He was forced to drop out and turned to his family, but his parents just turned us away.
I don't remember everything clearly, but this is roughly how things went. After his family turned us away, my father almost decided to put me up for adoption for my sake, but decided that he couldn't let me go. He lost his job due to the poor economy, and struggled to take care of the two of us.
Eventually, when I was around one years old, my father finally found work on a farm in the countryside of Greece. The owner took us in, and even gave us a little home (it was more of a shack). The owner and his wife were very kind to us, and later on treated me as if I was their grandchild as well.
The farm grew to be pretty successful later on, and my father was able to afford school books to help educate me. He wanted to make sure that I had the best education I could, and taught me the equivalent of high school level material. When I was old enough I also helped on the farm. Life seemed to get better and my father was finally able to breathe.
There were some pretty big bumps in the road, though. We didn't know it then, but monsters had attempted to kill me numerous times. I remember one time; my father had gone out to feed the livestock and I was inside, studying. What appeared to be a serpent attacked me, and nearly bite me. Luckily, I was able to get up and run out before it could, and it seemed to disappear. After a couple of instances like this, my father grew fearful and decided the farm was not safe enough.
Hecate then visited my father privately while I was asleep. He recommended that he take me to Camp Half-blood, a camp for other children like me. She assured that I would be safe and be would not need to worry. There was a problem, though. It would take him months to make enough money to fly us both over, and he did not want to wait. So, we went to visit his younger sister, Ruth. Ruth had had a pretty successful life after she left home. She married, and her husband is apparently a doctor.
I remember it clearly, the look on her face. She nearly broke down in tears when she opened the door. She begged my father for forgiveness, which he readily gave her. She gave us the money for the plane ride, and gave me some new clothes and books to keep me entertained. We left Greece for the U.S the next day.
