It was a rainy day in Woodbridge, Virginia. It was a gloomy day, and Tammy Cardwick had absolutely nothing to do, and as she just go a job as a teacher, she decided it would be best to go wonder around the school she would soon be working at. As she went into the library and picked up a book about chemistry, the school librarian, who was Athena is disguise, approached Tammy. As the two began talking, Athena was amazed at how intelligent Tammy was, and told her that being a teacher would bring her down. Tammy, eventually took the advice and became a scientist. A few months had passed, and when Tammy was walking home late one night from the lab, she bumped into Athena. She was pushing a stroller, and looked confused. When Tammy asked her what was wrong, she was in awe at first, but eventually spoke. Athena explained that she was a goddesses and that she doesn't have sex to have a child, instead it is through some sort of mental connection. She then went on to explain that Tammy and her had a mental connection somehow, and when everything was fully explained, Tammy happily took the child from Athena, and welcomed him into her home. Later that night, she decided to name the child Hayden.
Not long after Tammy received Hayden, she met a young man who was a newcomer to the lab she worked in. The two eventually became very close, and within a year, got married, with little Hayden being the best man. Hayden grew as the family got bigger, with Tammy becoming pregnant, she soon gave birth to a little baby boy named Miles when Hayden was five. When Hayden turned seven, the family went on a small cruise. All the dazzling lights and amazing sights amazed Hayden. But the thing that touched him the most were the dancers, who ever night put on a show, not for money, but because they loved to dance. Hayden knew from then on that he would want to be a dancer as well. However Tammy and Anthony didn't approve of this wish, they would have rather him become a scientist just like themselves. They kept pushing Hayden to do his best in school, but he just didn't understand. Tammy knowing his mother was Athena, the goddess of wisdom, expected more from him.
On the day of Hayden's twelfth birthday, when he was walking home from the mall with a friend, he began to part ways with his friend when a hellhound leaped out of a bush and attacked him. As it began biting the air above Hayden's face trying to reach him, Hayden knew he was in trouble unless he could figure out away to escape. He looked over and saw an open manhole. Hayden managing to figure out a plan quickly flipped the hellhound off of him, sending it tumbling into the manhole. When he got home, he decided to tell Tammy what happened, she believed him as she knew monsters would soon be coming after him from information Athena told her, she went up into her room and pulled out a box from under the bed. When Hayden opened the box it revealed the family crest, however there was a small button on the back, and when it was pressed, it would change into a short sword. He thanked his mother, but as he didn't know how to use it, was uneasy about the fact he was given a sword.
Later that night when Tammy was sitting in the kitchen with everyone else asleep, she was unsure what to do about her son, she knew he wasn't safe to keep him home, but she also didn't know where she could send him. In the mists of thinking over what she could do, someone broke into the house, and with Tammy sitting in the kitchen, she heard the noise and decided to run upstairs to protect her children. She quickly instructed Hayden to take Miles up into the attic and stay there until she came and got them. As Hayden followed his mother's orders and ran for the attic, the man who broke into the house, killed Tammy, and soon went to target Anthony. With Anthony, not being home at the time due to working late, he came home to see the front window smashed, he quickly ran up to the second level of the house and saw his wife's dead body. When the killer turned to face Anthony, he quickly pulled out a knife and stabbed the man repeatedly. He then set his sights on trying to find Hayden and Miles, as they slowly crept out of the shadows of the attic. They ran for the comfort of Anthony. Anthony, deciding the neighborhood they lived in was unsafe, decided to move. They moved to the furthest place Anthony could think of, Hawaii.
After two years of the three men settling into Hawaii, Anthony became a manager of a resort. But Hayden wasn't happy with it, being a moody teen, Hayden grew apart from his family. With more monster attacks occurring in the past two years than he expected, Hayden wanted to leave the protection of Anthony. But wasn't of age to live by himself, and with all his known relatives dead, he had no choice but to stay with Anthony. While walking around the resort, a Cyclops appeared from behind a bar, Hayden ran for his life, but was eventually knocked out by a club thrown at him by the Cyclops. When he woke up, he was in a cave. Presumably miles away from the resort. He was tied to a pole, and had no way of escaping. Until he remembered about the family crest, he pulled it out from his pocket and it turned into a short sword, he slowly began cutting the ropes with the blade, and when he was free, his past monster attacks experiences kicked in and he was able to figure out a way to defeat the Cyclops, with some quiet steps, he managed to sneak up behind the Cyclops when it was cutting up a wild boar, and slashed it in the back with his sword, eventually the monster evaporated, and Hayden ran out of the cave.
With fourteen year old Hayden walking around the jungle by himself, he couldn't find his way back to the resort. With the little survival skills he needed to survive, he put them to good use by making a shelter and a fire. Managing to scavenge for food, he survived for a week until a search time Anthony sent out managed to find him. Anthony slowly started accepting that Hayden would never be the scientist he had dreamed he would be, and slowly started supporting him in his dance career. When the opportunity presented itself, Anthony and Hayden flew to California just so Hayden could audition to get into a performing arts high school. He was eventually accepted into the school, but that meant having to stay in California and have to start over yet again. He eventually decided to stay at the school, only because it was a boarding school. After many shows he performed, and many monster attacks, he eventually made it to the day of his sixteenth birthday, in which a satyr had found him and told him about Camp Half-Blood.
Later that night, the satyr managed to talk Hayden into going to the camp, and they left right away. As it was a fairly long drive from California to New York, the satyr asked Hayden if he could fly a helicopter, Hayden uneasy about what the satyr had in mind, said yes and eventually they were flying in a stolen helicopter to camp. When they reached the border of camp, Hayden proudly walked in, and was claimed by Athena.
