Hello everyone, Nata here! After some discussion in chat today, here is the vote on whether or not Elpis (the daimona of hope) is eligible to be a godly parent. If you have any arguments against or for Elpis that are not listed below, please leave them in the comments section and I'll add them to the list!
Arguments Against Elpis:
- In Greek mythology, Elpis was trapped in Pandora's Box along with many other spirits, all of them negative (e.g.: disease, murder, betrayal, etc.). When Pandora opened the box, she released all of the evil spirits into the world, but Elpis remained, signifying that no matter how terrible the world became, hope would remain with humanity. Whether she willingly stays in the box or is forcibly trapped in the box remains up for debate, but the general consensus is that she's still inside of the box and would thus be unable to have children with mortals.
- In the PJO books, Prometheus offered Percy Pandora's pithos (jar) with Elpis inside of it. He instructed Percy to open the pithos when he was ready to surrender to Kronos, indicating that he had given up hope. Percy does not open the pithos and ends up offering it to Hestia at the end of the series. This implies that Elpis remains with Hestia and does not roam the world freely, making her unable to have children with mortals.
Arguments For Elpis:
- Although both mythology and PJO canon establish that Elpis remains inside Pandora's Box/pithos, there's a gray area on whether or not she is capable of leaving the box of her own accord. If she is able to leave the box of her own free will, it would not signify humanity giving up hope, but rather that hope is free to travel the world for stretches of time before returning to her container. All of the negative spirits only entered the human world when they left the box, so it seems counterintuitive that Elpis can only remain with the human world if she doesn't leave the box.
- Alternatively, if Elpis is not able to leave the box of her own free will, there's a gray area on whether or not others can briefly release her for special purposes before she must return to the box. The CHBRP Wiki canon already features a quest, Archived:The Quest to Find Nike, in which the quest-goers temporarily release Elpis to weaken Moros (the daimon of doom) as part of their mission.
- A child of Elpis, Hope, already exists on the wiki. Although he is a flower spirit and not a demigod, his history implies that Elpis is not continuously trapped within the box, but rather that she is capable of traveling to mortals who need hope the most.
Summary:
This vote boils down to whether we follow only what the PJO books and Greek mythology have explicitly stated (Against) or whether we interpret them with some leeway and follow what the CHBRP wiki canon has stated (For). If the wiki decides Against, we'll retcon the existing examples of Elpis being a godly parent, and if the wiki decides For, we'll create a powerset for her children. Once again, please leave any questions or suggestions in the comments below!

Several sources (i will link in a moment) seem to accept a certain myth which suggests that Pheme is a (immortal) child of Elpis. If we choose to accept that... it could mean Elpis could have had kids at one point in time.
