In the past, we have had issues because the behavioral expectations we have for staff are not currently clearly defined in our Wikia's policy. I am proposing that we add an official code of conduct that all members of the admin team must review & follow. This was created with the intention of securing the Wiki as a safe place for all users and to officially establish what our community expects from our staff. Upon approval, the following will be added into CHBRP Wikia's official policy:

Proposed Code of Conduct

As members of the CHBRPW Admin Team, it’s important that we exhibit professionalism and understand that we are given positions of power which must be used as ethically as possible and with the community’s best interests at mind. By agreeing to become a member of the Admin Team, you will be expected to abide by these seven guidelines:


  1. Members of the Admin Team are expected to know and follow the previously agreed on behavioural policies at all times. Failure to do so will be met with reprimands and possible demotion if the offence is major enough.

  2. Members of the Admin Team are expected to refrain from using their additional powers for personal gain. Additional powers are given with the expectation that the staff will use them fairly and responsibly.

  3. Members of the Admin Team must acknowledge that conflict is inevitable in such a varied group of people. However, it is their responsibility to become leaders of the community and respond to said conflict - trying to minimise any hurt or offence that may have occurred.

  4. It is the responsibility of members of the Admin Team to create a safe and fun environment for all users - ensuring all users are treated with respect while also still enjoying the freedom of roleplay.

  5. Members of the Admin Team should avoid creating conflict on Camp-Half Blood Roleplay Wikia's Discord server and attempt to remain empathetic and professional when discussing sensitive issues (e.g. politics, religion, mental health).

  6. Members of the admin team should use discretion when dealing with sensitive matters discussed in the private admin server.  Members of the admin team should avoid sharing information that compromises user's privacy, creates unnecessary conflict, or spoils future wiki projects that require discretion.

  7. Members of the Admin Team must acknowledge that any serious violation of the above guidelines may be met with disciplinary action, just like any regular user. These sanctions are, but not limited to: Verbal Warnings, Demotion votes, Bans, Time-outs or anything else deemed necessary by the department heads.

I'm glad to see this reach vote. Personally though, I'm concerned about the sixth point. Blanket censorship on the staff server seems to be counter-intuitive to the goals of transparency and accountability, and would make it very difficult to tackle problems brought up in that server publicly.

I agree that matters in the staff server often call for privacy, and spreading information prematurely can cause issues. We had a recent example of this during the self-FC situation. However, I don't think making it a demotable offence to bring up topics from the staff server whatsoever is a reasonable approach. It's a sledgehammer solution to a scalpel problem.

Most of the tenets of this code of conduct deal with reasonable expectations rather than hard blanket rules ("remain empathetic and professional", "refrain from using their additional powers for personal gain", etc). I think this should follow suit - something like "Members of the admin team should use discretion when dealing with sensitive matters discussed in the private admin server, and avoid sharing information that may compromise users' privacy."

But if you can fool them, even for a second...  The world is simple, miserable, solid all the way through.
