Hello everyone! This vote has been one that has been a long time coming. For a few years now the topic of giving the Broken Covenant a revamp has circulated around, met with various reactions. This vote is very simple and does not require much of a discussion as it aims to find out what direction the wiki would like to go in regards to this. Discussions with individual users can come at a later time following the outcome of this vote.

For those who don't know, the Broken Covenant is an anti-God organisation comprised of various factions, each with their own goal on what to replace Olympus with. Whilst some are more democratic, others are more destructive. The Broken Covenant has been a part of the wiki near enough since it's conception with few of us remaining to see it's creation. From my own understanding, it has gone through various stages in it's life as to the function it serves. Until the conception of New Athens, a primary use of it had been a place to send non-cabin demigods. Following the Champions of Othrys expansion, the BC is currently without a main overall leader and lieutenants, something that had been done to allow a fresh slate to occur more naturally IC should we desire one.

The implementation of any changes, how far they go and what they are will be discussed at later dates. This is just to see what the wiki would like moving forward so R&D and the admin team can move forward.

There are three options below. Please vote on which one you deem to be the most appropriate.

  • Option One: The Broken Covenant should have an extensive revamp. Whilst the fundamental core beliefs shall stay the same (the anti-God narrative and the use of factions to separate the direction of these narratives), the BC should be heavily redone and made into something that is new with some familiar elements. This would include an entire restructure of the BC's power hierarchy, it's factions and the criterion for members joining. In effect, we'd be creating an entire new Broken Covenant.
  • Option Two: The Broken Covenant should have a minimal revamp. This would include shuffling and perhaps merging some of the factions to make it more streamlined. This version of the BC would remain mostly the same with some modern touch ups. Most factions would stay the same (albeit some could be amalgamated into one) and the structure of power could be reconsidered.
  • Option Three: The Broken Covenant will not have a revamp. It is fine the way it is and will benefit only from having the vacant positions filled.

As this is a miscellaneous vote with R&D elements, it will remain up for a week, closing on 8 March 2021 at midnight EST.

The BC's particular weakness to low activity spells has less to do with its power structures and ideological variety - its main draws in terms of unique rp potential compared to CoO - and more to do with how we handle it OOC, in my opinion. So from an IC perspective I'd rather keep changes minimal. A heavy IC revamp would be overkill without getting to the heart of the problem. Like, for a setting that offers a strong framework for ambition and change, it's way too prone to stagnation and and adherence to status quo. That's what we ought to tackle moreso than the faction system's structure itself, which actually proved super appealing when it was first conceived years ago. We had backstabbery, intriguing missions, edgy conflicts, the rise and fall of different factions like Vardia and Liberatio, all because the faction system encouraged people to flesh out their characters' ambitions, and offered an environment to put them into practice. I think we should just explore ways to make our current system more sustainable with fewer people, while preserving its current IC nuances.

But if you can fool them, even for a second...  The world is simple, miserable, solid all the way through.

Gotta agree with tox, its more users than the BC itself. It's a mix of both old users and newer users. It has been over a year since we got a BC claim, according to my research which I think we need to change. We should be making sure newer users know about the BC so it gets more action, and I just know when we got more BC characters, it'll be like the good old spicy cough, the desire to make BC chars will spread.
