Valerie Fairchild
Child of Hecate

With a dark and troubled past, Valerie Lancaster is to say the least, a Mystery.

Valerie's birth was a strange one, to say the least. Not only did she die in her mother's womb but, her mother so happened to be Asteria, a Greek Goddess. Who ever heard of a goddess having a miscarry and for only one of her children? Oh? Did i not mention that Valerie wasn't though only one in the Goddess' womb? Well, she wasn't... She also had a twin sister who so happened to thrive and make it into the land of the living. Valerie made it there too but, the events leading up to it were a bit different, let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Sirius Belfrey was the name of Valerie's mortal parent though, she'd never hear the name in here life - considering she was never given to him. Another thing she'd never know is how her true mother, Asteria and he had met. It was a short affair... and a forbidden one at that. She was an astronomy professor and he her student and from there i'm pretty sure you can guess the rest. They fell in love or, maybe it was just something out of lust. Either way, things furthered and one day the duo got caught. Naturally Asteria got fired, though i doubt she even cared, and Sirius got expelled. Whereas Asteria was able to move on from the incident, considering her godly status, Sirius had a bit more of a struggle and also wasn't too happy when the reason for his expulsion had disappeared. What else was she to do though? Now, the goddess Asteria was pregnant and with twins as a matter of fact. Sirius had just gotten expelled and from what Asteria could tell, he had no steady income. She didn't want to scare the living hell out of him.

Like any normal goddess, Asteria went back to Olympus, ready to carry her children to term. She was quiet happy and hoped that when the time came, Sirius would be ready to care for them. However, something strange happened about a few weeks into her pregnancy. One of her children died in the womb? Some would argue that it wasn't even possible. How could a goddess lose one of her children? She was a dam goddess. Regardless of any arguments, Asteria had lost one of her children and was devastated, what mother wouldn't be? What else could she do? Even if the child wasn't born would it be considered direct interference if she brought it back to life? She couldn't take the risk, with Zeus already being angry with the other out of control god/goddess'. That's why, even though the child wouldn't be considered hers anymore, she went to her daughter Hecate. It was there that she asked her daughter to take the soul of the deceased child and put it into her own womb, carrying it the rest of term and giving birth to the child. It was the only thing Asteria could think of and as it was a favor asked from her mother, Hecate agreed - she'd carry the child for the remainder of the term and give birth to her, giving birth to it on the same day and time Asteria gave birth to her other daughter Victoire.

Now, as some might assume, Hecate would hand over the child to her mother and that was that. Asteria would then deliver both children to Sirius and from there he'd have to take care of them however, like any women would - Hecate grew attached to the life living inside of her. When it came time to deliver the children, She couldn't bare to hand over her child to a man she didn't know - especially a man who seemed to have no steady income as of late. How would he be able to care for two children? Asteria of course, saw this coming and since Hecate was kind enough to give the child a chance at life, Asteria decided to let Hecate do what she wanted with the child - who's name was Valerie. Hecate, of course decided it would be best to only give Sirius one of the twins which of course was Victoire and Valerie... well she was given to someone who Hecate though would give her a good life. Little did Hecate know that Circe, who she had given Valerie too, would cause her daughter more pain then anyone else.

Not many demigods can say that they grew up with a goddess, nor can they say that they were trained by the goddess themselves. Valerie is one of those few and in the beginning it was quite the life style. While Circe might not have had her resort and spa anymore she did have another island where she stay and just like before, there was an abundant of girls roaming about the island. Some where demigod and some mortals, some were even nymphs and they all lived on the island with Circe. She was the one they truly worship as she had saved them all from horrid lives. some even sought her out in hope to start a new life. For Valerie though, it was decided she'd live on the island with Circe and train with the goddess in many aspects.

Years passed since her birth and like any normal child, Valerie grew and grew - learning the usual schooling subject from other women on the island, even attending classes each day. She played and learned the basic of spell casting, even if she couldn't cast any spells herself and of course, she learned of her mother and her heritage from the Greek gods. Some might say it was dangerous for her to know at such a young age but, with the protection of a goddess what could go wrong? For the time being, Valerie's life was good - great even. Even when she grew into her teenage years and was attacked for the first time, though the attack was orchestrated by her trainers.

It was when she was 13 and by this point Valerie had already began to proper in her abilities. She had been studying on them since she was a small girl after all and because of this, Circe thought she was ready. A hellhound was her opponent and a smaller one at that, a full grown one would have been much to dangerous.

  1. Children of Hecate are able to create a protective dome of magical energy around them for a short time.
  2. Children of Hecate are able to become ethereal in form for a short time, which temporarily causes all attacks to go through them. In this state, they cannot attack an opponent and if they do their ethereal state will dissipate instantly.

  2. Children of Hecate are innately stronger at night.
  3. Children of Hecate are able to communicate with the dead to gather information.
  4. Children of Hecate are adept at making potions and elixirs, however potions used in battle cannot be overly powerful or altering to the events of the battle. Potions that can automatically heal all wounds or restore all energy are examples of over-powered potions. Only descendants of Hecate/Circe and Lampades can create potions. Overconsumption of potions can result in overdose symptoms and some potions could have side-effects or not work at all.

  1. Children of Hecate can conjure spells to teleport themselves and allies. The further the distance, the more energy drained.

3 Months After a Character is Made

  1. Children of Hecate are able to control the Mist around them, allowing them to create optical illusions that can fool even demigods. The illusions can confuse enemies with false memories, alter the appearance of the user or their allies, change the appearance of items or weapons or even alter the appearance of the environment to an extent. Changes to the Mist only last for a short time, mist control is less draining than custom spells. (6 month)

6 Months After a Character is Made

  1. Children of Hecate have the ability to create new spells, whether they were trained, self-taught or devised the spell on the fly. The spells can be minor, such as locating, summoning animals, divination or controlling emotions. Or they can be more advanced and powerful such as controlling the elements, pure magical energy, necromancy, curses and summoning monsters or magical guardians. Spells cannot be overly powerful or controlling. The more complex and powerful the spell, the more energy it drains from the user.

9 Months After a Character is Made

  1. Children of Hecate have the ability to focus all their magical abilities into transforming themselves into any living being, or even a being of their own imagination. This power is, in essence, the ability to shapeshift into anything the user can imagine. The user can transform into another human, an animal, a monster, or anything in between. The transformation can last as long as the user wishes it to, but the longer they hold their form the more it drains them. They cannot cast any spells while the transformation is in place and they cannot transform into anything overly powerful. (Like a rabbit that can make people’s heads explode with a thought. ) The form they shift into cannot be larger than 2 to 3 times the human size of the user, and after the user resumes their regular form they are severely drained. Unable to move from exhaustion and they could possibly faint. This power can only be used once in a fight.

  1. Children of Hecate typically love the magical arts, many of them are known for writing spellbooks. Her children have created/re-introduced and improved spells and techniques all over history.
  2. Necromancy is commonly a favored magical art among children of Hecate.
  3. Children of Hecate are known for being quite mysterious.
  4. Children of Hecate are often more active and exhibit better moods at night and in dark environments.
  5. Children of Hecate wield innate knowledge and understanding of the Mist.
